Rate this book
Being in the wrong place at the wrong time can end your life - or worse, postpone it indefinitely. In Aspen Grove, Oklahoma, fifteen-year-old Katy has everything going for her, until an innocent decision to walk home from school sets the karmic wheels in motion. Katy suffers a brutal attack, leaving her comatose. The legal system failed to convict the men responsible for this heinous crime, instead found them not guilty. They’ve gotten away with it, or so it seems. Now, several years later, bad things begin happening to them one by one. Accident, coincidence, or payback?

Excellent! The main theme of The Boomerang Effect is Karma, of which, I am a big fan. Although, less so of how long it takes Karma it hit the people that really deserve it. Probably because it spends its time following me around.

But that's the thing, isn't it? Exactly who does deserve to get hit by Karma and who gets to make that call? This book will challenge your beliefs about that and I love a story that can do that. Without spoiling too many details, two men are responsible for a vicious attack on a teenage girl which leaves her in a coma while the actions of others prevent these men from being brought to justice. A mystery person is now taking revenge on all of them plus several other seemingly innocent citizens, but who all have something to hide.

But does this person have the right to play God? To an extent, I would say yes. After all, we humans create the laws we live by so we need to take responsibility and enforce them. All too often, ridiculous rules and loopholes get in the way of true justice. It was fun to imagine myself in the mystery person's roll - taking it to the criminals when the police can't do anything. It makes the person seem like a hero. On the other hand, I don't think some of the people the mystery person took revenge on truly deserved it. At least, not to the extent shown in the book. The ending was fitting, if not exactly happy, showing that no one is immune to the effects of Karma.

This was a fascinating read. The rapid jumps between P.O.V. might seem confusing to some, but I think it keeps the pace quick and keeps me that much more interested to see what's going to happen next. I'm wondering if a sequel is in the works, because I think the potential is there. Very well done.

Wow. Just wow. I’m speechless at the moment.

With this novel, Spencer takes the realities of life, those we don’t want to face, and bring them to life in a very insightful and hard hitting manner. She tackles these topics with tack and flare, working her storytelling magic to create scenes and events that you live through with the characters. She also melds karma with reality to create a much more in depth storyline.

Spencer has created lots of characters with overlapping and intertwining stories that combine to create a captivating whole that flows like real life. These stories are intricately melded together to form a phenomenal whole. As a reader, you become very emotionally invested in this story. Spencer uses flashbacks to keep you in the loop while still keeping you intrigued in the story. These flashbacks, as well as flips to other perspectives are set aside and kept clear via formatting. They also add a great deal of mystery and depth to the story.

As a reader you get to know the main characters of this novel quite well. They are the type of people that you want to know, and help, and love. Overall, however, character development is not a major part of this story, but it works very well with the storyline. Many of the characters remain mysterious and partially developed. This minimalistic trend in character development actually works to the benefit of the story as a whole as it adds to the mystique of karmic interactions.

This is not a light fluffy read, but it is brilliant none the less. It is eloquently written and very well edited. Above all, this is a novel that will impact your life and leave you thinking.

Please note that I received this novel free of charge from the author in exchange for an honest review.

The Boomerang Effect by Lindy Spencer was nothing short of sheer brilliance! A story that goes in depth about how karma could really bite you on the bottom.

It starts with Katy, a little girl who happened to show up at the wrong place, at the wrong time. For that she suffers unjustly and the ball begins to roll. This book seamlessly flows from third person to first, switching multiple points of view for a completely mind shattering effect! In a short period of time Lindy Spencer gives her wide cast of characters life and captivates you with each of their stories. She breathes depth and detail into every person you meet, painting a scene you're not likely to forget, and take you on a wild ride!

The plot was amazing; every time you thought you knew where things were going, you were proven wrong on the next page or so. The very idea of it is refreshingly new; I doubt I could compare this to any book I've read before. The execution could not have been better.
The formatting? Of course it was perfect, just as the cover art and every second you spend inside her world.
I didn't notice any typos and would not hesitate to spend $6.99 on book two- if there will be one. I really hope so, the boomerang effect could happen to anyone.

I seriously recommend this book to anyone interested in mystery and suspense- or just another fantastic read!

The Boomerang Effect by Lindy Spencer is a mind bending exploration of what can happen when Karma and vigilante justice collide.

It’s rare that people think about the ways in which their lives are interwoven with complete strangers and casual acquaintances, but Ms. Spencer brings this intricacy of everyday life and its consequences into the forefront of the reader’s mind. She is able to craft characters in such a way that the reader feels genuine emotion toward each one and is pulled completely into their world.

The perspective jumps around a lot to ensure that each character’s story is told in a manner that allows the reader to understand how they connect to each other, so I will caution readers to make sure they pay attention. However, I do not feel the changes in perspective were excessive or distracting. In fact, I felt this format added to the storyline as a whole.

If you’re a fan of mysteries, thrillers, or books that get into your head, you need to pick up a copy of The Boomerang Effect by Lindy Spencer. However, be warned… It may have you thinking about the connections you’ve made and the kind of Karma that may be making its way back to you…

Fans of mysteries and thrillers will love The Boomerang Effect by Lindy Spencer.

This book is pretty hard hitting as much as it is mind blowing. I was left spinning at the author's ability to create and unravel the creative and thoroughly absorbing storyline.

The characters are crafted to the nth, really allowing the reader to bond, relate and get caught up with the drama unfolding. The Boomerang Effect is a highly emotive read and barely left me room to recover before the story unravelled a little more.

There were times that I needed to reread sections - my own fault as I wasn't paying full attention. But this is not a light-hearted read; it will require your full concentration to fully absorb the powerful and original storyline.

It's been a while since I was left truly thinking and mulling over a book. The Boomerang Effect certainly does this! An impressive read.

Lindy Spencer is a seriously talented lady. She crafts stories like an origami master creates a dove.

The story starts out with a hard hitting, stomach wrenching plot. A little girl, Katie, attacked and comatose. I honestly had to stop reading after this first scene, as I have children myself and found it a little too close to home.

Finally moving on with the story I found myself becoming more gleeful with every skilled death and karma induced incident. Perhaps it was the mother in me, or perhaps the horror writer that I am, either way I was shocked by my obvious acceptance of each event and glad that the characters got what was deserving of them.

Lindy is massively skillful in sucking these emotions out of me, both happy and sad, and probably a little twisted, and her tension building is second to none.

Well having read this book I now know that karma is always there with everyone it was a bit confusing to start off with as it kept switching from one person to the next person but having got into this brilliant read I understood it I couldn't put it down.

I don't want to give anything away as it will spoil the story

But there is a teenage girl who has the rest of Her life ahead of her after saying that she wanted to walk home instead of getting a lift of her best friends mum anyway walking home two men attacked her and she goes into a coma.

Will there be justice for her or will the men get off or will be revenge is sweet and will she come round.

I am giving this book 4/5. Excellent read

Are you tired of books with two or three lead characters?

Tired of predictable endings?

Tired of chapters that seem to drag on and on while you're waiting to get to "the good part?"

Tired of superficial fluffy stories about cookie cutter characters?

Then read THIS BOOK!

Seriously, I had no idea what to suspect with this book, it was referred to me by a friend. I loved the twists and turns. Loved wondering where things were going, and didn't guess the ending until RIGHT BEFORE the end and it leaves you with that sense of satisfaction of a really good book. I had a hard time putting it down and enjoyed every page!!!

after hearing alot about this book I finally broke down an bought it off of Amazon. As soon as I began reading it I knew it was gonna be a long nite. It had me hooked right from the start. with all the characters she introduces I thought it would be hard to follow but she did an amazing job on keeping them separate yet intertwined so my interest in each stayed focused. Tom an Andy (Andrea) are the main characters both being centered around Katy...the stories that surround these 3 are intense an suspenseful. I was on my the edge of seat waiting to see what happened next had to keep turning the pages. I highly recommend this book but be prepared...once you start it you just cant put it down.

When I started this book I thought the introduction to so many characters would be confusing but as the story goes on the way Lindy Spencer intertwines the characters makes transitioning from one characters story line to other seem seamless. I love a good suspense novel, a book that keeps you guessing from the start. I got both of those things with this book. Each character had depth and added something to the build up. The ending definitely will have you saying I didn't see that coming! A little karma sometimes isn't such a bad thing. Great suspenseful read! Should be added to the TBR for sure.

"The Boomerang Effect" is a good book, and an excellent first effort, for author Lindy Spencer. The opening grabs the reader's attention and hovers throughout the story. Though the well developed characters can be a bit confusing in the beginning, they are brought together as the novel progresses, drawing the reader into the story, in anticipation of the next chapter. There are some slow moving areas, within the tale, and that coupled with my initial confusion kept the fifth star from this review. I can, however, recommend "The Boomerang Effect" for anyone who enjoys a well written story, with an ending that is as unexpected as it is satisfying.

This was the first book I read on my new ereader, and it was one I've wanted to read for awhile. I've heard good things about it from friends and I couldn't wait to dive right in and read it.

It's a great book, especially considering it's Lindy's first book. Recently, I published Lindy in an anthology I put out, and honestly? This woman has talent.

Would highly recommend this book to those looking for a crime/ thriller/suspense book, especially if you're looking for something a bit different.

The Boomerang Effect by Lindy Spencer was a fantastic read! I didn't know what to expect and I hadn't read any of the reviews before opening it. At first I was confused because I there are quite a few characters, but it's actually very important to the plot line. Every character connects back to a girl in a coma. I won't give anything away, but this story is about karma and how it can bite you in the butt. The ending was a complete surprise, which I loved. I'll definitely be reading more from this author.

The Boomerang Effect is an excellent book. It takes a different start than the usual crime/mystery genre book. The characters are lively and as you travel down the road you start to question whether or not they really did deserve what happened to them. The big reveal is great and leaves you guessing about the person behind the screen and then as they start to get away with it, you're surprised as they get their comeuppance. I highly recommend this book and look forward to the sequel promised by the author!

Loved it. Mysteries are either hit and miss with me. Either I figure them out way to early and it ruins it, or it keeps you turning pages. This one keeps you turning pages. I love stories that have never slow down, and this one doesn’t. There are a lot of characters to keep up with at first but it doesn't deter from the story. In fact, for me at least, it kept me enthralled. Definitely worth the read.

The Boomerang Effect is a Fast pace crime drama that will have you biting your nails and stumped to the very end of the book. It was refreshing to come across a story that not only had me up till I read every last word in one sitting but left me guessing the whole time. It was unpredictable and there was vindication watching Karma bite back a couple of people. The Character developments in this story were on point and I highly recommend this thrilling novel.

They say Karma is a Bitch - The Boomerang Effect shows just how much of a bitch it can be.

I have to admit, I found it a little difficult at first to keep up with who was who. However it really didn't take long to keep the characters straight in my head.

I loved the idea behind the Boomerang plot and it was well laid out.

The ending surprised me and the whole story, in my opinion, was very well written.

Well done Lindy, hope to read more books from yerself :)

Great read! I was drawn in within reading the first few pages.

At first, I had a hard time keeping the characters of the story straight, but I stuck with it and everything made sense.

Nice twist at the end.

My only "Gripe" is that the book ended with some things unresolved.

The author definitely leaves you wanting more!

This book wove so many lives together and it was truly captivating as you read on to see how each character would fit into the book. The inventor of the "Boomerang Effect" took me by surprise and really added huge dimensions to the characters and the plot. It was a tragic and kind of sad tale but that is what one should expect from a murder mystery. All in all great read!

Although most mystery thrillers you can predict the ending by the time you get to the middle of the book, with this one their was no way to predict what would happen next.
Set in a small town, the story follows multiple characters while revealing secrets from their pasts.
You will be surprised who done it. I know I was.

I have a lot of issues with The Boomerang Effect, mostly in the fact that it jumps all over the place and doesn't give you a satisfying enough conclusion to justify it. There are three characters in particular--Tom, Andy, and Katy, who is the main victim in all of this--who I found interesting. The rest, not so much. There were just too many moving pieces going on, and they didn't seem to make much of a difference in the end, given that conclusion, which is an obvious lead up to the next book. Overall, I wasn't too impressed, but that's only because the end wasn't satisfying. Not for me anyway.

Pretty good. Although the POV kept changing so that Id have to keep looking back to see who was who. And there were definitely some unanswered questions at the end about some of the characters involved. Think I'll have to read the second book to get those answers. I do have to say, that when I found out who was causing the 'accidents' (dont want to say more as it could be a spoiler) , I was surprised. I really thought it was another character up to that point. Other than that, I think it could have been 'fleshed out' a little more but the sequel may do that.
