My reaction at the end of this volume: SAY WHAAAAAAAAAAAT!!!??
Wow.... Yukiteru getting all badass? Pretty awesome...it's a shame its actually Yuno making him badass by giving him a script, but when I saw this panel, I about died from awesomeness!
I loved it! But then I was a little sad when I found out Yuno had scripted all of Yukiteru's badass-ness :-( Oh well, I'm still a little impressed.
But whoa, I can't wait to find out what's really up with Yuno!! I must read the 9th volume soon! Haha!

This is a review of the entire series!
I debated between giving this 2 or 3 stars, and would lean more toward 2.5. There were a couple of things I really liked about it, but many more things I really didn't like about it.
High schooler Yukiteru Amano is a socially awkward loner who considers himself a bystander. He'd rather mind his own business instead of getting involved with other people, writing every mundane activity of his life in a cellphone diary. Secretly tormented by his solitude, he invents an imagery friend called Deus Ex Machina who claims to be the Lord of Time & Space. Taking pity on the lonesome Yuki, Deus grants his diary the ability to record future events. After learning that 11 other people with unique future diaries show up around Japan, Yuki learns that Deus is not a product of his imagination, and he has been selected to take part in a death game that involves fighting to become the next ruler of causality by outsmarting each other with their new prophetic devices. Luckily for Yuki, one of the death game's participants is his fellow classmate Yuno Gasai, the prettiest girl in his school who happens to love him so much that she would put her life on the line to protect him.
Speaking of Yuno, she's where most of the fun comes from. She's a severely unstable, possessive sociopath that will happily slaughter anyone and anything that get in the way of her selfish romantic fantasies. She's famous for inventing the infamous yandere trope (psycho/killer/stalker love interest) While she can technically be seen as the villain of the series and it's hard to fully sympathize with her because of how violent, impulsive and controlling she is, all of the other characters are so unlikable and bland that I often found myself rooting for her to just rip everyone else in the story to shreds.
Yuki is the main character, but he's such a whiny and idiotic pushover that I couldn't connect with the unhealthy relationship brewing between him and Yuno. I understand it's supposed to be a psychological thriller, but the story seemed to romanticize their relationship rather than portraying it for what it really was: predatory, abusive and horribly toxic. I would've rather had Yuno as the main protagonist and explore her tragic and demented backstory through much more intriguing characters to bounce off of rather than through a relationship with one of the lamest dudes in manga history.
The plot jumps around way too fast. None of the competitors have interesting personalities or motives so I didn't really feel any stakes or tension in the action. The only side character I somewhat liked is (funnily enough) another batshit crazy girl who plays the role of a cosplaying terrorist named Uryuu Minene. The dialogue could get really bad as the characters never reacted to death, betrayal or horrifying situations realistically. There's a point where a character discovers three dead bodies in his girlfriend's house, runs away in fear, then casually remains her partner for the rest of the series like nothing ever happened. There are many more scenes exactly like this where characters don't react and process things in remotely realistic or believable ways.
Some of the twists in the later parts of the series involving time and causality were admittedly cool, but they're introduced in a rushed and convoluted way which makes it feel messy overall. The action was good, there were a few emotional moments and the absolute chaotic nature of Yuno and Uryuu were exciting to watch unfold, but everything else about the characters, story and conflict of the narrative fall apart at the seams.

Yuki se réveille enfin... Il était temps. J'en avais marre de ce personnage fade. 💀
Yuno est encore plus folle que ce qu'on croyait. Ça apporte un peu de piment à cette histoire qui commençait à s'essouffler. 😊

Wow! This volume made up for the previous ones. Character development for Yukki and great plot-twist!
There was cool James Bond type scene for Yukki and Yuno. Also Akise, that clever boy, did some research and found out the real past of Yuno's. That twist!
From this volume it seems that Yuno and Yukki really need each other. They are codepended, Yuno is Yukki's savoir, Yukki is Yuno's sanity. So they are a great team!

Still loving the story. Yuno Gasai is just about the craziest character I have ever encountered in a story.

Me gusta la forma en la que se están desarrollando las cosas, al fin se ve un poco de crecimiento en el personaje de Yuki, auqnue la dirección en la que crece no es lo que uno pensaría. Por otro lado la forma en la que reacciona a lo que hizo el padre en el tomo anterior es ridícula y no tiene ningún sentido.
Se descubre el secreto de Yuno, pero un misterio aún más grande ocupa su lugar, sigo pensando que ella es el mejor personaje de la serie. Bueno, esta reseña es medio críptica, pero no quiero meter ningún spoiler :)

Ooh, much improvement to the previous volume! This had exciting scenes and twists and the characters were using different tactics than before. I like turn Yukiteru has taken as a character. I mean, he may be less innocent now but he's also more interesting and active.

I will suffer for not buying beyond volume 8 because volume 8 ends with a shocker. Wikipedia suggests there are 11 volumes and indicates only volumes 9 and 10 as having been published in English. I cannot get the last two English volumes at this point; oh well.

Ugh I hate their plan to catch 8th and 11th. In this volume I am rooting for 8th and 9th to win- not Yukki! Though I did like their way of exposing the mayor.

Determined to make his deadbeat father face up to his crime of killing Yukiteru's mother, Yukiteru follows all the clues his father had left behind and finally corners him. But when his father confesses his feelings of what he had done to the family, all seems to be just a little brighter, until Eighth leaves a gruesome surprise for First...
Then, Yukiteru and Yuno form a fake alliance with Eighth to bring down Eleventh, but in actuality it was only to kill Eighth before Eleventh could snatch her diary for his yet unknown dastardly plan. And as bonds are building just right under the point of unbreakable, Aru Akise confronts Yukiteru and Yuno with information that proves the Yuno Gasai they've all come to know to be an impostor!
Future Diary is already over half over, but it appears they had to throw a few more twists in there to keep it going just a bit longer. Future Diary the manga truly never fails to impress and entertain me so long as I read each volume in one sitting. I have to say that even though all of Yukiteru's badass moments were scripted by Yuno, they were still impressive. Anyone can read off of a script, but to actually pull it off means you already have that fire in you. Yukiteru puts himself down too much, but at least now that both of his parents are dead, he's much less of a coward. I suppose that's due to the fact that he has nothing left to lose, and he also has a real motive for winning the game. However, by the middle to end of this volume, that wasn't even the most exciting revelation yet. Apparently Yuno was a foster child. That explains the strictness and detachment her parents demonstrated towards her, and her misunderstanding of how to make them understand her feelings (well, sort of. That last part could happen to any child with some serious issues). But that's not all. There were three bodies found in the crater on Yuno Gasai's property, one of them being unidentifiable to a point where Akise had to do some serious digging. When he found the DNA of the original Yuno Gasai, it was revealed that the third body found was none other than that of Yuno Gasai! So what does this mean? Does Yuno have a twin? Or is she truly an impostor? What motive would she have to impersonate a pitiable foster child? What reason /wouldn't/ she have to do the previously stated?
Future Diary has thrown in these sorts of twists often, but this time it's different because Yuno is now the only one who needs another person to keep her going. Without Yukiteru, she will become unstable to a point where she might just slaughter everyone or even get herself killed by doing something even crazier. And Yukiteru is also at a point where he could possibly leave Yuno for good this time, triggering Yuno's previously theorized craziness. All of the other diary owners now have their own agendas and motives, but Yuno's only motive is to keep Yukiteru alive so that she may have a future of marrying him.
One last thing, I can see Akise's demise coming up soon ahead, so I'm already trying to detach myself from him. Why is it always the characters I like that die? Well, I guess they kill off characters I don't like too...

The revelation about Yuno in this volume has to be the most ridiculous thing that's happened in this series. And I didn't see it coming at all. I'm just not sure where things can go from here. I'm sure I'll be just as floored in the next volume.
This one is full of the usual craziness. Yuki is ready to avenge his mother, and I have to say it's nice to see Yuki with a backbone. He and Yuno really become a team. He knows he needs her to survive, but he's starting to do his share. The two of them make a pretty great team when they're cooperating with each other. Of course, Akise shows up just in time to screw things up for Yuno. I don't even know what to think anymore. I'm going to go with it and see how things turn out.

En gros, un manga à l'aspect psychologique si développé (si tordu aussi!) qu'on se demande qui est l'auteur dans la "vraie" vie, un battle royale qui mélange action, suspens et addictivité, une histoire d'amour qui sort des sentiers battus. Bref, un manga qui aurait mérité un point de plus si je n'avais pas été un peu perplexe devant les 2 derniers tomes, mais que je recommande tout de même pour son côté "décalé". Je ne l'oublierais pas de sitôt !

Now Yuki is really trying to become god, the death of the seventh was so emotional I really like them and a secret is revealed what will Yuki do now? This was one of the most intersting volumes of the serie.
