After the death of Rose Marie Le Sant’s parents, Count Francois de Vallier becomes obsessed with his eighteen year old niece and thoughts of the vast fortune that she will inherit on her twenty-first birthday. But eighteen year old Rose Marie has other ideas and runs away, arriving in Marseilles and stowing away aboard a clipper ship bound for America. The Captain of the Raven was captivated as well as frustrated by the beautiful, impetuous Rose Marie. From the moment Ross Chandler found her stowed away aboard his ship, he had desired her. But there had been other beautiful women in his life before, women who had betrayed him and Ross had vowed never to risk his heart again, not even for Rose Marie. Ross and Rose Marie sail to San Francisco where they find love amongst the ruins of the shattered city. The Count is not far behind, though, and more determined than ever to have Rose Marie back under his control again, no matter the cost.
Multiple POVs, from the main people, secondary people, animals, villains and the earth. Very long, very detailed in everything but the ending felt very rushed from overall what you experienced as you read. The golden rose isn’t the ship, it’s Rose Marie after she left her husband to work as a singer in a hotel, the ship is called the Raven.
I also want to point out that there was no real earthquake in 1850 that destroyed buildings and caused fires. This would be the 1906 earthquake not 1850.
This book had it all: passion, romance, intrigue, danger, adventure, and tragedy.
This turned out to be an absolute amazing read. The author takes you on a wonderful journey across the ocean with Rose Marie & Ross as they go from France to New Orleans to San Fransico. You will get to feel the rolling of the clipper deck as you discover your sea legs, smell the sea air, feel the ocean breeze blowing through your hair, and see the wonder of the vast ocean. The author paints such amazing vivid pictures, you can really feel and see what they experience.
Rose Marie is such a sweet caring person that has not been corrupted by family wealth or her beauty and tries to see the good in everyone. Afraid for her niece, her ill aunt sends her and Luis off to America in the dead of night. They stowaway aboard an American clipper ship captained by brave handsome Ross Chandler.
Ross is attracted to his stowaway and tries to seduce her but she resists all his moves. Rose finds her protectors in the form of his crew as they all are charmed by her. Ross had been hurt in the past by beautiful women but he too will slowly fall under her spell.
They are chased across the ocean by one evil man and they discover more evil villians in every port that are willing to commit crimes in the name of the evil man for money. They and their friends will encounter much danger on land and on the ocean as they fight both mother nature and evil.
