In today's highly competitive business world, being credible is not enough. You have to look credible. It's a rather short book but it hits the nail. It delivers exactly what it promises.
It's divided in 8 sections, it tackles 6 important skills or habits and gives you examples and exercises so you could practice them yourself.
I'm giving it 4 stars tops because at this point I'm not feeling this whole credibility thing, I just don't care about this stuff (and maybe I never will). But I'm sure that if I ever need advice on the subject, this is the first book I'll come back to and I would recommend it to others that are having issues with this.
I recommend this book to everyone who wants to improve their communication skills. Every chapter focuses on areas to improve and at the end of each chapter there is a demonstration video, that I found very useful. I plan to apply the advice from the last chapter - take videos of myself, watch them (yes, it's weird for me as well to watch myself speak) and learn what I do wrong and how I can improve.
Pretty precise techniques are taught to avoid the bad practices of oral communication and public presentations. On line videos are useful to understand the do’s and dont’s the author is explaining. Assessment and practice are a must. Life changing book.
The best resource for creating the great impression you seek
There are books with interesting insights into how we form an impression of other people and those with principles of how to carry yourself in front of an audience. Far more rare is the book which has not only all that, but also an actionable plan for identifying your strengths and weaknesses and creating a plan to transform yourself into the successful person you want to be.
Cara Hale Alter's solid coaching--and skillfully enacted examples in the accompanying videos--are far and away the most useful presentation and public presence advice I have ever received. I was a popular presenter at my last company, but the experience of reading this book and of attending one of Ms. Alter's workshops have made it clear just how much more effective I can be. Every chapter will provide insight and inspire positive change.
Even without doing the exercises you can begin to make a difference in the way you project yourself. If you then practice the straightforward suggestions tuned to the areas you wish to improve, you will get those new skills under your skin and reap the benefit henceforth.
This book is going to repay you for its cost and the time you spend on it many, many times over. Highly recommended for anyone who ever talks to anyone!
The books description is exactly right - 25 useful steps you can take, complete with supporting video examples and suggestions to make the steps stick. Well worth reading.
Easy to read, great advice. Lots of small exercises to work on the ideas presented in the chapters. Great read if you are looking to get better and public speaking.
My daughter and I read this book together. It helped her score one of the highest scores in her pageant for the personal introduction. I liked it so much I am using it in my business classes.
