FREE at AllRomanceEbooks! Read a few of these around Christmas 2013, gonna put it aside for now and pick it back up Christmas 2014!

Gifts from the Tree by Kay Berrisford 3 stars - I liked the first half of this a little better than the second. It's set up well with James having mixed emotions after being stood up by Phin, and then subsequently feeling lonely at having to spend Christmas Eve alone. I think the disconnect for me was that Phin and James had only been on a few dates, and therefor things seemed to progress waaaay to fast in the second half of the book. Unfortunately the narration got crazy loopy and flourishy all of a sudden during the sex scene, "His orgasm building...stars flashed and exploded, like at the dawn of time, and he quaked beneath a torrent of primal energy..." Seriously?!?! But it was certainly funny and James did have his moments, "He'd gone mad. Or he was dead. Or his would-be boyfriend had just shifted from the form of an oak back into a devastatingly handsome human with a massive hard-on." .

Christmas in Hawaii by Valynda King 4 stars - I have a huge soft spot for characters with a psychological disorder, particularly OCD (One Small Thing) and agoraphobia (When One Door Opens). So obviously, I loved River. This was a really sweet story and their relationship development and feelings felt genuine. For some reason, the sex scene is actually the only scene that felt a little forced or less genuine to me. It may have been the dirty talk but I'm not entirely sure.

Christmas Tree Magic (Moon Pack #8.5) by Amber Kell DNF - short story from the Moon Wolf series. The first book in the series, Attracting Anthony, is free, which I would recommend reading first so you know the characters. I started this but the characters from books 4, 6, 7, and 8 showed up and I don't think I want any spoilers so I may hold off on this one. Basically, it's a sappy little followup on a few characters. There doesn't seem to be any cohesive theme between the couples' stories (except that it's Christmas), and nothing really happens. I would NOT recommend this to anyone who hasen't completed the Moon Pack series.

Mistletoe and YouTube by Francis Gideon -

Josh's Christmas Angel by A.T. Weaver 2 stars - First off, I have a little bit of a pet peeve with stories set in winter that casually mention Christmas once and then call it a Christmas story, but I digress. The premise of this was sweet, but seemed like Scott was there to "save" Josh in some way either spiritually or otherwise. But Josh was kinda fine. He didn't seem depressed enough about his partners death, and Scott didn't bring quite enough life back into things for him to have turned Josh's world around. The two things that kept this a lower rating for me though, were that the dialogue was too formal a lot of the times and they had the most awkward reunion I have ever read.

RJ Scott - Deefur And The Great Mistletoe Incident
Caitlin Ricci - A Jaguar for Christmas
AJ Henderson - Christmas Reunion
Meredith Russell - Spiced Apple and Cinnamon
Tom Alexander - Ivy Park
Gary Hendrickson - Our Best Christmas
Christopher John - Two for Hooking
John Wiley - Once you go Black Friday
Hollis Shiloh - The Christmas Mansion
Abigail Winters - Love Delayed
Diane Adams - Christmas Lightning
Aisling Mancy - Joyeux Noel
Allan Jay - Christmas Angel
JC Wallace - Waiting for Snow
SA Garcia - Paid with a Full Moon
Nicole Dennis - Christmas Promise

A wonderful collection of holiday-themed short stories from some new authors as well as some favorite ones! I had the honor and pleasure of proofing one of these stories and fell in love with Dain and Jake.

There is something for everyone in this collection. I found all the stories totally enjoyable and I highly recommend.

Twenty one Christmas themed stories, for free! Like all collections, there are some I didn't care for (but only really 2), half a dozen I loved and the rest were either fine or I liked quite a bit.
I did like that at the start of each story there was a bit of a blurb to put the story into context. The themes ranged from shifters, reunited friends/lovers, hockey players, PTSD, shopping horrors, dogs, doctors, firemen - quite a wide range.
Overall, a good collection. As usual, I rated each story and the average came out at 3.63, so a good score.

RJ has done it once again. She has gathered a collection of stories from Established and Not-So-Well-Known authors. I won't go into detail of each author and their corresponding tale because to do so, in all honesty, would create a review of a length which you would have no desire to wade through. I will, however, simply sum up this creative collection by stating that in here you will find your tried & true traditional lore, a bit of slightly out-of-the-ordinary storytelling, and even some thinking that can only be classified as outright thought provoking. But after having read each of these instances, you will come away with no doubt of having been thoroughly entertained.

So, if it's entertainment you are seeking in the realm of the Holiday Spirit, then by all means, get this delightful stimulating anthology and prepare to be wined & dined.

"Christmas in Hawaii" by Valynda King:

I picked this story first because I find MCs with OCD interesting. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that both MCs are black, a rarity in m/m romance. Both are also computer geeks. River has OCD and is agoraphobic, so he is less than thrilled about a business trip he's forced to take. While on the plane, Coolidge comes to his defense after an incident with a flight attendant, and it turns out they have another connection. Of course, the story was too short to adequately explore River's issues (what was the "more" he hinted at?) or show the progression of the relationship. But what was here, I liked and I'll be on the lookout for more from this author. 3.5 stars.

This is a great holiday collection. Loved getting to read about some characters I had already met and meeting a bunch of new ones as well. There are a couple of cute little surprises like the guy who is reading R J Scott on his Nook in one of the stories. There is a lot to bright your holiday in this collection.

Gifts from the Tree by Kay Berrisford

The Blurb: When Phin deserts James on Christmas Eve, offering vague excuses, James is left wondering how well he knows the man he’s been seeing. Phin, an expert on forest mythology, clearly has secrets, which doesn’t make James feel any better as he faces Christmas alone. But when an attempt to collect a Christmas tree takes a strange and magical turn, James finds out the supernatural happenings in the woods and Phin’s absence could be linked.

So what did I think? Totally unique, for me at least as I've never read anything like it. I mean tree shifters wouldn't usually be my story of choice! I definitely don't think I'll be looking at my Christmas tree the same! :) This is a sweet story of two lecturers. James is a bookworm and Phin is his crush. They are just starting a relationship when Phin says he can't spend Christmas Eve with James as planned. James' night starts out lonely before strange things start to happen when James heads out to cut down a tree. Let's just say it gives new meaning to 'popping wood' as James is protected by a strange forest warden and ends up spending a very unexpected Christmas! "He'd gone mad. Or he was dead. Or his would-be boyfriend had just shifted from the form of an oak back into a devastatingly handsome human with a massive hard-on." 3.5 stars

Christmas in Hawaii by Valynda King

The Blurb: River is a mess, well so he thinks. He has OCD and Agoraphobia, disorders he has been learning to deal with since he was a kid. Now as an adult and years of hard work and therapy he has a job working from home as a trouble shooter for a technology company. Everything seemed fine until a new owner bought the company and his world tilted on it's axis. Now he's on a plane heading to Hawaii just before Christmas. His anxiety is through the roof on the verge of a panic attack and the only light at the end of this tunnel is the Adonis sitting a few rows back and knowing he was finally going to meet Coolidge.

So what did I think? At the risk of making myself seem like a very uncaring person, I was actually put off when I first realised that one of the MCs had OCD. I've seen these things handled poorly in the past and worried it would make it hard for me to like the character of River. But I shouldn't have worried! The OCD was handled with realism (no pulling punches, River did the whole counting repetitive thing) but was beautifully accepted by Coolidge who was so understanding, earning River's honesty and trust. Loved the characters names - Cool and River - can't get much cooler than that! Plus I loved that the guys were physically attracted from first sight but it becomes clear that they know a lot more about each other than first thought and their attraction is more than just hot sex. "You're the guy that I can talk to when I am happy or angry. You're the guy I can talk to about anything and you keep my secrets. And you're the guy I think about before I go to sleep. I know you, River, and now I know even more and it doesn't change a thing." So romantic! 4 stars.

Mistletoe and YouTube by Francis Gideon

The Blurb: After exams finish for Matt and Aiden, there isn't a lot left to do but watch Christmas YouTube videos and find new ways to kiss under the mistletoe.

So what did I think? This was a cute light read. Just one quick scene. Very with the times as two college guys, Matt and Aiden, watch a YouTube clip of kissing under the mistletoe. Wanting to experience a kiss of their own, and with a bit of creativity involving the laptop and climbing under an IKEA desk, they manage to do so. 3 cute stars.

A Jaguar for Christmas by Caitlin Ricci

The Blurb: Jackson doesn't really understand why everyone is so excited about Christmas. The holiday hasn't meant anything but loneliness to him for years. But when a new model comes in for a photo shoot, will it be the chance he needs to break out of his old routine and try something different?

So what did I think? This was a really interesting premise but to be honest, the shifter element seemed pretty irrelevant to the story. It didn't feel very Christmassy but it was a nice story about a guy who finds a bit of happiness. It felt a little like the start of something so I wanted to read more to see where the story would take Peter and Jackson. 3 stars

Our Best Christmas by Gary Hendrickson

The Blurb: Jackson swore he'd make it up to Kevin over what happened last year, but trouble at work is making it difficult to follow through on his plan then an unexpected gift on Christmas Eve changes everything.

So what did I think? While I thought the story had potential, something in the telling was lacking and I never quite got into the story. I was continually noting spelling and areas I thought weren't grammatically correct which drew my attention away from the story itself. It also felt slightly stilted. I did like the happy ending! 2.5 stars

3,5 stars

My personal favorites were Gifts from the Tree by Kay Berrisford and Christmas in Hawaii by Valynda King. Both stories were quite good and also had interesting characters, be it a christmas spirit or a tech guy with an OCD. I read them both pretty quick and was interested in the stories which were easy to follow and had enough emotional entangalment to keep my attention. They were a 4 stars read the others were a mixed bag. There were stories that just didn't work for me and others that were ok, but nothing special. But I appreciate that the anthology was free and had a good selection of different authors. Some stories were better written than others, I got curious about a story that was about characters from another book the author had written, but that was a bit confusing since I didn't read that one and couldn't relate.

Thanks RJ and LLB for putting such a wonderful Christmas Anthology together . The stories have between them made me chuckle, go " Aaww" and some have caused a tear. Some I thought at the end" yes that's finished". Others I thought" No. I need more here" but in a good way! I've read authors new to me and some firm favourites. Catching up with the Moon Pack, just reinforces how much I love them. All the contributions have been like an early Christmas present and added bonus all for free. Epic. Lol. Oh, and RJ Deefer was delicious ( I voted for this one to be done.... So worth it!) if there were more than 5 stars I'd award them.

I wanted to read a couple of nice Christmas stories. And I must admit, this anthology started out okay. But after reading 3 or 4 stories, it all went downhill. The stories became shorter and the writing went from okay, to horrifying..

So after 200 pages of bad stories I decided to stop torturing myself.

How am I supposed to rate this anthology???

Most stories are 3,5* there is one with 5* as well as a few with 4* ...and then there's the last story (Christmas Promise) I would have given it 3* before the three women turned up and reduced the story to 1* for misogyny and absolute stupidity.

So I'll go with 3,5* and an upgrade to 4* because the free anthology was
a very nice early Christmas present. Thank you.

REVIEW:

The Book includes the following stories:-

RJ Scott - Deefur and the Great Mistletoe Incident - Wonderful addition to the original story. I for one wouldn't mind reading more about Cameron and Jason...and of course Emma and Deefur!

Amber Kell - Christmas Tree Magic -For fans of the Moon Pack series this is a sweet peek at how some of them will be spending holidays. I think the section with Farro and Kylen was my favorite. Kylen's take on Santa was hilarious!

Meredith Russell - Spiced Apple and Cinnamon - Keegan doesn't like waking alone, but his fireman partner has drawn the early Christmas shift. When Alex finally gets home Christmas can really begin.

Diane Adams - Christmas Lightning - As a transplanted to Virginia form California girl I have experienced snow now but not lightning snow...now I am going to be looking for it!

Kay Berrisford - Gifts from the Tree - Kay Berrisford is a new author for me but I loved this story and thought the mythology was unique and the story intriguing!

Nicole Dennis - Christmas Promise - This wonderful story is the last in the book but so worth reading. It made me cry the hardest and left me feeling hopeful!

Caitlin Ricci - A Jaguar for Christmas - RAWR sexy nekkid man who can turn into a jaguar, and a bah humbug photog who needs some Christmas spirit!

John Wiley - Once you go Black Friday - A Black Friday pro and a Virgin experience the night together but walk away with more than great deals.

SA Garcia - Paid with a Full Moon - This was totally my "lampshade" story! LOL

A.T. Weaver - Josh's Christmas Angel - An emotional story about the strength it takes to open your heart a second time.

Valynda King - Christmas in Hawaii - Another new to me author whose story dealt with things we don't usually find in romance stories. I thought is was sweet and thoughtful and I would like to read more about how Coolidge deals with River's issues.

Christopher John - Two for Hooking - Julia Roberts eat your heart out! From a hook up gone terribly wrong to a Christmas Miracle! My new favorite hooker story. I would love to see a follow up to this on how well the coming out goes.

Francis Gideon - Mistletoe and YouTube - Matt and Aiden come up with a unique way to kiss under the mistletoe!

Allan Jay - Christmas Angel - Shaun just needed to open his eyes and see the angel in front of him!

Aisling Mancy - Joyeux Noel - I am loving all of the second chances stories and this was another winner.

Gary Hendrickson - Our Best Christmas - Sweet story and the epilogue was the best part!

Hollis Shiloh - The Christmas Mansion - This is a story that would have benefited with more. The character's were interesting just left a lot unexplained.

Tom Alexander - Ivy Park - Beautifully poignant story about a broken man and his struggle to find hope.

AJ Henderson - Christmas Reunion - Oh this one was just too short. I wanted to read more about Eric and Dillon....we were just getting to the good stuff!!!

Abigail Winters - Love Delayed - The ultimate second chances story, and another one that I was wishing for more.

JC Wallace - Waiting for Snow - A beautiful story of strength and survival!

This was a fun anthology with some very unique, intriguing stories. As with any anthology some stories were stronger than others and editing mistakes stand out more in these shorter stories. I did find some beautiful writing and some authors that I will seek out more from.

Due to lack of space I won't post the story by story reviews here. I'll have them up on my blog shortly.

Great anthology. Most of the stories are so sweet you'll get cavities, which is exactly what you're supposed to get with something like this. I'm not typically a huge fan of holiday stories but this is perfect for when you're in the mood for that.

This is a typical Christmas anthology, filled with mostly sugary sweet short stories. This amount of sweetness might have made me inclined to detract a star if it had been another type of book, but if you buy a romantic holiday anthology, this is what you should expect.

I actually liked the sweetness of these short, delightful little Christmas candies. There were only two things that I didn’t like so much: that some of the stories were very poorly edited and that some of the stories were part of a series and I felt like they would have made a lot more sense to me if I had read that series.

All in all, this is a book to be read in front of an open fire place with a large cup of cocoa beside you.

My favorite stories in this collection are both pretty quirky and – of course – sweet: The Christmas Mansion by Hollis Shiloh and Gifts from the Tree by Kay Berrisford.

Gifts From The Tree: 2 stars. The tree thing was too weird to get past. Took away from the story for me.

Christmas In Hawaii: 5 stars. I loved River and Coolidge together. This one was a gem by an author I had never read. I will definitely read more from this author.

Christmas Tree Magic: 5 stars. It's Amber Kell. What can I say I love her. The best part of this story was Dare and the presents. So funny!!

Mistletoe and YouTube: 1 star. This story was so bland and boring I found myself skipping sections of it and it wasn't that long of a story. I couldn't even begin to tell you what it was about. *sigh*

Josh's Christmas Angel: 4 stars. I enjoyed this one. It was nice and sweet. Too short but still good.

Deefur and The Great Mistletoe Incident: 4 stars. Omg. This one was so cute. It was nice catching up with this couple again. I really enjoyed this one.

A Jaquar For Christmas: 2 stars. All I can say is WTF???? I know these are short stories but there was no beginning middle and end. This was not a story but a plot outline that wasn't finished.

More to come as I finish each story.

Christmas Delights is wonderful. Each of the stories gives the whole book a great read. Some stories made me cry & laugh. There were a couple stories that stood out. Story of the Soldier and his partner. The soldier afraid because he was missing a limb to go home to his partner. The story of an abused man afraid to love. Another story of one man helping another. I think with all the stories they show a kind of love that only comes around once, your soul mate if you know what I mean. The stories are on first contact with each other that each person feels a connections.

This was a really nice collection of Christmas stories; I didn't love all of them but I did like the majority which ensures I'll read them again. I think my only real complaint is that the majority of the offerings ended with the story on Christmas and while I can understand the authors' reasoning for that, it would've been really nice to have seen just a little more to ensure that happy ever after. *shrugs* I know that's pretty picky of me but that's just how I like them. :P Like I said though, I enjoyed the anthology quite a bit, especially for a nice start to my holiday season.

A mixed bag of stories. Some of the stories had a compelling premise but the execution was awkward. Some stories were obviously epilogues of previous novels which aren't so enjoyable by new readers. Some were good stories. I didn't feel too wowed though.

I gave it an extra half star for being free.

I like all the stories in the book minus one; Paid with a full moon by S.A Garcia. I skimmied most of it, I don't like like decit/liss or exploiting a partner without permission - the story wasn't to my tastes. However, the series on a whole was great to put you in the Christmas spirit (... in May).

So much Christmas. Most of these were pretty decent, though a few of them just couldn't hold my attention. The biggest drawback is how many of these stories are tied to other series, so that if you don't know the back-story it just isn't as interesting. Not the most horrible antho out there, but I've read better. Nice if you are in a mood for snow and more snow, though.
