When she was young, pilot and airplane owner Retta King made a promise never to get involved with any of the migratory song birds who flew into Nashville to chase stardom. Then she met Denison Adams, a tall, handsome rancher from Oklahoma, who was trying to break into the song-writing world. Denison was attracted to the sassy Retta from the first, but he had no intentions of getting involved with any woman who didn’t accept him for what he was.
Hi! I'm twenty five years old and movie star gorgeous. The camera added thirty plus years and a few wrinkles. Can't trust those cameras or mirrors either. Along with bathroom scales they are notorious liars! Honestly, I am the mother of three fantastic grown children who've made me laugh and given me more story ideas than I could ever write. My husband, Charles, is my strongest supporter and my best friend. He's even willing to eat fast food and help with the laundry while I finish one more chapter! Life is good and I am blessed!
Reading has been a passion since I was five years old and figured out those were words on book pages. As soon as my chubby little fingers found they could put words on a Big Chief tablet with a fat pencil, I was on my way. Writing joined reading in my list of passions. I will read anything from the back of the Cheerio's box to Faulkner and love every bit of it. In addition to reading I enjoy cooking, my family and the ocean. I love the Florida beaches. Listening to the ocean waves puts my writing brain into high gear.
I love writing romance because it's about emotions and relationships. Human nature hasn't changed a bit since Eve coveted the fruit in the Garden of Eden. Settings change. Plots change. Names change. Times change. But love is love and men and women have been falling in and out of it forever. Romance is about emotions: love, hate, anger, laughter... all of it. If I can make you laugh until your sides ache or grab a tissue then I've touched your emotions and accomplished what every writer sets out to do.
I got serious about writing when my third child was born and had her days and nights mixed up. I had to stay up all night anyway and it was very quiet so I invested in a spiral back notebook and sharpened a few pencils. The story that emerged has never sold but it's brought in enough rejection slips to put the Redwood Forest on the endangered list. In 1997 Kensington bought two books for their Precious Gems line. Two years and six books later the line died with only four of those books seeing publication. But by then Avalon had bought a book and another, and another. Ten years later the list has grown to thirty nine. Last year Sourcebooks bought the Lucky Series which is in the bookstores now. They've also bought The Honky Tonk Series which will debut with I LOVE THIS BAR in June and will be followed by HELL, YEAH, MY GIVE A DAMN'S BUSTED, and HONKY TONK CHRISTMAS.
Folks ask me where I get my ideas. Three kids, fifteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren. Note: I was a very young grandmother! Life is a zoo around here when they all come home. In one Sunday afternoon there's enough ideas to keep me writing for years and years. Seriously, ideas pop up at the craziest times. When one sinks its roots into my mind, I have no choice but to write the story. And while I'm writing the characters peek over my shoulder and make sure I'm telling it right and not exaggerating too much. Pesky little devils, they are!
I have a wonderful agent, Erin Niumata, who continues to work magic and sell my work. I'm very lucky to have her and my editors who continue to believe in me.
It's amazing how you can feel like you can see the clouds flying past the small plane yet smell the flowers in the shop. All You have to do is find a book by Carolyn Brown and read it.
Dreamers go to Nashville. Stars are in Nashville. Stars burn out in Nashville. Dreams die in Nashville. It is a place where people become jaded by seeing the hard work and the dark underbelly of the music industry. Patsy Loretta King was just such a person. She lived in Nashville and had the gift to become a star but was not interested in the music industry of the shallow people who wanted to dip their hands into the pot of gold. Denison Adams was a Okie rancher encouraged by his family to take a break and go to Nashville and give his dream a try. Maybe he would find his hit song. Maybe he would find a woman he could love forever. He just need to get away from small town Oklahoma.
Falling Star is about Retta and Dennison and their strong attraction to each other. She is a pilot and wants nothing to do with singer/song writers. He's a rancher, on vacation, exploring the possibility of becoming a singer/song writer. Definitely one of the earlier stories by Carolyn Brown because the story and characters are not as strong or funny as usual. Still worth the time to read.
The story was an easy read and it was absolutely adorable. The couple was destined to be together especially since her parents from another realm of life were rooting for them. Stars had always been an important aspect of her life and the father was able to send subliminal messages to assist her in realizing her star was presently within her reach and all she had to do grasp it! Happy ending!
Sometimes being a star means much more than having a show business career! Retta and chooses not to have a career in singing and has no interest in Denison because she thinks he is trying to break into the country music world. They both find their future in the stars above.
Another happy ever after with planes falling from the sky, first flashes of love dying and to be rekindled by gallows of years and listening to your hearts Stardom and awards aren't anything unless there is true love to go with it. Love to read Carolyn Brown books after a dreary day Thank you Carolyn. Keep the wonderful stories coming.
Love Mrs. Brown's stories. Its like listening to the folks from home . Shopping in places I to shopped, driving down the same roads, fishing the same lake. Watching falling stars from our back porch and wishing before anyone else had the chance. No wonder Dennison hated to leave, its a peace of heaven.
Sweet little book about love and how it finds you. Retta is stubborn about the man she might marry. Living in Nashville there will not be any chasing after a contract or sinning career. Tetra has a lovely singing voice but put her behind a smart plane is all she ever wanted. Enjoy
I know it's sure to be an enjoyable book when Carolynn Brown is the author and this proved true for this story. A cute and sweet romance proving love comes at will and can surprise you. Sometimes it is not as you expect and you have to drop your preconceived notions and open your heart.
Completely sappy. If you are looking for a quick easy, read with plot, even more predictable than Hallmark movies, this is it. Does not leave me wanting more. But was good for me right now because I have a lot on my mind and it was very light reading. I would not recommend it. I just saw it in the library and liked the title.
Awww it took a tragedy to open the heart of Retta as in the backend of Loretta! Her dearest possession, sky King, burnt beyond recognition but she was alive and saved by one of those Nashville songwriters who saw stars or did he! Hallmark ending again! Thank you Carolyn Brown!
As much as I love Carolyn Brown, this is my second condolences favorite. So much symbolism and thought. Dennison might be my favorite leading man. Hiding from fate and then going down in a blaze only to rise up in a halo of love. Thanks, as always, Carolyn!
I enjoyed every part of this story and loved all of the characters!! I needed to read something like this and Carolyn Brown was just the one to write it!!!! Enjoy reading this story as much as I did!!!!
This story heads right where you expect it to. Though a lovely story, the characters are undeveloped and there’s a missing link in the middle. It’s still great reading which is why I recommend it.
Way, way, way too much extra verbiage in this book! I finally got to skim reading it just to finish it! Same old love story but with way to much dickering back n forth.
Tetra bowed she would never marry a man who wanted to be a star in Nashville. When she first met Denison she thought that was what he wanted. After the plane crash and a week at the ranch, she realized she had it all wrong.
A fun enjoyable love story. There are very few books by Carolyn Brown that I don't give 4 or a 5 star ratings to, but not this one. In part, it is do to her consistantly good love stories with believable characters. A fovorite author of mine for this genre!
