Ian Eshey is an entrepreneur, software consultant and tarot enthusiast. His published work includes two non-traditional books on tarot: "6 Short Stories: Learn Tarot in a Day" and "Tarot Spreads for Love, Career and More: Get Your Questions Answered".
Beside being aboard a sailboat somewhere on Mediterranean any time he can or occasionally competing in long-distance swimming, he's an avid reader of evolutionary psychology and of books on modern communication skills. Ian is also rumored to grab a Sci-Fi novel now and then, just to end up reading the complete works of the author - if the book was any good.
It’s not lying, it really does only take about 15 minutes to get through it. It has some good basic understanding information of the Tarot that a lot of the thicker books either barely touch on or go into so much detail that a new person starts to feel lost. Eshey discusses the basic meanings of the suits and the sequence of the numbers, saying that with this basic information, and with a basic understanding of symbols which usually show up on the card, you can pretty much read Tarot.
Eshey seems to heavily favor that reading Tarot is much more about kicking your intuition into action rather than communication with deities/spirits. By this theory, there is nothing supernatural going on here. It’s a matter of getting your mind to let go and look at something a different way. While I can see the value in this, I know many would probably disagree that this is the only possibility for reading Tarot. However, considering my unfortunately little success with reading Tarot at all, this would probably be a better approach for me to try.
I decided to check this little ebook out in order to see whether it's just another pulp of a "Become a flying and fire-breathing half-reptile in less than 15 min" guide. It's not. The author has a really reasonable view on the tarot and I was nicely surprised to read something so akin to my own opinion. Plus he indeed points out very simple mechanisms to get the tarot basics. If I were a newbie, I'd cry out loud with happiness to find simple, neat hints most oh-so-serious-tarot-handbooks lack. It'd be also a good read for all these OMGI'MAWITCH ladies who apparently lost their contact with reality and are pretty much thinking they're Gandalf. 3 stars, because the article discusses a mechanism to grasp minor arcana only, but I'm glad to have found this author and will certainly keep an eye on this guy's works.
I liked it because it is an easy and short advise on the way to use the cards. Realistic and to the point, it tells you the meaning of the cards and its relationship to the four elements which makes it esaier to understand for those who study astrology and holistic consueling techniques.
