Imagine waking up in a hospital on a small tourist island off the coast of southern Maine. You have no knowledge of the boating accident that claimed two lives and almost your own. In fact, you not only don’t remember the accident, you remember nothing at all. You have full blown amnesia. Your identification went down with the ship and the island sheriff isn’t able to identify you. Your doctor is a beautiful woman and as the weeks roll by, you fall deeply in love with her. You foil a robbery on the island and become something of a local hero and the townspeople take you under their wing. Slowly, as the weeks roll by, bits and pieces of information come to light and although you don’t regain your memory, you learn things about yourself. You’re not a good guy. In fact, you’re a very evil guy and your very presence on the island endangers the life of the doctor you’ve fallen in love with. What do you do?
Al Lamanda was born and raised in The Bronx, New York. He worked for many years as a private investigator and crime prevention specialist. He has authored five published novels, two feature films with another under option and more than a dozen books for Kindle.
The story moves with twists and turns everywhere. I recommend it to readers looking for intrigue with a little bit of a love story laced in. The only thing I didn’t like was the many typos.
This was a fun read. I sort of guessed where the direction of the story was going when our main character "John Doe" reacted to a situation which betrayed his previous training - reacting as nobody I know would have reacted under the circumstances - but it fit so well and the writing of the story was really good.
The shifting of scenes in time was OK, it worked well in the story, and the portrayal of how people act in a small community was as I imagined it to be.
So one of my favorite themes in books is amnesia and I picked up this read because of that. I really enjoyed this book. The slow unfolding of his background was very interesting. I won't say much more cause I don't want to give anything away.
