One sexy snow leopard shifter finds his mate and more, now Gilbert Trujillo just has to convince Jihu Warren to trust his instincts and give them a chance to be an unexpected family.

Gilbert Trujillo has watched his two older brothers, Tim and Isaiah, find their mates. He’s not sure he’s ready for such a commitment himself, even if he does kind of envy them at times. His life is about to get a lot more complicated, and if he can survive and protect the ones he loves, Gilbert just might have more than he ever dreamed possible.

Jihu Warren hasn’t known much in life other than that he was to be used to further his species. Amur shifters were bordering on extinction, and a breeding program had been established decades ago. Jihu’s desires were of no consequence. He sees no way out, no hope, until he hears rumours of Bae, a half-brother he’s never met, who escapes from the demands of the lepe. Given hope, Jihu fights for his freedom and in his search for Bae, he runs into a sexy snow leopard shifter named Gilbert Trujillo instead, and Jihu finds out there are some things, and some people, worth risking everything for.

Fate throws Gilbert and Jihu together, with a twist. Jihu’s senses have been altered by the injections given him while in captivity at Chung-Hee’s lepe. He doesn’t know who to trust, and will have to depend on himself rather than using the enhanced senses he normally has.

Together, he and Gilbert, along with a new family Jihu is quickly coming to love, will have to battle the shifters who want Jihu back at almost any cost.

A few things about me...

I am a married mom of four who spends most of the day writing, either on stories or at the blog. I love to write as much as I love to read. I am generally quiet and laid back, choosing to let things slide off me rather than stick and irritate me.

And it's really hard trying to think of descriptives for myself, so I'll just let y'all e-mail me or comment at the blog if there's something specific you'd like to know, and spare you from reading a boring bio:D

This installment is book five in the wonderful 'Leopard's Spots' series and features Gilbert Trujillo, younger brother to Tim and Isaiah, whose stories have already been presented. This story returns us to the Amur leopards and their strange breeding program which one of the protagonists, Jihu Warren, has been subjected to along with some strange injections which prevented him from accessing his shifter nature. I was excited to see where the author was going to go with the Amurs and their hateful leaders.

Gilbert has watched both if his brothers find their mates and, yes, he's starting to recognize he's lonely and having a mate would be wonderful. He's also only twenty-three, though, and because he's pretty shy he doesn't really have friends outside of his family. Gilbert is sweet, like a gentle giant. He likes to take care of the people he loves and he looks forward to the day when he'll have his own home and family. Who knew he was going to find it so soon?

Jihu has been seriously abused. Sent from his lepe in Wyoming to his grandfather's lepe in Colorado, he's been in the forced breeding program. Being gay made breeding with a female a rather disgusting concept, but methods were used against his will and a female got pregnant and carried his son to term. When they tried to force him again, he refused and fought, so his grandfather had him chained in a cell. Escaping, his only thought to get his son out of there, Jihu is helped by Ye-sun, another half-brother. Jihu was given clothes, a car, and a way to get to Bae, his half-brother who defied their grandfather.

Meeting up with Gilbert at Isaiah and Bae's home is scary for Jihu as he isn't sure of his welcome, what they will think of his son, and the fact that he didn't think he could be lucky enough to get a mate, so the whole situation is a little overwhelming. Making it even worse is that Bae's lepe, where Jihu just escaped from, is destroyed in a wildfire. Along with Bae, Isaiah, Jihu, Gilbert, and assorted cousins, they all go to see if there are any members of Bae's family left alive. Running into their evil grandfather was not part of the plan, but he wants Bae and Jihu back for his sadistic breeding program.

I really enjoyed this story and I am glad the excitement and story lines are continuing. Gilbert and Jihu were so sweet together and, very, very hot. I really liked that some resolution occurred in terms of the breeding program and that the main characters coming up in the next two stories were introduced. I'm excited to see where Ms. Bradford will be taking the series next!

Too much sex. That’s the biggest issue (and one characteristic for this author). Also, character pairings following the usual formula, every single time with very little variation. (They all seem to like the same type of sex, too.) Especially in comparison with the previous book, it’s at times difficult to tell the brothers apart (both pairs).

Then there are some weirdnesses.
Such as Isaiah in the previous book thinking of his other brother who is eighteen months his junior (unlike the still younger Gilbert) and whose name certainly wasn’t Gilbert either. It sounded like there were only three brothers: Isaiah, Tim and that dude. And now it still sounds like there are only three, except the dude was switched for Gilbert. Then again, clearly there’s at least one sister as well, so maybe there’s no end to the siblings.
More of the same oddness occurs when (I think) Gilbert thinks of his nieces and nephew (singular) but later describes them as two boys and one girl.

I realize these things are by no means story-breaking – but they suggest a certain sloppiness in writing or editing, also evidenced by several name switches.

But what really blows my mind is that apparently grandma Marybeth is furious about not having been informed instantly of one of her many grandsons finding a mate? Furious that he waited, oh, maybe up to twelve hours to assemble baby supplies and to allow the exhausted parties to get some sleep, never mind some bonding for the newly mated pair? Yep, calling up your grandmother has to be the first thing to do in any situation.
I have to say, this aggressively happy family seems almost as sick as all the others in this series – or at least the leaders do.

Finally, if it’s still part of the story, don’t chuck it into an epilogue. Grr.

I kind of want to read on now, since the next book was set up already, but I am concerned that it will go very badly for me. There’s a good chance that these books are simply better read spaced apart, so that the repetitive elements won’t grate.

This book is a 3.5 and since I believe in rounding up, I gave it a 4. I have mixed feelings about this story.

I really liked the story but the author almost ruins it for me by adding in unnecessary and painfully repetitive sex scenes every time a character turns around. You don't need to put in a sex scene every couple of pages to keep your reader interested. It's tiresome and boring. I find myself flipping pages to get past the sex to continue where the story left off. The characters care about each other, as a reader I don't need that beaten into my head by yet another scene of grunts and moans as the characters have sex. It's unnecessary. In the span of a few hours the characters had sex before running through the woods, during running through the woods and after running through the woods. Really... is this entirely necessary? Once would have sufficed.

On the other hand, the story line here was very nice. I like the fact that the snow leopard shifters are discovering more about their world and we get to learn along with them. I like the new avenues that we are learning about as more shifters of different species are being added to the mix. The characters are well rounded and you come to care about them as individuals as they grow and become stronger. I think the author could have given his characters a bit more time to heal from his forced sexual encounter, but at the same time, the character had been dealing with having been raped for a year before he ever met his mate. So the fact it didn't take pages of angst for the character to grow beyond his suffering is plausible. Although as a reader, I personally felt it deserved a bit more. Still overall the story line is good and I look forward to the next book.

This follows all the others in the rough sex department. That aside, the exploration of Jihu struggling with essentially being raped by a female thru the breeding program, makes it a darker read then intended. Now that the bastard Chung Hee is done for, I wonder what Esau and Ye-mon (I believe that they will be mates in next book) will have to overcome...

I love bailey's books. And this one was no exception.
The story was fast pacing. Loved how the characters all interacted.
And we see how the leopards cope with kids.
This is a great series.
Off to find Esau :-)

Once more Bailey Bradford has craft a good story in this the sixth book in a series of eight. The story of love conquering over evil is a good story, the continuity of the series is very well done.
