Michael McBride was born in Colorado and still resides in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains. He hates the snow, but loves the Avalanche. He works with medical radiation, yet somehow managed to produce five children, none of whom, miraculously, have tails, third eyes, or other random mutations. He writes fiction that runs the gamut from thriller to horror to science fiction...and loves every minute of it.

Good collection

I had read all the stories, except for Zero and Brood XIX so I picked up this collection. As with much of what McBride has written these were great. What a mind he has. Highly recommend this collection with 1 caveat, don't make any plans. Once you start you won't stop until you have finished all the stories. The hell with supper, the wash or even sleep!

Blindspot: Super gory science + soldiers sneaking into North Korea. Chills!

Brood XIX: A whodunnit about a missing child. Didn't like this one, more weepy than creepy.

The Calm Before the Swarm: A whodunnit about a WMD that doesn't end well for the world. (Do they ever?)

Xibalba: Sooooo good! Jungle + explorers + monstrous things always makes for a great story.

Zero: Just weird. Felt like this was trying to be a Michael Crichton story in too few words.

Good Stories

Michael McBride does not disappoint. I love a scary story with a surprise. All five of these stories are good. My favorite is Xibalba--very suspenseful.
