Matt Dymerski is an author and of science fiction and horror. His works cover a wide range, from short story anthologies to full-length novels.
Dymerski is a favorite author in r/nosleep, a popular reddit forum where authors share original horror stories. In 2012, he was awarded Best Multi-Part Story of 2012 for the Asylum series.
This was a free novella e-book from Amazon. Oh how I love 💘 those free books 📚!I
A number of short stories of a psychological nature. I like books 📚 with interesting multiple stories. As with all multiple story books you will like some better than others but that is normal.
I would recommend this novella and author to 👍 readers of psychological and multiple story novels 👍🔰. 2023 👒 😀😯🌙
I almost gave away this book unread. I couldn’t remember where or why I had bought it and was piling up others for donations. But I decided to stop and read a couple of the stories, and I’m so glad I did. I ended up reading the whole thing in one sitting and will definitely be holding on to the book.
A couple of the stories didn’t work for me, but they were outweighed by the majority that did. The titular first story is an exercise in tight plotting and excellently escalating tension. “Come Closer,” “The Lodge,” and “The Basement” are all brief but each packs a creepy punch, as does the slightly longer, “Strange Things.” And I really enjoyed the unique format of several others, particularly “Correspondance.”
I am so glad I decided to give this one a go and look forward to reading more by Dymerski.
This was a free book on amazon prime! While some of the stories would have benefited so much from being longer, overall this was pretty solid. At times, the descriptions were a bit hard to follow and the short length of some of the stories took away from the tension. But! There were some absolute gems in here.
Psychosis was really great. I didn't care for the ending, but if that last paragraph has been left out, this would have been the best story in the collection. The Fire of the Soul was amazing! Fans of Silo by Hugh Howey will have extra appreciation for this one. I also really enjoyed The Basement, Come Closer, and The Seven Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
Definitely check this out if you like short, but well written horror stories.
I was first introduced to this author through his story "Psychosis" on a Creepy Pasta web site. (I may or may not spend way too much time there haha) Being a life long horror fan there is very little that can make my heart race these days. Psychosis pulled it off though. Safe to say it's my favorite short story but Come Closer is a close second..chilling! Will definitely be following this author for more.
This is definitely my favourite story that Creepcast have read up until now!
You really get into John’s head in a way that I think “yeah he’s having a psychotic breakdown”. At the same time all his reasons and explanations of what is happening makes sense in a way that it really could go both ways.
Ive never experienced psychosis personally, but I really like how it was written and it feels like it could be a realistic portrayal of what psychosis can feel like.
I started reading this because I needed to kill time in a silent way and wanted to read scary stories. However, I rapidly got excited because of the eerie feelings the tales transmitted and the entertainment they offered me. I'm glad this was my last book in 2018 because it fueled my desire to read more in 2019 and to explore this genre more.
This novel was dark, suspenseful, and thrilling. It delved into the deep recesses of the human mind and weaved a tale both complex and intriguing. It left you wondering about the different motivations and thoughts that go through peoples' minds. There were graphic displays of the otherworldly, and the stories all seemed to come together nicely.
Matt Dymerski's work will leave you begging for more. I first read his work on Nosleep. I've never been disappointed by the sheer smoothness of the stories as they each lead the reader wherever Matt Dymerski wants them. It's as if one is being lured into a trap, and when the trap has been sprung, they're left wanting for more of the lure still. He leads the reader into a dark, sweet delusion that is both terrifying as it is gritty and real. It leaves you to wonder what truly is out there all around us?
Psychological Horror can't get any better. That's what I thought will running through this story. It just gets under your skin. And by the time you get to the final lines, you know, you seriously know, that you have read something that is exceptionally rare.
Psychosis. This is the title story and the first one as we start this book and let me say it did not disappoint. I loved how this story played on the first person perspective, it really got under my skin and made me think and question a lot of things... The ending got me as well, I wasn't expecting anything about this story it was full of twists.
The Bone Walker. Again, this was another good one. It was completely different to the previous story but it still grabbed my attention in the exact same way. The story was cleverly done and as it was written from the first person it allowed us to feel a deeper connection with our main character, perfect for the story...
The Fire of the Soul. Wow, this was just amazing. Admittedly, at points I did get a little confused but everything came together and I just I'm speechless. The writing was excellent, the story was excellent, bravo.
Come Closer. This one was very short and sweet compared to the others but that doesn't mean it didn't get under my skin like the rest of them... This one definitely scared me a little bit!
Scribblings. I found this one to be more intriguing than scary, which disappointed me a little bit. It definitely grabbed my attention from the start and I just HAD to keep reading to find out what was going on. The writing in this story was excellent and really lent itself to the content of the story.
The Lodge. Another short and sweet one that I loved and one that genuinely terrified me. It had a real creepypasta vibe to it, which I think is what scared me the most!
Correspondence. I found this one really hard to read and I couldn't get through it very easily with the way the story was laid out. I'm still not clear on the plot either...
Strangers In a Graveyard. Ahhh I loved this one, my only criticism is that it wasn't any longer! It featured one of my biggest fears (graveyards) and that definitely made it feel super creepy for me.
The Lonely Grave. Once I realised this was a follow on from the previous story I had chills. I was so scared by this one, just everything about it got under my skin, the atmosphere was excellent.
The Basement. I loved this one, the story was very cleverly written to make you feel the fear of our main character, it is as if you are in their shoes... I won't say too much so I don't give it away!
Erosion. DNFR.
Strange Things. I feel like this story had quite a few underdeveloped parts that made it lack the fear factor for me, which was disappointing as it could have been such a good story.
The Seven Horsemen of the Apocalypse. I didn't really get this one and how it fit into the book? It was weird and the ending didn't really make much sense at all. A real disappointing end for the book.
On the whole, the stories in this book did something that is quite difficult and that was to scare me and get under my skin so for that I applaud them! However, the last few stories were not on the same level as the earlier ones, which is such a shame.

A mixture of weird, creepy and scary short stories
13 short horror tales… some I DNF’d (❌). Others were pretty decent! See below for my summary 👇
1- Psychosis: Sometimes a bit hard to follow, but it was a mindfvck type of locked room horror. 2- The Bonewalker: Creepy!!! I enjoyed it. 3- The Fire of the Soul: Hard to follow, skipped it. ❌ 4- Come Closer: Very short, but a good little creepy horror. 5- Scribblings: Hard to follow, skipped it. ❌ 6- The Lodge: Creepy!!!! That ending!! 7- Correspondence: Hard to follow, skipped it. ❌ 8- Strangers in a Graveyard: horror movie aficionados decide to have their 3rd date at a very remote graveyard at night, but terror surfaces when a strange truck arrives… 9- The Lonely Grave: Return to the remote Graveyard with a friend and they make an eerie discovery… 10- The Basement: This short story had my heart fluttering as I tried to hold my breath. Nothing like being in a basement at night while watching horror movies in an empty house and suddenly realize you’re not alone… 11- Erosion: felt like a creepy unsettling apocalypse 12- Strange Things: This one was just weird. 🤷🏼♀️ 13- The Seven Horsemen of the Apocalypse: I don’t think I can describe the weird irony of this one.
With short stories I often enjoy psychological and supernatural horror the most. So it’s not surprising my favorites were Psychosis, The Bonewalker, Scribblings, Correspondence and Erosion.
Psychosis-How can you tell when you’re being paranoid or if there is really something out to get you? The Bonewalker-There is risk when playing with blood magic. The Fire of the Soul-In a dystopian future one man looks for answers about the past. Come Closer-Be wary of suspicious strangers. Scribblings-How can a psychiatric patient be certain if they are cured or not? The Lodge-Be careful wandering around the basement of an old hunting lodge. Correspondence-Classified court case hoax or something sinister? Strangers in a Graveyard/The Lonely Grave-It is unwise to go playing in graveyards. The Basement-Remember to lock your doors at night. Erosion-If yellow fog seems unnatural trust your instincts. Strange Things-Are things unseen imaginary or dangerous? Seven Horsemen of the Apocalypse-An unusually funny take on how the world ends.
I will be honest, I was not scared by this book. It's interesting and some psychologically thrilling elements, but nothing about this was frightening to me. The vagueness of the "creepy monsters" is so uninspired that I found it mostly really boring...I think the writing was good, and I liked the style it was written, but I wasn't even that creeped out by it.
The book is really interesting and the stories are really thought-provoking, but not as scary as I was hoping! Still liked it.
Great collection .Each story held its own and as a fan of horror genre i loved the lighter touches within certain stories . Especially the last story about the seven horse men of the apocalypse . Too close to the truth with a great punchline . I will be looking forward to more books by Matt Dymerski
I'm an avid reader of Creepypasta and so I've seen a few of these stories in their infancy. I'm glad to see more. Good writing, unique stories, and a surprising little snicker at the end.
I found Matt on Reddit and have been completely sucked into his incredible multiverse for the past month. I cannot even express how well-written, intricate, and gripping his writing is, so please just read this and find out.
I liked the story overall. I didn't like the end story at all which soured it for me (especially the burst of comedy when Psychosis scared me so much), but it was a quick, enjoyable read.
I accidentally saw this on YT (Chilling Tales for Dark Nights) and wow it is the best thing that happened to me today! Listening to it elevated my reading experience. Now I’m scared….
i’m not gonna lie i listened to the creep cast episode and they only read Psychosis and not the other short stories, but the one they did read was fireeee. Eye horror, psychological horror, asylum horror, AND a supernatural twist are like crack to me🤤
A perfect companion for my sci-fi book. I had a hard time putting this one down. My favorite would be “Come Closer” (didn’t see the ending’s coming!) and the “Seven Horsemen of the Apocalypse”. So entertaining!
I absolutely loved it, a super collection of some very different stories, some gross, some scary and even a bad joke. I absolutely recommend this to everyone who likes horror short stories.
