This is the second volume of manga author Aki Shimizu's adaptation of Natsuhiko Kyogoku’s “Hyakki Yakou” series third novel, “Kyoukotsu no Yume” or “Dreams of Mad Bones”. It continues to build on the themes from earlier books like “Ubume no Natsu” and “Mouryou no Hako”, like crime, suspense, body horror, psychological trauma, and esoteric rituals.

The novel dealt with several topics like Buddhist sex rituals, a secret branch of the Japanese Imperial lineage, the repatriation of Japanese POWs from Soviet labor camps, and Freudian psychoanalysis. An eclectic mix indeed.

The second volume opens up with the current husband of the woman goes to meet the author at a funeral to seek his help. He tells him about his wife's problem & his perspective of what happened when he first met her. We also got to know about the mystery of bodiless heads that keep emerging around town.

In my opinion, this is where we can actually know whether whatever the woman said was true or not. It kinda grounded the pieces of information that we get so far.
