CANINE FAMILY - Animals play a huge part in Cherri and her husband's lives, as several German shepherds and one Great Pyrenees run foot-loose and fancy free through their hearts. Her dogs have inspired the themes in all her novels and short stories.
“The buzz of flies feasting, lay just ahead of us.” – Impact for Murder
Hurricane Matilda is bearing down on the small town of Hollow. In the ensuing chaos, local eccentric Tilley Bentley goes missing…
In this drama-cum-mystery, the author shows great insight into a small town under stress, with the first half of the story focussing on the hurricane’s aftermath. It’s not until the second half that body parts start turning up and the mystery ramps up.
Galbiati’s wonderful conversational writing style is better than ever, continuing to draw the reader in. Her characters are all larger than life, but it’s the sassy Callie Murphy who steals the show, followed a close second by her dogs, Yadar and Hannah.
This one isn't for me. It hasn't been properly proofread and it's all seems to be a little too comedic for my liking. For starters I'd no idea what Shop Smith was so had to Google it only to see it was written wrong and should've been Shopsmith anyway !! That was irritating right off the bat. Then Ida was inexplicably written as Ids, speechmarks were dropped and tic was spelt as tick. I'd only made it 5% in and seen enough, I'm afraid. I do like a good murder mystery but not with humour thrown in as a rule and this one was all too lighthearted for me.
Great characters working their way through a really interesting scenario - hurricane winds and rain, inland small town dynamics before, during, and after, and a murder or two (or three?). A bit of exaggeration in a couple personalities supply comic relief without silliness, and a twist at the end does a nice job of enhancing the basic mystery.
Lots of wrinkles, clean, funny in places, very human characters with characteristics exaggerated just a bit A very good read I found hard to put down when time for bed.
I have never read a more exciting book that held my interest. Humorous and serious all at once. Could not put the book down. I'm excited to read more from this Author.
