Looking for a new way to have fun playing with your bird buddy? Or is his nickname "Birdzilla" and you have the scars to prove it? Maybe your bird is a depressed little perch potato that refuses to play at all? This new way of training birds with a clicker and treats can dramatically change your bird's behavior and improve your life together.
Everything Melinda said makes so much sense! I can't believe I hadn't thought of things through her lens before. This is going to completely change how I interact with my budgie and my cockatiel. I intentionally powered through this book in one day, so I could jump right into training tomorrow! I definitely recommend this resd for any bird owners!!!
I picked up this book because my bird is friendly and clearly willing to learn, but is over zealous in his behaviors. This book has advice for owners of birds like mine, plus birds with behavior problems as well. Melinda Johnson explains in simple terms which training models work best and which ones will backfire on you. She even explains conditioning and how it will benefit your bird. I found it an extremely fun and informational read and I can't wait to start training my bird. I have no doubt that we'll be successful thanks to Johnson!
The only book of which I am aware, that covers both clicker training (positive reinforcement) and information specifically on birds/parrots, especially with regard to their behavior as prey animals.
If you have parrots and are going to buy only one book on them, buy this one.
