This unique book is the first volume in IQRA's series entitled Stories of the Sahabah as adapted by Mrs. Noura Durkee. This volume contains the biographies of twenty-one intimate Sahabah who were promised their place in Paradise. A more famous Hadith on this subject promises Jannah to ten Sahabah, popularly known as al-'Ashrah al-Mubashshirah. There are other traditions which mention the name of other Sahabah and Sahabiyat who were promised Jannah in their life time or soon after their death. We believe that all the Sahabah of Rasulullah e will enter Jannah; in this volume, we have included only those chosen ones who heard the good news from the Prophet e himself.
I enjoyed the book for its stories and beautiful descriptions of the Sahaba. I wasn't the biggest fan of the writing style because it could be unclear at times and there isn't always a clear sequence of ideas.
This book seems to be primarily aimed at younger audiences. It provides brief snippets of lives of companions of the Prophet PBUH. The kindle version had some mistakes but not factual mistakes. Overall a good read for adolescents.
The book caught my attention with it's beautiful cover. The author has written quick biographical sketches of twenty-one sahaba of the prophet. This is a good resource for "Sahaba 101." Having said that, I feel that similar content is available about the sahaba on sound Islamic websites. I found one glaring error in the book when the author stated that on one occasion, Az-Zubair Ibn Al-Awwam was told by the prophet that "may my father and mother be sacrificed for you." This contradicts an earlier incident where the author states that such an honor was reserved for Sa'ad bin Abi Waqqas alone, another companion of the prophet.
My last comment should be taken in the light of constructive criticism, and in the next edition, the author may perhaps make improvements in her book.
Ma sha Allah for this beautiful introduction to the Sahabah. The book gets five stars from me because it does exactly what it intends to do. It introduces and tells important stories of the 21 Sahabah Promised Paradise during the time of the Prophet Muhammad. While this book is not sophisticated, it does make clear why each and every servant of Allah presented in it deserve the blessings promised. I would recommend this book to young adult Muslims or those who have recently converted, in sha' Allah.
