I got a copy of this book through Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

Okay to be perfectly honest when I requested to review this book I did not realize this would be Christian romance. It usually doesn't bother me. I have read a few Christian Fictions before where it was pretty laid back, just a nice clean read. This one had a bit more overwhelming references in it, but I guess with a Christmas book it was kind of expected.

Anyway, overall just the general story-line was actually kind of cute. Two Turner children go up behind a waterfall to make a Christmas wish, the children want a mother. So when Lana shows up in the house next door, with brown hair (the boy wished for a mother with brown hair) the kids automatically assume that God had sent her to them in response.

Lana was a party girl with attitude problems growing up in Whisper Falls. Coming back from Nashville with her sister's child wasn't an easy feat. Especially when she believes that the people of Whisper Falls will never forgive her for being a destructive teenage. Meeting Davis Turner, her neighbor across the street, she had half expected the man to bail on her and never look back. Instead, he offers to help her clean up and fix her house. Unfortunately not everyone in Whisper Falls can forgive her or can look past her troubled past, can Lana still turn a new page?

I liked Lana... I thought she did have a rough life and I was glad she turned a new chapter in her life. She is taking care of her twin sister's child that she took with her out of Nashville because her mother is suffering from drug abuse and I loved the connection between her and the little girl.

I thought her and Davis got along pretty well and the romance was really cute for the holiday season.

I wanted to know what Lana did to Davis' sister that she wouldn't stop being so nasty to her without learning how the new Lana really is. I mean... I'm sure there are plenty of people who have made a mistake or two as a teenager. It seems unfair to have it follow them as an adult. Especially since people change.

What I didn't like is that Davis sometimes lacked faith in Lana. I hate how he automatically assumed the worse in some of the stuff that she had said. Especially when he asked her about who Sydney's father is and his reaction to her answer. Or when Sydney accidentally let it slip that they lived in a car at one point. Or the way he reacted when he found out the truth about Lana and Sydney and why she had not told him earlier. Uh...well maybe she was afraid that he would react the exact sane way that he did? I can't imagine it would have made a difference, especially with what was going through his mind with the first two incidents.

Anyway, the ending was pleasant. Happily Ever After type style. Thought I was on the fence with this book. I did enjoy it, despite some of the stuff listed above. It was a good Christmas read and I am sure that there are a lot that will enjoy it despite the small issues that I myself had with it.

I loved coming back to this community. The snack shack was still there! Reminder how integral I am to the community around us. What a great story of overcoming fears for others. Blessings abound for the one who has his neighbors needs in mind!

“SUGARPLUM HOMECOMING” by Linda Goodnight is the 3rd book in the Whisper Falls series. It’s the story of Davis Turner and Lana Ross. They had attended school together, but life took them on very different paths just to bring them full circle to finally find each other.

Lana was one of the Ross girls – the twins with the bad reputations. Coming from a very dysfunctional family with a mother with mental problems and a father that left, acting out or getting in trouble was the most natural thing to happen. With a voice big as all outdoors, Lana left for Nashville with her sister as soon as they could. Things seemed to go from bad to worse until Lana hit rock bottom – bottom of the bottle that is. Finally finding peace in God’s message, she was determined to live a better life. After authorities threatened to put her niece in foster care and finding out she had inherited her folk’s home, she packed up and took off for a town she had run from and a house she had hoped she would never set foot in again to become “Mom” to 9 year old Sydney. New beginning are hard to come by when folks won’t forget or forgive – no matter how much you have changed.

Davis was the all-American boy – well liked, top in school and sports, well thought of. He was raised in a loving home with Christian values. He’s now a widower with two young children happy and content with his life thinking that his love life died with his precious wife. Nathan, 9 years old, and her younger brother, Nathan, have other plans. Taking the tales of answered prayers at Whisper Falls to heart, they did the deed and said the prayers for a new Mom for Christmas – a brown haired Mom to be exact. When they all run into Lana and find out that their Dad already knew her, they are sure that their prayers have been answered – hair color and all. They begin plotting – along with Sydney – to make it happen.

Can two unlikely adults from different backgrounds actually have the same wants and desires? Can Davis get over Lana’s past, disregard people’s warnings, and forgive her omissions and follow his heart’s longing? Can Lana learn to believe in herself and think herself worthy of a real relationship and family? Will she ever be able to sing again finding that the only strength she needs is the support of loved ones? Can she really be at home in Whisper Falls? Can they all become a happy family of five?

Linda Goodnight wrote a wonderful Christian romance when she wrote “SUGARPLUM HOMECOMING” that will touch your heart and give your faith a boost. She will have you reaching for the tissue and leave you smiling. It’s a story of second chances, forgiveness, including ourselves, and reminding us not too judge for there is only one that has that job - and he is full of love for us. I would recommend this book to anyone because I can’t think of anyone that wouldn’t love it as much as I did.

Davis's sister was just vile. She was raised in a loving, Christian home.
Rather than having Grace, she chose to create a hostile environment for Lana, even at church.
With a sick child at home, you would think that she had more important things
to worry about. The woman was poison.

Lana grew up in an abusive household. She didn't come to Christ until she hit rock bottom.
She had to deal with having her past actions tossed back at her at every opportunity.

Davis may have seemed like a decent guy compared, to what Lana was used to, but his actions
spoke volumes. His accusations and judgements were awful. They were proof that Lana was right
to be afraid to be vulnerable with him.

Lana deserved better than Davis.

A touching story of a woman trying to give her niece a better life than she and her sister had growing up in Whisper Falls. She meets a man from her past in high school with 2 children. The three children want God to give them their wish for Christmas in the form of the adults falling in love and marrying. Unfortunately having been one of the wild twins she has to convince people she has changed her life because she has become a Christian. A must read if you want to enjoy a wonderful love story and 3 adorable children praying for a happy ending.

The first story by Linda Goodnight I've read, but I hope it won't be the last. For starters, I wouldn't mind reading the other books in this series (Whisper Falls). Decent people with real quirks and flaws fill this story with emotion. The happy ending is not surprise, and maybe a little over the top, but isn't that what we want in a book like this?

Coming Home

Caleb Mast was coming home with a surprise. Caleb had left many years ago after a huge misunderstanding. He had left the plain life and married an English girl but life still had not turned out like he expected. Must read to find out the truth.

Paige Turner, almost ten, and her eight-year-old brother Nathan know the legend of their hometown Whisper Falls, Arkansas: prayers whispered behind the falls are always answered. They have a really important request of God, so when their widower dad falls asleep on a family picnic, they take the challenging climb to the special spot and ask God to send them a new mom, one with brown hair like their first mom, and preferably by Christmas.

Lana Ross left Whisper Falls, back when the town was still Millersville and before the legend brought a name change and crowds of tourists. An eighteen-year-old party girl the small town expected to come to a bad end, she had dreams of hitting it big as a country singer and headed for Nashville as soon as she could legally leave home. Thirteen years later, she has returned to the house where she and her twin sister Tess grew up, a house haunted by memories darker than the haunted house tales the local kids tell to frighten themselves. The house her mother left to Lana and Tess is one of the reasons Lana has returned. Owning the house gives her a head start on giving nine-year-old Sydney the stable life she needs and deserves.

But memories are long in small towns. Lana knows that God has forgiven her mistakes, but she also knows human creatures are not so merciful. Some people don’t believe in second chances, and Lana has secrets to protect. Davis Turner proves himself a good neighbor, but Lana’s fears, Davis’s pride, and the relentless prejudices of some Whisper Falls residents threaten the new relationship that is developing between the two. Lana and Davis both must discover that God is bigger than all their fears and flaws before they can claim the happiness waiting for them

This is a tender story, the third in Goodnight’s Whisper Fall series, all of which center on the theme of a new life after an old one filled with bad choices. It is a Love Inspired book, so the Christian faith of the characters is central to their experience and to the story. But the story of a woman who turns her life around and the “Mr. Upright and Righteous” who discovers how far short he falls of his own standards is one that will touch hearts of readers regardless of whether they share that faith. The three kids are endearing without being unbearably cute and precocious, and the town is a believable mix of good people, small-minded people, and people who are a contradictory mix of the admirable and the deplorable.

My Review: Sugarplum Homecoming

4 stars

Parents should never sleep especially during the day when kids will climb anything. That would be scary to see your kids climb rocks to a waterfall. Nathan and Page got their dad to take them on a picnic by the falls. So while he slept they could climb up the rocks and get behind waterfall and say a special prayer. They want a new mom with brown hair.

Sugarplum is sweet, laughed so hard when Davis told how he scared some teenagers that breaking into her haunted house. Made me think about how I am judging people because of their past ways. Others are just embracing everyone.

Lana and her twin sister Tess where known to party, drink and sing. Lana was going to be a star. Now she is back home where all the bad memories are. She has given up singing and drinking to give Sydney a home.

Lana has to face her past and fears instead of running away for Sydney. She has a job writing for the local papers. The activities of town like high school games, festivals and other town activities.

When Nathan and Page see Lana movie in with a girl close their age they think the special prayer worked.

Davis remembers her from school and has to decides what is best for his kids.
Davis sister was never her friend and talks bad about her in front of kids. Spreads gossip about how she was 10+ years ago.

Sugarplum is a fun romance. I liked the kids and how the adults characters cared about them and their relationships with each other.

I want to go back to Whisper falls and find out how all the characters are doing.

I was given this ebook to read and in return agreed to give honest review of it.

My thoughts:

"The jig was up. She'd prayed to get settled before her tainted past charged in with all guns blazing. Apparently, God, Who'd brought her this far, expected her to face her fears head-on."

Sugarplum Homecoming features a reformed bad girl, and I enjoyed the twist from the typical bad-boy hero in most inspy's. Lana has returned to Whisper Falls hoping to give Sydney a stable home, but she worries that the small town won't let the past stay there. And Davis? Considering his children's welfare, the single dad's not all that happy Lana moved into his neighborhood. And he definitely doesn't welcome the tug of attraction to the beautiful singer, the one that left his small town, hoping to make it big in Nashville. But she's changed.

"You're not Lana Ross, the drunk party girl. You're Lana Ross, child of the Most High, cleansed by a sacrifice far greater than singing in front of hundreds of people."

Don't you just love that? You see, Lana suffered from stage fright, believing that the only way she'd been able to sing on stage in front of an audience was after downing a bottle of gin. When an opportunity arises to raise money for a surgery that Davis's nephew needs, she must decide if God is bigger than her fears.

Sugarplum Homecoming is a fast read, the perfect size to curl up with on a lazy evening after holiday shopping or a stressful day on the job. The plot's not too complicated, and the gentle message warms you all the way to your tummy. In one word, relaxing. :)

Whisper Falls
Book 3

You can't get much cuter than three little kids who want to get their parents together! Two strong, well-developed characters and three children make this a very good book! Though Davis Turner is your typical character - widowed with two kids and raised in a good home with two loving parents, Lana Ross is a different story. An abusive mom, an absent dad, and a dysfunctional childhood put her and her sister in troubled times. Lana came out of it after she found Jesus. She's moved back to Whisper Falls to make a life for her and Sydney.

There's not a lot of surprises in this book. You can pretty much figure out all Lana's secrets after reading the first couple of chapters - except one that's revealed pretty early on but was a huge shocker to me. I had to go back and re-read part of the book to see if perhaps I missed something, but I didn't. The secret plays out throughout the book and leads to trouble (of course) later on. But the story was sweet. The characters were strong. And the ending was wonderful.

"You are a child of the Most High God. You can do anything He says you can do. God is your strength..." This quote and many more like it are found thoughout the book.

This was a sweet romance. The lovey dovey stuff wasn't overdone. There was more substance to the story, than many of the stories I have been finding lately. Lana and her niece, Sydney have come to live in Lana's home town. Lana's mother has died, and she has terrible memories of her mothers abusive behavior to her and her twin sister. Lana and her sister had gone to Nashville to try to make it as singers. They had both gotten into drug or alcohol. Tess had had Sydney, and Lana had been the one raising her. Child welfare was about to take Sydney away from her mother, before Lana ran with her to her home town. Lana has to live down her reputation as a wild teenager. This is a story of redemption and love.

Sugarplum Homecoming was a very good book. Lana was a troubled teenager who left home with her twin sister as soon as they could. Lana wanted to be a singer and song writer. She could only sing when she was drinking. Lana and her niece moved back to her hometown. Letting people thing her niece was her daughter. Davis and his two children live down the street from her. He helps Lana fix up her old family house. Lots of history here. The children try to get the two adults together. Lana ends up writing a song and singing it to raise money to help a very sick little boy. A good read.

This story is from the Love Inspired Series so it has a strong Christian influence in the writing. It doesn't over take the book but is very noticeable. Lana was always the wild child and when she returns to her home town people can't believe she could change, after all she has a little girl with her and no husband. Slowly she makes friends and finds the man of her dreams, but will her past be too much for him to overlook?

This book was sweet. I love Lana and her strength. I wish communities like this actually existed. It did seem to have a little bit of that to "too good to be true" feel to it with the way the community ralleyed around Lana once her secret was out. But over all it was a sweet story and easy to read and was exactly what I was looking for!

I really enjoyed this latest installment of Whisper Falls! Linda Goodnight is such an amazing author!!

Sometimes reputations are hard to live up too, but they are equally hard to shake. What happens in high school should stay in high school.

This story is about replacing a bad reputation with a new life full of love and hope. Running scared takes time to overcome.

Good book - kept me reading

This is a good story that's well written. The biblical messages reflect my beliefs regarding forgiveness, change, and courage through Jesus Christ. The life problems presented in the book are real problems adults face, with real solutions based not on violence and hatred, but on forgiveness and love. Good job.
