David Hucaby, CCIE® No. 4594, is a lead network engineer for the University of Kentucky, where he works with healthcare networks based on the Cisco Catalyst, IP Telephony, PIX, and VPN product lines. David was one of the beta reviewers of the PIX version 7 Firewall operating system software.
Like most cisco books this was too very informative. Truth be told. This book is not full of best practices and recommended course of actions. This book is filled with all the possibilities that may or may not happen in real world production networks. However this book had gone into extreme details at places and made me start tear off my hair out of rage. LOL!!!
I wonder if cisco press books could become a little precise and more best practice oriented, just a little bit. If that could be the case than the people who opted for certification would feel more at home and learn the tried and tested way of securing and verifying a network.
A great experience! I had virtual ASA's to play with while studying for this and I really gave it my all! It was a really good time, as this really went over a lot of fundamental ideas and application. 5 out of 5 for a first policy based firewall book to read!
This is a great book for acquiring the 642-618 cert. I was successful in getting my cert and you should have no problems if you can find a way to stay awake and keep grinding through the pages.
Written in a very good way and full of a very good experience. It is not a must for the exam, you know what is needed for the exam, but it is very valuable for firewall experience.
