This book succeeds in entertaining as well as informing young people about the Romans and their culture. A great way to learn about history.

I take my words back.
Having read the first installment in the series and then the third, I had formed the opinion that it is indeed true, that Tim Collins grows bored after the first installment and somehow just wants to complete the series somehow.
A good, satisfactory and informative read.

Geleend in de schoolbibliotheek door Lennard (11), maar kon niet laten het zelf ook even in te zien.
Dus las ik vanochtend, in amper 3 kwartier, deze Romeinse variant op de welbekende Loser-boeken.
Nurdius Maximus (vrij vertaald "Grote nerd"), 12 jaar oud, wil een heuse Romeinse held zijn maar doet helaas zijn naam eer aan.
Grappig verhaal dat en passant ook een inkijkje geeft in het Romeinse leven en, in dit boek, een stukje geschiedenisles over het beleg van Alexandrië (Ptolemaeus XIII vs Cleopatra en Julius Ceasar)
Te lezen vanaf pakweg groep 7, maar waarschijnlijk vooral leuk voor degene die ook op school met de Romeinen bezig zijn (bijv brugklas VWO)

Tal como já tinha acontecido com "Bananus Maximus", terminei este livre em menos de um dia.
Quanto mais lia, mais queria ler e a forma como está escrito (diário) ajudou imenso na rápida leitura.
Em "Bananus Maximus e os Egípcios", Bananus parte em viagem com Júlio César e o seu criado Lino para Alexandria com o objetivo de persuadir Ptolomeu - o arrogantezinho e idiota faraó - a pagar a dívida a Roma. Quando não o consegue, traz de volta Cleópatra (que estava no exílio) para que Júlio César se apaixone por ela e a declare como verdadeira faraó.
Mais uma vez, Tim Collins encontrou uma forma divertida e rápida de ensinar um pouco de história aos mais pequenos.
Adorei!

This is the second book in the series where Dorkius goes on the trip to Egypt he won in the previous book. Whilst he's there, things don't go as planned - he is sick all over Julius Caesar several times, his slave Linos isn't fascinated with the great pyramids, only with the washing of clothes, which he washes in wee! Urgh! But one thing was good - Dorkius's mum's pet fortune chickens ate their grain, which meant Dorkius was allowed on the trip!
Like the previous book, this book was full of humour, especially when Dorkius's mum has her fortune chickens predict whether or not Dorkius should go to the shops and buy a scroll! This book was a nice, easy read!

In het Nederlands: Het dagboek van Nurdius Maximus in Egypte.
Nurdius is echt een loser, een Romeinse wel te verstaan. Eigenlijk is Nurdius een vervelend ventje, maar het verhaal leest zo makkelijk en is zo absurd dat je wilt blijven lezen.
Ongemerkt krijg je een heel stuk geschiedenis mee. Leven van een loser voor nerds?
Nurdius is echt een loser, een Romeinse wel te verstaan. Eigenlijk is Nurdius een vervelend ventje, maar het verhaal leest zo makkelijk en is zo absurd dat je wilt blijven lezen.
Ongemerkt krijg je een heel stuk geschiedenis mee. Leven van een loser voor nerds?

Caesar arrived and climbed up the tower. He was wearing his armour and the laurel wreath he uses to disguise his baldness. At least, he thinks it disguises his baldness. It actually makes him look like a baldy with leaves on his head. But he's so powerful, no one dares tell him.

This book is very fun you guys must try to read it. Not hard not easy but......FUN!!!
