The Knowing the Bible series is a new resource designed to help Bible readers better understand and apply God’s Word. Each 12-week study leads participants through one book of the Bible and is made up of four basic (1) Reflection questions designed to help readers engage the text at a deeper level; (2) “Gospel Glimpses” highlighting the gospel of grace throughout the book; (3) “Whole-Bible Connections” showing how any given passage connects to the Bible’s overarching story of redemption culminating in Christ; and (4) “Theological Soundings” identifying how historic orthodox doctrines are taught or reinforced throughout Scripture. With contributions from a wide array of influential pastors and church leaders, these gospel-centered studies will help Christians see and cherish the message of God’s grace on each and every page of the Bible.
The book of Romans was Paul’s greatest literary achievement, a majestic letter in which the apostle expounds on crucial doctrines such as original sin, election, substitutionary atonement, the role of the law, and justification by faith alone. Plumbing the theological depths, Jared Wilson writes with a pastor’s eye toward understanding and application as he explains the biblical text with clarity and passion, helping readers follow along as Paul recounts the history of salvation and illuminates the glories of the cross of Christ.
Jared C. Wilson is the Director of Content Strategy for Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Managing Editor of For The Church (ftc.co), and Director of the Pastoral Training Center at Liberty Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri. He is the author of numerous books, including "Gospel Wakefulness," "The Prodigal Church," and, most recently, "The Imperfect Disciple." Wilson blogs regularly at gospeldrivenchurch.com, hosted by The Gospel Coalition and is a frequent speaker at conferences and churches around the world.
I started this study in 2015, in addition to another study in Romans that my church started. I lost this study and going through the books on my kindle found it recently. I hadn't done too much so I picked up where I left off.
You want to learn about the book of Romans, this is a good basic bible study. Romans can be hard to understand for some so I would recommend you start here.
Very thankful to have used this study as a guide to reading Romans. It challenged me to look deeper into Paul’s letter to the Roman church & has helped me to grow in contextual knowledge & theological soundings throughout the letter. If you ever want to study Romans I recommend using this study as well as the Romans for You books!
“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written,
“For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
there were parts of the study i loved esp towards the end- some of the questions felt like a very mature Sunday school vibe- and the set up of some of the earlier chapters felt a little choppy. but good study and decently digestible considering Romans can feel dense with content!
I thought the study on Romans was good. I have to agree with other reviews that some of the questions were repetitive. The pace of the study was too fast for the many concepts that were discussed in Romans. Sometimes, the author skipped important parts. I didn't find the sections at the end of each chapter under personal implications : Gospel Glimpses, Whole-Bible Connections, and Theological Soundings very helpful. I often just skipped this part. That is the reason for giving this study a three star rating.
We used this book as a guide for a study of Romans in our community group. Provides a nice overview of Romans, with some helpful notes for each chapter. The "gospel glimpses," whole-Bible connections, and "theological soundings" gave the study some depth without overpowering the reader with details.
I wanted to like this study book, but it didn’t do much for me. Some of the questions it asked seemed off topic and/or oddly specific. Definitely not a study accessible to newer believers. I was hoping for practical ways to understand and apply Romans, but this book didn’t have what I was looking for. 🤷🏻♀️
The book of Romans has been an incredible read from start to finish, beggining to end, alpha to omega. God is amazing from the beginning of our time to eternity.
Jared Wilson is great write and Bible teacher. He does an amazing job leading you through the book Romans in this study. This is great for personal study or to be used in a small group.
