I really liked the way the author developed the relationships between the women and the personal growth of each character. I would recommend this book to any woman. It addresses all stages of womanhood from young love, marriage, being a daughter, mom, or caretaker of a mom. It shows how strong bonds of friendship and faith in God can change a whole community.
Sister Belles: A Story of Growth, Healing, and love
I was drawn to this book because the summary compared it to Steel Magnolias, a movie I loved. But this book is even better. I truly wish I could be a part of a group like this, praying for others, and healing one another. Each woman in this story faced at least the possibility, if not the fact, of loss and grief. But because of the fellow members of the group, they all found healing and peace. I would recommend this book to anyone who has ever been a part of such a group or who has had a woman in their life who acted as a sister, mother, or best friend. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I have and pass it on.
This book quickly became a favorite. The women are REAL. Although it is about a prayer group, religion isn't shoved in your face. Instead, these women live what they believe. It's about friendship and loss and commitment. It's about making a difference. And these women do. Do yourself a favor. Read this book. If you liked Steel Magnolias, you will LOVE the Sister Belles. More please!
I enjoyed this book. It warmed my heart that 4 (or more) ladies could come together for the express purpose of praying for others' needs on a weekly basis. I wish there was a tradition in my town like that. As their individual stories unfold, the book becomes more and more interesting. It was one of those books that I wish did not end.
This is a character-driven novel. Yes, there is some romance, but that's almost beside the point. It's a story of grief, and forgiveness, and moving on, and . . . decadent desserts! You like these women and identify with them. You want to get to know them better. You root for them.
Sister Belles is a story worth reading. It tells of a group of southern women, not at first knowing one another, do through praying together for their community come to become friends. I thoroughly enjoyed the development of their prayer circle over the course of the year they were committed to being Sister Belles.
Quick and friendly. Great read for a book addict like me, but it didn't stand out as amazing writing, or as an outstanding story-line. It did draw me in, as I wish there were a similar connection in my home church or town. But the characters were so stereotyped, that I don't think such a thing could exist in the "real world."
Four women volunteer to pray for their community for a year. That commitment blessed those they prayed for but not nearly as much as they were blessed themselves. I know I was certainly blessed from reading about them. Thank you so much Miss Jones for painting such a beautiful picture of compassion, companion, forgiveness, and sisterly love.
This was a very interesting story. Rose, Gayle, Naomi and Lucy will become this years prayer circle. This may be the final circle after 60 years. Each will find strength, peace and happiness in this year of service. This is a wonderful book that will leave you happy you read it.
This was a wonderful read to start the new year off (2016). I am inspired to work on being a better person, because of the characters in this novel. The characters are human beings who have issues ,just as we all do. I would not have handled many of those issues in the same way, but it helps to see faith grow and put into action. Good work.
The tradition in New Bethany to have prayer circles is dying out. Some ladies come together to create what they think will be the last prayer circle. They learn to get along and help each other through crisis.
This book came at a time when I really needed it. It talks about our struggles and wavering faith. Then it gives hope and reassurance that God doesn't change. A good read
Did you ever read a book thinking it would make a good movie? That's how I felt about this one. It was Christian lit, to be sure, but it wasn't preachy. I enjoyed the characters and the story.
This book was ok - it had so much potential to be a 5-star read, but something was lacking. I can't quite put my finger on what it was, but that special something was missing. A quick, friendly read.
Thank you for this Wonderful story of Faith, Life, Love and laughter. The Women are real. Doing there best and I enjoyed every tear I cried while reading this book.
I liked that the women all had different strengths and weaknesses. Through the power of prayer and Faith in the Lord, issues were resolved. Great story line.
