Quick review for a quick read.

In three words: too easily resolved. I think the suspension of disbelief really did fly out the window in this installment. This part of the serial novel asked me to overlook one too many transgressions on the part of the heroine and hero both, and I just couldn't get behind that at all.

So, Rafe/Storm found out about Melanie's rendezvous, somehow forgave Travis for his pursuit of Melanie and Travis forgave Storm because he found out Storm was really a billionaire named Rafe who got back in good terms with his brother. Not only that, somehow Melanie ends up having sexy times not with the one guy she ultimately chooses, but all THREE of them for experimentation.

Um...there's something really wrong/convenient with this picture. I do not understand where point A in the narration suddenly said "Screw B" and jumped to point C for this resolution. It was haphazardly drawn and too convenient. I understand drawing fantasies, but this was ridiculous for the way it was sequenced, and I just...I couldn't get behind the narrative for that - for character motivations, logic in the scenario, or even just the reasons given for such a thing to occur.

I don't know if part of these flaws are because of the serial itself or if it's Carew's narrative style. I may try another of her full stories to see how they match up, but I'm not impressed with this first serial novel I've read from her. This series could've been a lot better, but settled for being derivative, cliche, and quite comparably dry for the genre, despite some steamy scenes and some very few moments of good rapport between the characters. In the end, I was very disappointed.

This isn't the last book in the series, but I can't be bothered to read any more here even with one more part to go. It's just too contrived.

Overall score: 0.5/5 stars

Note: I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, from the publisher St. Martin's Press.

This one was even more unbelievable than the last installment. Rafe/Storm/Mr.Ranier aka Mr.Hannah Montana finally joined the tour. Yeah, and guess what? The band just took him without any questions and they're back to playing music together.

Melanie is finally happy and the little incident that happened in the previous book is resolved too conveniently for my taste. Mr.Hannah Montana not only forgave her but gave her permission to I didn't like that at all. Melanie went from being this shy girl and a wallflower to a gangbang goddess is just too unbelievable. :(

His To Claim: Parts 1-5 by Opal Carew

This is a series of novellas. I have read parts 1-5. The sixth part is not out yet and this series has cliffhangers.

Rafe is a musician and it really is a balm to his soul. The band has just made it big but he has decided to go home to help his brother run their corporation. That's right, he's a billionaire too. He muscled, tattooed and sexy.while he was back home at his company, he had an assistant named Melanie. She was invaluable to him at work. She left because she harbored feelings for him she knew he'd never return. She's a bit of a free spirit and really wants to be an artist. Rafe never knew the the reason for her leaving.

He missed Melanie and went to see her at her new job as a barista. When he sees her,he finally really sees her and he wants her. Melanie is apprehensive but thrilled with the knowledge that Rafe wants her. She's loved him for so long and now her dreams coming true. She doesn't trust it but she's more than willing to go along for the ride. Rafe's been fooled by love before and tells himself he wants a fling only.

I wavered back and forth with how I felt about the book while reading it. I liked it, then I didn't,then I did and then I didn't. The character's fault irritated me a lot of the time. Melanie was insecure, unsure of how to get what she wanted and tempted by other men. She even let them kiss her! Rafe was untrusting sometimes thoughtless. I mean the sex was hot, the chemistry was good but the story was just so-so. Will I come back for part six? Only if I get it for free.

Warning for the less adventurous readers: this series contains a foursome.

parts 1-5 read and reviewed together

in the His to Claim series, Opal Carew has provided another fun, sexy, easy to read story. following on from the His to Possess series, this one follows Melissa & Rafe. as always, there's the ups and downs of a new (maybe) relationship, with plenty of hot chemistry between them.

only trouble is, I only have ARC's for the first 5 parts & now I'm left hanging, at a critical moment in the story, waiting impatiently for the last instalment to get to the HEA! well, there better be a HEA in there anyway!! :)

The main reason for the low rating for the simple fact the h had a three men having unprotected sex with her at the same time and there was "no pull-out". That's crazy I get it was the H and his two best friends and it was the h fantasy but that was not the smart or safe way to go about it

Title: Breaking Storm
Author: Opal Carew
Publisher/Year: St Martin Press 6/24/14
Length: 31 Pages
Series: His to Claim #5

Overview

Rafe Ranier was my boss and secret crush. A rock musician by night and head of a billion dollar empire by day, Rafe could have any woman he wanted. But I was just the shy secretary he never noticed. For years I obsessed over him, until I finally realized I had to walk away. I needed to break from the secure life I’d always known to discover who I really was.

I never expected Rafe to follow me.

Now I’m on the road with his band, Savage Kiss, and all my secret fantasies are coming true. But I fear I’ve made a huge mistake, because if I get any more attached to a man I can never truly have, my heart will be broken beyond all repair.

My Thoughts

Our journey continues with Rafe/Storm now on tour, but the question is what will happen to this couple now that they are together, yet they have so much temptation - or at least Melanie does.

This installment takes us to a hot place - where we see encounters of passion happen that were never expected and yet so welcome. The problem though is that it makes thoughts/feelings come up for Rafe that he's not prepared for and it could be detrimental to the relationship and even his friendship with the band.

Also, what this brings to the forefront is that he and Travis never had it out with each other after Storm left Jessica, so that's something that we see confronted here as well. The ending of this 5th - CLIFF HANGER! . i guess my assumption that it was the final book was wrong - since i see that there's a 6th - i just don't have my hands on the ARC yet and it doesn't come out til July so i don't know what i'm going to do. Where Ms. Carew left us is a tense place - someone's gone missing, there are unsettled feelings among the band and the couple, and i'm not sure what the resolution will be. Enjoy!

4.5 BECK AND CALL STARS

DANG!!!... is all I can say. What a fantasy fulfilled and where can I find those guys :D?

When Storm aka Rafe shows up on the tour to find Melanie in a room with a bunch of guys and Travis about to take off his pants, he's pissed off. But Melanie explains that what he saw wasn't really what he thought. Storm believes her until and drunken Diego, spills the beans. This prompts Storm to realize that he needs to feed Melanie's desire to set herself free and explore he wild side.

Storm sets up an unbelievable night for her, which prompts him to start thinking about what he really wants from a relationship with her. Melanie perceives this as him pulling away and deciding he doesn't want a relationship with her. But something happens to bring everything to a halt.

Yum!

I still don't understand how a guy could want to marry a girl who had been intimate with his brother, as Jessica is marrying Dane. That totally freaks me out. LOL

It was well written, not too much but just enough. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because it's a novella and I wanted more story before it ended.

Glad to see I was right in my assumption that this installment would lead to more sex.

I won't lie, it was pretty hot (actually that alone earned 1 star). But totally predictable.

One thing I've noticed and tried to ignore as I've read the previous installments is that nothing is ever fully explored, every conflict is easily resolved and the characters' lives adjust to any situation.

The sun is shinning, the birds are singing and everything is beautiful. How very convenient!

And I guess that is my greatest hurdle with this serial--everything comes too easily.

Melanie wants Rafe--OK!
Rafe wants a no-strings attached affair--OK!
Melanie wants to leave her life behind and go on the road--OK!
Travis and Diego want to get it on with Melanie--OK!
Rafe wants to tour with the band--OK!
Melanie needs Rafe to forgive her--OK!
Melanie wants to explore her attraction to Travis and Diego--OK!

But then the ONE thing, the very thing that would have stopped all this nonsense from the very beginning, now THAT is not viable. If Rafe had given the woman's ass some spanking, maybe all of this drama could have been avoided. Just sayin'!

Pfffft!

Dreams can come true but they may come with consequences.

Wow, I have to say that the fifth installment has been the best. I could not believe the amount of things that happened in this book. I could not believe Storm’s reaction when he heard what happened between Diego and Travis with Melanie. I know it was only a kiss but I would have thought he would have gone He-Man on both of them. Melanie said something that she regretted but most of all Storm found out that Melanie had been thinking about him no matter the circumstance. Now the best part was when Melanie’s fantasy became reality but Storm had a hard time with it afterwards. I know that deep down inside he is a dominate man but his past is still interfering in his present. He needs to come to terms with that before he loses the woman that he loves.

I can’t believe that there is only one more installment left in His to Claim. I can’t believe where Ms. Carew left the fifth installment. I can’t wait to see what happened with Storm and will he finally be able to tell Melanie that he loves her.

I recommend ten times fold this read to all readers that love badboys and of course a good erotic romance story.

Thank you to Net Galley for providing me with a copy

So five novella's in now to the His to Claim series and it is definitely hotting up, at the end of #4 we had found out that Melanie whilst unsure what was happening with her and Storm/Rafe had kissed both Travis and Diego two members of Savage Kiss.

Amazingly enough Storm seems ok about it once he discovers that Melanie has been drawing pictures of him over and over again to help her through the days without him.

Storm decides the best thing to do since Melanie is obviously attracted to the other two guys is to give her a night she will never forget, she gets to experience a foursome, if you are in anyway prudish or not comfortable with this sort of thing avoid!

After an unforgettable night Melanie is worried in case Storm is unhappy about what happened but he still seems on the surface to be ok that is until he disappears off and doesn't come back.

I am by no means a prude but I think I enjoyed the earlier books more as there was more story and less sex but hey it is a good quick read and if you like your books hot and steamy then this is for you.

My review of the final instalment #6 very soon.

(Review for parts 1-5) I will admit before I have read a Opal Carew book and so disliked it that I did not Finnish it. However I take each book at its own merits, but I wanted to be honest. I am enjoying this book and was irked that I didn't realize there was 6 parts so I am still waiting to finish it. I have enjoyed the variety of scenes in the books and I love the break down in the parts. I could read the book cover to cover, but I love it being broken down for me, so I do not have to decide where to end for the night. Storm (aka Rafe) is a business suited rock guitarist. Melanie used to be his personal assistant, but left her job to pursue her art. Now that they no longer work together, things are allowed to get hot and heated between the two, but will Storm be able to live with what he and Melanie both want out of a relationship?

As I said, I am enjoying the the book and am desperate to finish it, but there are times when I think the caliber in writing could be better. Some word choices and phrasing seem highschoolish, overused. But overall, it is much better than the first book I ever tried to read by this author.

In the fifth "chapter" of His to Claim, the readers finally get to see some erotic action- action which has been promised but not delivered upon until now.
Storm/Rafe has joined the band on tour to be with Melanie, but a drunken Diego- the guitarist, lets slip that while he was gone, Melanie had kissed both Diego and Travis. Storm was angry, but he realized that Melanie wanted adventure, and probably only held off having sex with the other men because of her feelings for him. So, he set up a foursome for Melanie, reasoning that if their relationship was meant to be, it would be.
So this book pretty much only focused on Storm coming back and the foursome between Storm, Diego, Travis and Melanie.
Apart from that scene being scorching hot, the rest of the story was again, just blah. Not really sure what the plot of this story is, or, more accurately, the point. It seems that the author had this amazing idea in her head, but just can't seem to put her idea down into words that anyone will want to read about.
Hoping the sixth and final book clears things up, and is more interesting than the first five.

ARC from Netgalley.

The story of this series focuses on Rafe, alter ego called Storm, and Melanie. He used to he her multimillionaire boss but she left when it got too painful that her feelings for him were not reciprocated. All the time he didn't know how she felt. When not a CEO he's lead guitarist in a rock band.
The characters are shallow and dull, nothing about them excites or intrigues me. Striving to attract attention the author combines in one man two popular popular male lead roles, millionaire and rock star but without success; he's so empty. The plot is virtually non existent & feels like just a building block to link unimpressive sex scene to sex scene. (*Empty plot, he feels groin twinge, she leaps on him, he expresses expletives to show excitement, post coital glow*, repeat * to * for 5 books)
I finished books 1 & 2 but books 3-5 were DNF (did not finish). This rarely happens, I usually will continue just to see how the story plays out and how characters develop but for the above reasons I was not interested this time.

Breaking Storm by Opal Carew is the fifth novella in her His To Claim series.

Holy Hot Rock Stars!!!! Storm is beginning to realize Melanies feelings towards him and is aware that even though she wants to find her "wild side" she is still true to him despite Travis and Diego's temptations.

In a show of faith in her and as an offering to help free her "wild side" Storm arranges for a night for all four of them... {Fans self}!

"She wants to find out who she really is. She wants to be free from rules."
Travis nodded. "And she wants you."
"Fuck, she wants you, too. And Diego."
Travis Grinned. Yeah, she does. But that's not an option."
Storm gazed at him, an idea taking shape in his brain. "I don't know about that. Maybe it is."

In this instalment Storm/Rafe is back with the band on tour, surprise surprise! He finds out Melanie's indiscretions with other band members, it was only a kiss.

Things hot up though as this instalment reveals that Melanie gets her man or should that be men, as her sexual exploits take on a new turn.

As the story draws to a close we are presented with a cliffhanger will all end well for our unlikely experimental couple?

This is still a very so so sort of story but I'll read the last instalment if only to find out how it all ends.

I still feel that in the instalment issues the reader is being slightly short changed.

His To Claim #5, Breaking Storm

This story was gifted to me in exchange for an honest review by Net Galley.

I love Opal Carew’s stories, it is simply amazing how much action she can get into so little pages and always manages to create such a jaw dropping ending as well.

This part has thinks going a little outside Melanies’s comfort zone as Storm realizes that she is attracted to both Travis and Diego and he plans to act on this knowledge. To give her a night that she will never ever forget.

I could not possible elaborate without any serious spoilers, and what fun would that be?

Next up is book six, deep sigh and then it will all be over. As always 5/5.

Intense and wow...I'm speechless

This book is intense and I think it is my favorite of the series. Rafe/Storm wants to show Melanie he loves her. He finds out about her kisses with Travis and Diego before he shows up to join the tour and is mad for a short while. This book had a freaking awesome sex scene and I'll be honest I can't seem to get it out of my head, even as I read the last book.

You should read them all in order to get the complete story about what is going but this one is a can't miss!

This is a review for all 6 parts of this story.

Rafe "Storm" Ranier is scrumptious! He is still searching for his identity. Working through his guilt of needing to bond with his brother Dane, Rafe finds himself denying his needs once again.

The absolutely delightful encounter between Rafe and Melanie in the tattoo parlor is worth noting. It definitely put a smile on my face!

The intimate scenes are scorching hot, just like Opal Carew always delivers. Some of the scenes blew my mind. Very creative!

Well-written and with an alluring plot line, this was well worth reading.

I finally "received" what I've been waiting for since book #1, and OH MY GOD!!! It was so beautiful and almost perfect. Yep, unfortunately the role-playing M/S ruined the whole picture for me a bit, because I felt it wasn't delivering what it was meant for. Nevertheless, it was fantastic!
I won't stress enough how much I root for Travis, so much that I was constantly thinking "what the hell are you waiting for, Melanie?? Just dump the guy and hook up with Travis!!!" :)
Once again, Carew delivers an amazing tale, and I can't wait to see how it all goes!

Rafe has now joined the band on tour. He has not only forgiven Melanie for what happened with Travis and Diego, but says she can do it again as long as he is there with her. Ummm...what? This is the same Rafe that totally freaked when she had lunch with Travis, right? Not going to complain because their foursome was scorching hot and probably the best part of this book so far. So the next day Rafe disappears. Total cliffhanger. Can we go back and talk more about that foursome?

I give His to Claim #5 4 hearts!

There was moment of devastation when I realized that I had only been permitted access to 5 out of 6 books in this series and that I was going to have to go to bed not knowing how the series ended. Anyways in this book we discover just how much Rafe cares for Melanie. This book has a hot group scene, more dominant male action, and will definitely leave you wanting more. Damn you book #6 for being so far away.

One word...HOT. You will definitely want to read this installment, although I have to say that when it came to Travis...The speech seemed forced and didn't flow as well as the other parts.
What a way to end it.....and I have to wait a month to read the final 30 pages...seriously. That's my issue with serials, you have such a small amount of the story by the time the next parts come out you have to re read the others.

Storm is crazy hot and so are his band mates. He has some demons to work through and he has to realize that he is not his father. The foursome was a nice touch. Would have liked a lite more reaction from the guys. Or maybe more dialog. Not sure, just felt it needed more....emotion maybe. Well, either way I want to know what happens to Storm. Let us see how this plays out. Need more please!!

We now join Storm and Melanie as they are on the road with Savage Storm working on their relationship and trust, and just simply being together. He knows that he wants to be with Melanie, the problem is he's afraid he'll lose her because of her attraction to Travis and Diego.

He goes above and beyond the perfect boyfriend but realizes he likes being in control but he's afraid he'll hurt her and doesn't want to. What will happen? There is a serious cliff hanger.....until the next part.

Storm aka Rafe, has made the decision to join his band on tour. He wants to fix what he thinks he could have with Melanie, but it is also to keep an eye on Travis and what he may try to do. He doesn't trust him. Even though he does trust Melanie, he doesn't doubt that she may be tempted. When a heart to heart with Diego, open up some new possibilities into making Melanie even happier, he sets forth on a path to make her fantasies a reality. But can he deal with the aftermath?

His to Claim is a composition of six short erotic stories that make up this novel. Apparently I missed the other series because there were so unexplained issues with Jessica and Rafe…I guess another series? Anyway, I immediately fell in love with this series. With sexy, steamy characters and the perfect chemistry in addition to a rock star plot makes for the perfect book!
