When Val Welles returns to Verona Lake after ten years away, it’s only because her life is in tatters and she has nowhere else to go. Her plan is to get her life together, then leave town as soon as possible. This place holds too many painful reminders of the past—including “Mac” McIntyre, the man she once loved and left behind.
She certainly never expected me—Oscar the cat—to pop up at her window one night, yowling to be let in. It’s supposed to be a temporary arrangement, but the longer I stay, the more I realize she still loves Mac. From the looks Mac gives her, I can tell he wants her, too. They’re meant to be together, and that’s not going to happen without my help.
But I have a problem. I’m leading a double life. At night, I stay with Val. During the day I visit my friend Mr. G, who’s moved into a retirement home—where cats aren’t allowed. I want to help all my friends, but I need a place to belong. As Val, Mac, and Mr. G move on with their lives, will they still have room for me?
Christie Logan writes sweet romance straight from the heart. She lives in upstate New York with too many pets, too many dust bunnies lurking under the bed, and too many plot bunnies bouncing around in her head. She thinks everyone deserves a happy ending and in her books, everyone gets one.
Cute, funny and romantic look at small town life of a cat, his older owner, a reluctant returning resident and a hopeful romantic looking for a chance at love. Valentine (Val) escaped her small town after high school, dreaming of the big city and a new start where nobody knew she was the town drunk's daughter...but now she moves back after losing her job in city...but the boy who she secretly was meeting before she left is still there, still single and hopeful that this time they will remain together. Mason (Mac) never left the small town as his father became ill, leaving running the family-owned hardware store to him. He wanted to come to the city with Val, but life got in the way with his father passing away and his mother and sister needing him...meanwhile he works as assisted living community where new resident Mr. G, his and Val's high school teacher now resides...but his wily cat Oscar visits daily...but nights are spent in Mr. G's old apartment, where Val now lives...as pets not allowed in facility....or could this work out for all being happy??? After not seeing each other for 10 years, Val Welles and Mac McIntyre get a second chance at love with a little help from a furry friend. When she lost her job in the city, Val came home briefly. Mac would have followed her to the city back then, but his family needed him to run the hardware store and he had to remain behind.
Val now lives in Mr. G’s old apartment after he had moved to the assisted living home. He had taught both Mac and Val in high school. And Oscar, his cat (not allowed at his new domicile) wheedles his way into staying with Val. And when Val is accused of stealing, can Oscar find the missing brooch? And how does he let them know about it and that Val didn’t steal it without causing other problems with his visits to Mr. G? (You won’t want to miss the “senior sit-in” to defend Oscar’s presence there.) Oscar is the star of the story, so grab your copy and see how all of these players fit together in a wonderful tale with a little bit of mystery and intrigue – and lots and lots of love!
Oscar the cat takes over everything and everyone in this delightful mystery romance. His person, Mr. G, is now in a retirement home and he can not have a cat there... until the senior rebellion maybe. Val is back in town after ten years and lives in Mr. Gs old home, so it makes sense that Oscar would infiltrate her life. Mac stayed in town ten years ago and now they may have a second chance. Terrific characters, including Oscar, jump off the pages and into your heart as they cross paths and figure out the mystery before it hurts someone. Oscar has the best ideas and intel. Entertaining situations, surprises, twists, intrigue and more keep the pages turning. Great chemistry and the ending brought it all together. Really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the next one.

This is an amazing story of the journey of Val, Mac, and Oscar. It has been 10 years since Val and Mac have seen each other. It is awkward seeing each other, but they decide to try being friends and see how that goes. Along the way, they discover many things about themselves, and one is you can't outrun your past. They are creating the life they have now, and moving forward in their journey. Life challenges them, and it so much fun with Oscar being a part of their lives. This is a fun read, and I had to keep reading because Christie Logan, will keep you wondering what is going to happen. I received an ARC from Christie Logan.
What a cute story with a smart, loveable cat as one of the main characters. I liked that Oscar had to be with his person, Mr. G, who now resided in the Vista View Senior Residence. His antics were so much fun to read about.I also liked that in this sweet romance Max and Val got a second chance at love. The book was romantic, sweet, and a breath of fresh air, revolving around the seniors at Vista View. How nice they could find hope and love too. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
I can understand why Val thought she had to leave to succeed after being so put down in her hometown but her boss takes advantage of her. Even if she thought she was part of the blame he used her and discarded her. Mac tried to move on when Val left but she was always the only one for him if false accusations from others don’t push her away. I loved wily Oscar the cat who found a way to be with his human at the nursing home, support Val, and solve a mystery. The nursing home residents were a riot.
Great characters, a fast read, and very sweet - like a tasty donut to curl up with on a lazy afternoon. The point of view changes are done very well and lend insight into the book - we get to learn about everyone involved and of course the cat is a star in the book.
I haven't read any others in the series and they're not needed to fully enjoy this book, though I may need to go pick up the others to read on days when I'm feeling a bit down. This book is sure to brighten your day!.

A perrrrfect second chance read! We meet Val who has returned to Verona Lake as her life is in disarray and she needs somewhere to find her feet. Mac was the guy who stayed behind when Val left as he had family obligations. Oscar is the cat whose human has had to move into the Vista View Senior Residence where cats are not allowed. There’s mystery and intrigue, there’s love and romance and Oscar is definitely the star of this wonderful sweet story.
Wonderful and heartwarming romance told from a cat's perspective. Wonderful characters to follow along as the cat narrates the story. Interesting concept that is fun to read. Romance is never easy and there are a few twists and turns along the way. The cat can't decide who to live with so that causes a bump in the road. Good read.
