THAILAND: Wry Memoirs Through My Thai Eye

Rate this book
It’s free now and always will be. I couldn’t possibly charge you for it. But it does allow you to join my readers groups if you download it. It isn't a guide book in the accepted sense of the it doesn't tell you where to go; it doesn't tell you what to eat; it doesn’t tell you where to stay; it doesn't tell you about any famous sights and from memory, not even Bangkok is mentioned! I can see why some, who were expecting such information, were disappointed. But hey, it does say things that other guide books don't tell you about. It does tell you a little about the the way they do things; their easy going way of life; the crazy things you see them do, their logic. But is that enough? Several reviews said it wasn’t. Now here's the thing, Memoirs Wry and Deadly Through My Other Thai Eye is a much better read. It's the second book in this series of three. Why is it better? Well, a lot more research went into it for a start and I’d written a novel in between times which gave me a huge amount of writing experience. But how can it be a better guide book? It still doesn't lead you by the hand and show you where to go and what to visit (well tons of other books do that) but it does advise you how to get around, hopefully, without being killed – a worthwhile point, I think. It still doesn't tell you about food (well tons of other books do that) and it still doesn’t tell you where to stay and so on. You get the picture. However, it does give REAL information, REAL funny incidents – not just what your average Brit thinks is a laugh – and a REAL insight into the way Thais think, work, play and dice with death virtually every day. There's REAL facts and stories about corruption, politics, prostitution, the military coup, and even some really boring stuff about visas and traveling with monks. It’s a good foil to have alongside your standard guide book. In fact the 2nd My Thai Eye book gives you more general information about Thailand, I guess, than any other guide book. And it’s three times bigger yet very simple to read. Awesome. So don't buy my first book – well you can’ it's free anyway – read the second book instead. To make this choice easier for you, I’ve dropped the price to $1.99 – longer if I forget to put it back up again, which I guess is a distinct possibility. And book three in the series gets deadly serious. It's a novel written whilst I lived in Thailand about people trafficking - something to read on the flight to Thailand I suggest. Go to Thailand, Happy travels.

A peek into Thai life from a frequent tourist

The author is visiting Thailand with his wife on extended holiday, and treats us to various anecdotes and stories from their time there. Each story is cleverly captioned, and the stories cover a range of topics from train journeys to accidents to medical emergencies to red tape at utility companies. The ebook conveniently links back to the table of contents after each story, making navigation a breeze if you aren't reading straight through.

Tipple sees great humor in everyday life here in Thailand, and contrasts the easy going ways of locals to his own countrymen back in the UK. His descriptions of the people, the culture, and the landscape all contribute to an entertaining assortment of tales from abroad.
