“Brian Wood’s writing of this new Star Wars series has been excellent from the first issue.”—Den of Geek
Brian Wood's history of published work includes over fifty volumes of genre-spanning original material.
From the 1500-page future war epic DMZ, the ecological disaster series The Massive, the American crime drama Briggs Land, and the groundbreaking lo-fi dystopia Channel Zero he has a 20-year track record of marrying thoughtful world-building and political commentary with compelling and diverse characters.
His YA novels - Demo, Local, The New York Four, and Mara - have made YALSA and New York Public Library best-of lists. His historical fiction - the viking series Northlanders, the American Revolution-centered Rebels, and the norse-samurai mashup Sword Daughter - are benchmarks in the comic book industry.
He's written some of the biggest franchises in pop culture, including Star Wars, Terminator, RoboCop, Conan The Barbarian, Robotech, and Planet Of The Apes. He’s written number-one-selling series for Marvel Comics. And he’s created and written multiple canonical stories for the Aliens universe, including the Zula Hendricks character.
For a comic book, these 2013 Star Wars comics from Wood continue to be absolutely stellar. I am not joking when I say TV/film quality material.
While this comic book series could have easily ended on issue #12 and be classified as masterpiece status, they've decided to pause all of the minor story arcs and narrow focus solely down to Lord Vader's path within this particular series.
This is truly stellar Vader content. The newly introduced Imperial Officer assigned as her personal assistant, along with his pocket squad of a Stormtrooper Special Forces, a mission off the books and without the explicit approval of the Emperor - aka Vader being exercising personal ambition... is what being a Sith is all about.
Diehard Vader fans should at an absolute minimum jump and read issues #13 and #14 of this series.
True Star Wars fans who enjoy comics - this entire series is a must read.
I am super excited for #14!
This is a comic book series I don't want to end. I am intentionally forcing myself to only read one (1) issue a day to really savor this one.
Part 1 of a 2 part series (within the larger 20 issue arc) that takes a new spin on things with first person narration of an ensign charged to Vader's command. The way Wood captured the tension and kept the story moving with the urgency I expected from Vader's wrath was very well done. Loved this mini series within the series!
