Recommended to me by a college history professor, this is probably one of the greatest books I have ever read. It posits that the most important figures of history, ones that brought about great change, were Heretics of their time. It gives mini-biographies of figures like Akhenaten, Jesus of Nazareth, Galileo, Socrates, and many others. Anyone who is a History Buff should track down this Hard to Find gem.

Absolutely one of the most important books written on Christianity and its history of the Bible, particularly the corruption of religion and the abuse of power. The bibliography alone is worth a fortune. Those who "don't like it" have only come up with religious, not scholarly arguments. I have owned this book since 1982, and will never part with it. This book should be republished and released to the public as a new edition with a promotion campaign.
Barrows Dunham may have been a philosopher, but his philosophy was critical thinking/reason, and his "philosophy" was manifested in being scholarly and objective, and well studied.
