Is Baltimore police detective Liam Van Zandt living in The Twilight Zone? It sure looks that way. The victims in the murders he’s investigating seem to have been crushed by a cursed statue.
In the middle of his investigation Liam is fighting his attraction to the mysterious Dr. Bartek Szala, a police consultant and amateur folklorist. With everything coming to a head and his Captain breathing down his neck, Liam has been denying his attraction to Bartek. But when they are thrust into a supernatural world of witches, vampires and werewolves they have to join forces or they won’t survive.
Will Liam and Bartek come out alive or will they succumb to the danger that surrounds the Legend of Black Aggie?
CONTENT WARNING: shifter knotting, vampires and one confused police detective who still can't figure out this supernatural stuff. Second book in The Werewolves of Baltimore series. While it would help to read the first book, this is a stand alone novella. No cliffhanger, HEA guaranteed.
USA Today bestselling author Holly (H.L.) Holston is a dog walker by day and a sometimes author by night.
She admits she is a horrible blogger, even worse in keeping up on Facebook, and wishes she could retire to New Orleans and eat beignets every day at Café du Monde. Until then, she will write books about sexy men loving each other.
3 and 1/2 stars. This is a fun read. I loved Liam and Bartek even though I felt that the story could have been fleshed out a little more. The mystery was solved prettier quickly, but it was secondary to the plot’s romance. I wanted Bartek to deal with Hans and Cedric, but I hope that will happen in the next book.
Well I have to say I was a little shocked, I guess I didn’t read very well, as I wasn’t aware that this was a MM supernatural read. This is only the second MM book I have ever read and I do have to say it wasn’t bad at all, I do love my shifters and vampires. And I do look forward to reading the rest of the series.
The Black Aggie legend underlying this story intrigued me. I've never lived on the MD coast so wasn't familiar with Black Aggie so that definitely piqued my interest. I also liked how the series progresses from the first book (The Moon's Dirty Light), which focuses primarily on shifters. In this story, we get to spend more face time with other paranormals populating this world, too. Fun and smexy.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. What can I say? This story was hot! We got to see some more of Logan and Dylan, met Liam and Bartek, and got one hell of a story! I can’t wait to see what goes down with the vampires and how Bartek exacts his revenge! I want his revenge to be epic! I wanted to make this review longer but I didn’t want to let too much out of the bag. I can’t wait for the next story, though!
This is the first book in this series that I have read. It was an amazing book and I believe that I am going to enjoy this series tremendously. There was mystery. There was danger. There is vampires and shifters. And then there was the biggest twist that I did not see coming.
Liam is a detective and he lands a case that is beyond disturbing. He believes in paranormal, I mean how could he not when his best friend is a werewolf. But to have a A ghost actually murdering people, thatbis just beyond his knowledge and grasp. That is why he seeks help with Bartek.
Bartek is a vampire who has lived many years. So he knows many of the legends including he one that Liam is now investigating. The thing is, Liam does not know as of yet that Bartek is a vampire.
As the case heats up, Bartek and Liam grow closer. But Bartek has not revealed who is as of yet and the truth comes out in the most inconvenient time.
Can two men with so much strangeness between them along with so much danger and even the unknown danger that is still lurking, can they navigate the waters together or will something or someone pull them apart before they ever truly get started.
This was such an incredible read. It sucks you in and keeps you there till the very end. I truly enjoyed this book and I look forward to the next book in this series when it comes out.

Death has again come to Baltimore and it’s of the supernatural kind. Can Liam accept that werewolves are just a small part of that world? Beneath the 13th Moon is second in by H.L. Holston’s Werewolves of Baltimore series. And Liam has picked up a case with no obvious cause of death. When all plausible reasons have been explored he is left with the implausible, but can he accept it? Bartek is attracted to Liam but not his narrow view. However, when fate brings Liam back into his world will Bartek take a chance? I enjoyed Bartek. He was comfortable with who he is. He knew there was more in this world and while he hesitates to become a part of life he does enjoy watching others live. But Liam forces him to live again and stop being a bystander. Seeing Liam and Bartek navigate their individual fears was well articulated by Ms. Holston.
I enjoyed this story by Ms. Holston. It was well-written and had a few unexpected twists. I can’t wait to see where she will take us next in this series.
So there were a couple of things in this book that I just didn’t understand. Why would Cedric create a weapon that can so easily be used against him and completely remove him from any kind of power or influence? And what could his end goal be? Does the serum prevent someone inoculated from ever becoming a vampire again? If not, even as a threat, it doesn’t seem to be particularly effective. If so, I can see it scaring some vampires into submission, but since it doesn’t prevent other paranormal changes, you just end up with a few people on your side and pretty must EVERYONE else in the paranormal community out to eradicate you and yours.
Overall, it seemed to be a particularly poorly thought out evil scheme, and how is Bartek their guinea pig if they aren’t even paying attention to him, or watching him, to see if the thing actually worked - and to see if Bartek is going to cause them any trouble in the future?
Story hit all my buttons, action, hot intense men, complex characters, passionate moments, intriguing story-line and great supporting characters. So many twists and turns in this story, i could not put it down! Wow, i was hooked from page one and read this book instead of working, i was a very bad girl and a very happy one!
The connection between Liam and Bartek sizzled in a really compelling way. A deep personal, soulmate kinda of connection. As the reader i felt their pain and their passion. I reveled in their love and was hurt with their pain. Catching up with Logan and Dylan was delightful, their interactions are just a great as they were the first time!
i had read the first book a couple of years ago, so i went back and re-read it after i read this one.
Such a great journey to enjoy with this series! Beneath the 13th Moon is so so very good! Treat yourself today!

3.75 stars
I recommend reading the previous book as those MCs make a significant appearance in this story.
I liked this story more that the previous story. The MCs were a lot more likable. The story was still really short for the plot that is being told, so while it held up okay on the romance (insta-love) and the paranormal (vampires and werewolves), the mystery side of the story was rather lacking. I did like Liam, he knows about the paranormal world but it does take him a bit to fully acclimate to the new elements he's introduced to in this story. Bartek managed to be both stuffy older vampire and still likable. There are definitely some plot points that I hope there will be another book to wrap them up (some that are actually left hanging and a few that just hinted there might be more), the story doesn't have a cliffhanger so much as there are things not completely resolved.
Just as sexy as book one - Liam Van Zandt homicide detective meets Bartek Szala a police consultant during a mysterious murder case but he can't focus on anything but Bartek and the feelings mutual. Even though Liam knows the paranormal world is at his doorstep with seeing Logan (from book 1) turn into a werewolf he knows anythings possible but what he doesn't realize is there is more then just werewolves out there. Very sexy story; Bartek and Liam are sexy as hell together and they can't get enough of each other, hot as hell sex scenes. I loved the turn of events and the mysteriousness of this book. Very intriguing and well written. Love having Logan and Dylan appear again ( love those guys) 4 stars review by Nanee upallnightreadallday.blogspot.com
Slow on the uptake, but worth the read. Glad I got in with the guys. Totally good way to enjoy my day off. Ladies, you need to continue the series soon!

Apparently I had read this series back in 2014 and it was only via GR that I remembered. This is one time I can definitely say, the second time around was the best. I enjoyed the human Liam and his lover Bartek immensely. The police detective and the vampire Doctor were there for each other through thick and thin. Such a thrilling story. The turns of events were mind boggling and I am still hoping that the authors will give us readers more.
Well my earlier review was wrong and I tried to find a way to edit and it would not let me. So I first must apologize for the bad review and say to be honest I was surprised in the way the story ended. I never read a book were the reader is taken by surprise by the reversal of roles like this one from a vampire to a werewolf just to save and keep the love of the two guys had for each other. The first part of the book was like I said earlier confusing and pretty boring but after the incident with the vampire being turn to human the story seem to take new life and I look forward to book 3 if there is one
After a strange death Detective Lian Van Zandt meets with Doctor Bartek Szala. Detective Liam Van Zandt is investigating a strange death in one of the local cemeteries where a young man was found without a mark on him but at autopsy was found to have been crushed.amid rumors of a cursed statue. After talking to a werewolf friend he goes to consult with Doctor Bartek Szala who is supposed to be knowledgeable in the paranormal and occult. Both men are attracted but exercise caution and back away but then another death occurs. A MM paranormal romance to relax and enjoy.

Dylan kind of let's drop that he's with child. Liam is the focus of this story he was trained by Logan. He working on a case and is steered toward the good doctor.
Liam and the whole werewolf thing was something I wasn't sure if I should have expected or not but it was fun to see the thing with his lover. I found myself curious about Hans and Cedric's serum.
Liam and Bartek's relationship progression was entertaining to follow along to.

This is my first book by this author and it will not be my last. I liked this book so much I went and bought the first one. It has all the suspense and action of a police thriller, the excitement of the paranormal with a heaping side of romance. I am looking forward to catching up with the first book while waiting excitedly for the next one. I requested an advanced reader copy from Booksprout and am under no obligation to leave this review.
Love this second book in this wonderful series. Great storyline that had hooked all the way through. Liam and Bartek are great characters with spectacular chemistry. Unexpected twists in the story kept me on the edge of my seat. Loved seeing Logan and Dylan from book 1 pop up in this one. Can't wait for the next book in this series. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
Witches, werewolves and vampires.... oh, my! Well a bit of witches in a round about way but vampires and werewolves are the main part of this story. The author does a great job creating the characters and the story line. It is very easy to get into and reads very well. I can't wait for the next chapter, as I am sure this story will be continued....
Werewolves of Baltimore: Beneath the 13th Moon by H.L. Holston is a wonderful story that I have read. This is book number two in this wonderful series that I have fallen in love with. I highly recommend this story if you like reading about shifter knotting, vampires and all the good things that come with it.

This is the second book in The Werewolves of Baltimore Series. A fascinating book the writing was good. There were a couple of grammar issues though. As with the first book there is detail that is missing to take the story to the next level. And the deaths are like an afterthought with the conclusion being too easy. The first sex scene had no buildup it was like on first meeting someone you say hi and stop right there and have sex on the spot. The plot was entertaining and it was steady throughout the book. I found the story and characters interesting The characters were developed and thought out. Liam is a human and Bartek is a vampire and they are the MC’s of this book. There was humor, wolves, vampires, a wedding, mates, deaths, Black Aggie, shocking surprises and so much more in this book. I did enjoy reading this story it just needed more.
Here is a quote from the book, “Heard a kid died last night at Druid Ridge Cemetery, Van Zandt.” … “Yeah, just got the ME’s report.” “Let me guess: crushed to death?” Steve said. Liam’s blue eyes widened with astonishment. He stared, speechless, but nodded. How had Brooks known about that? “Black Aggie strikes again.” Steve’s voice, though quiet had an ominous quality. “Good luck on closing that one.” And walked away without a backward glance.”. There is more but you will need to read the book which I can. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.
So far not as impressed as the first book the storyline not laid out to well for an example one minute they are running upstairs and then all sudden you are a party for a wedding and the characters at the party was not explained at all who they were and really what was said was not enough to peak my interest there was no bill up to the wedding party. This book I finding very hard to read. The first book I could not set down and yes I wrote some criticism on it but they were very mild compared this book.
Who doesn’t love a man of mystery The author did not disappoint with this second installment to the series. As a Baltimore native I might be a little biased, but this story has so many twists and turns and the characters really come alive off of the pages. I love how the author gave these couples that connection that goes beyond love and into the realm of the soul. It was nice catching up with the characters from the first book and I can only hope that we will see them again in the next book. I am really looking forward to seeing what the author comes up with next.
Liam and Bartek Bartek is a centuries old vampire. More than crushing on Liam. They are just beginning a relationship when Liam finds out what Bartek is. “He was every child’s nightmare of a creature that lived under your bed and could and would eat you when you fell asleep.” Mysterious deaths contributed to a legend know as Black Aggie, a statue that reportedly can crush a person from the inside out. This, added to Liam’s vampire lover, makes over his life. I liked this book more than the first. A huge surprise added to the depth of the story. Enjoyable book.
I actual don't find hazing funny at all, and the example was horribly mean.
Wow, a lot of cliches: "can see writing on the wall," "last one is a rotten egg," "Denial isn't just a river in Egypt."
Every other sentence is the vampire judging arousal or attractiveness or judging the love interest, and it's getting tedious and really interrupting the storyline. The sentences should be grouped so you can read some judgmental stuff, and then some plot. At this stage of the game, when it isn't fated mates, and the guy's there for a serious reason, and this is supposed to have a plot, it's too much. I hate when there isn't any attraction at first, but this is just annoying.
I'm disappointed this isn't going well so far because I really liked the first book as far as I can remember.
I don't know why him telling the guy what just one word meant was so awful because it would for sure get him involved. He could have told him then feigned ignorance on anything else.
Why is he so close minded?! He knows the supernatural exists.
He grabbed a woman he was trying to interview. Good job there.
Domestic violence is never okay, even from the physically weaker to the stronger.
They make it sound like they've been together for a while, but just that day, he told the captain what he accomplished which is what he'd done before they ever even touched. (Well that sentence made sense to me.)
Age gap.
It was good that Bartek's stress was talked about, but emotions other than his rejection weren't talked about, didn't exist, or lasted like a minute. They didn't exhaust all the research to fix his problem, didn't confront the bad guys, didn't even talk about them except they'd done this bad thing. No talk about how the bad guys could do it to others.
The mystery wasn't a mystery and was resolved easily.
The only good was that there was some peril, even a hospital scene, except no one was even there to care, especially not the other MC.
i loved this book just like the first one of this series but can be read alone, Liam Van Zandt is a detective and is on a case that stumps him so he ask his former partner(who is in the first book and is a werewolf) for help so he sends Liam to Dr Bartek Szala a folklorist to help but as soon as they see each other sparks fly and alot more they have to overcome to be together.i read this book for my honest review
There were positives to the book as well, though. Once both men committed to each other they were intense together. Liam's last thought when he thought he was dying was that he wanted more time with Bartek, and once Bartek reached that point, he was willing to spend forever together.
After enjoying book 1 so much, I just couldn't get into this. It didn't have the quirkiness of the first one. The case of the Black Aggie was a bit too dry, the pacing moved to slowly, I found little interesting about Liam, and Bartek just rubbed me the wrong way. The ending had some potential and I will always like seeing Dylan and Logan appear, but it needed a bit more punch to make it work.
