Whenever I hear the word Titanic, this sentence is the first thing that comes to my mind.
"It's been 84 years, and I can still smell the fresh paint. China had never been used. The sheets had never been slept in. Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was." —Rose

The Titanic was the largest moving human-made object in the world at that time. It had many new features, including remotely sealable compartments that led to it being deemed "unsinkable." This book deals with the history of the Titanic and its tragic voyage.

This nice overview of the Titanic describes the ship, the sinking, the aftermath, and the lasting effects of the disaster. I knew from the title not to expect anything in-depth, which is fine, and for the most part, the book works well with its short format. However, there are some elements associated with the disaster that are complex and multi-faceted. Consequently, there are a few places in this book that tend toward over-simplification, which can be misleading. Usually, there are two options: a book will avoid subtle, complicated issues, or it will face them head-on and explore them. This book does neither, and I think it suffers a bit for it. Still, on the whole, it’s pretty solid. Someone who has read other Titanic books likely won’t find anything new here, but someone new to the history might appreciate it. It covers a lot of ground in a few words.

Interesting compact text about the Titanic. A good one for anyone who want an quick overview of the situation but still described in a storybook-way instead of just a rambling of facts.
I picked it up it as a teaser for the Titanic-exhibit currently visiting my town and for that it worked well.

A short and very informative book which tells all there is to know about the creation and tragic fate of the infamous ship 'Titanic'. I really enjoyed this book, it contained a lot of interesting facts about how the ship was made as well as short articles on people who took part in it. Some of the information I didn't know, so it was very enlightening. I highly recommend it to everyone who's even slightly interested in the history of Titanic and/or, like myself, watched the 1997 movie abnormally too many times.

This is a quick overview containing many facts about the Titanic. It’s quite interesting and the audio version is well performed. It’s a quick study for those who desire just the basics. However, a few of the tidbits of information are questionable, so readers who want more of an in-depth study should consult other avenues of Titanic lore for a more complete and accurate picture.

This book reads like a disaster novel strange to think it actually happened.

A fascinating glimpse into Titanic’s creation, its launch and ill fated voyage. The book also includes insightful and interesting information on crew members and passengers. The pictures within the book really helped enhance the text.

Two main points that will remain with me are that the disaster may have been prevented or at least massively lessened had it been a head on collision rather than a side impact with the iceberg. And also the supposed ship thought to have been present at the sinking of the Titanic - was it the Californian - was there even a ship nearby ?

It’s always somewhat harrowing just reading the build up of a Titanic book and knowing what is going to happen next. A most engaging book on one of the most disastrous maritime disasters.

I have read quite a few books in the history in an hour series and had this one on my wish list for a while and treated myself this Christmas. The book was full of excellent details and facts and I found it really enjoyable - would have been five stars but there were some typos that did let the book down.

Very informative book. I loved it! I guess it's not commonly known that Titanic wouldn't sink if sharp turn to the side (which was natural reaction) was not made or that building material had flaws that would make this majestic ship to sink eventually over the years.
