Well, as far as the story is concerned, very good. As to the characterisations, Dugdale is what the British portray to the world, in general, in order to hide their true character as portrayed by Menduca. I'm not wholly convinced that the British ended slavery for compassionate reasons, there must have been a commercial reason behind it.
