Royal Navy: My Life On The Ocean Waves: Comic Memoirs Of My Time In The Royal Navy From 1966 to 1976

Rate this book
Royal My Life On The Ocean Douglas Freeman was in the Royal Navy from 1966 to 1976. Is this the funniest Royal Navy Auto-biography ever? Well my family and friends seem to think so. The people I loaned my book to said they were in stitches with all the funny stories I had to tell about my journeys around the world and "My Life On The Ocean Waves"

It was the best of times....

This book bought back many memories of my time in the RN. My time in the mob didn't just consist of me staggering from bar to bar, brewery visits, questionable ladies in even more questionable bars ( don't tell my mum ), but lots of my naval memories do. Those who complained about spelling errors or errors of grammar, well if that floats your boat, dig out. I liked the book and laughed lots. Finally, to those who obviously confused the author with Douglas Reeman, really?

My daughter sent me this book as part of my 80th Birthday present to my location in Australia where I am the Branch Secretary of the RN Association, Port Phillip Bay Branch, Nr Melbourne, Victoria. I found it a good read albeit a couple of location forgetfulness. Page 31 should read HMS St. Angelo and page 43 should have been HMS Jufair, not Sharjah which was RAF. I base these two corrections on my own service between 1958 & 1969 when I left as an LRO(G). Nevertheless, thanks for a good read Douglas.

I have a great mate and this book sounds very much like his time in the Royal Navy.
Made me laugh and at times sad as things have changed in our armed forces never to return.
Dougie served his time and really enjoyed the journey and the book takes us through the years and places he visited. All round a very good read.

10 years in the Andrew' does not make you a particularly good author!!

The book is written like a bad diary with a few second hand jokes thrown in. I am sure that he has been encouraged by friends and family to put his memories on to paper but it is not a very good effort.

Bravo Zulu

From one old salt to another...a really good yarn. To those that have not been priveleged to serve this is well worth the read.

Read like a BR in places but brought back a lot of memories as a stoker POME after 14years RN and 5 RNZN. Would have enjoyed it more if he was not trying too hard to be PC.
