Cowboy Seeking a Second Chance

Rate this book
Ten years ago Boone Pace made a mistake out of selfishness and immaturity.
He’s regretted it ever since.
Competing as a professional rodeo cowboy was everything he wanted. All that mattered. An opportunity he wouldn’t pass by.
But it meant leaving his high-school sweetheart behind.
Mae Wells was sweet, and innocent, and quiet. Not the kind of girl you dragged away from her family and home to follow you around the country.
At eighteen it didn’t seem like a huge sacrifice. But at almost thirty, Boone’s lived enough and lost enough to realize he threw away something precious.
Something he’s been chasing ever since.
Something he intends to have again.
***
Mae Wells is no one’s second choice.
Not even Boone Pace’s.
At eighteen she thought her life was already laid out. Marriage and motherhood awaited her. Only it didn’t.
All because Boone walked away from Moss Creek, and her, without so much as a goodbye. She was devastated. Broken. And sometimes you have to break to find out how strong you really are.
But now he’s back in town. Gone is the boy she once loved, replaced by a man who fills out a pair of Wranglers like no one she’s ever seen. And this man seems to have one, single goal. To win her back.
But Boone broke her heart once.
Giving him the chance to do it twice seems like a bad decision.
Unless it’s not.

Cowboy Seeking a Second Chance is the second stand-alone installment in the sexy Cowboy Classifieds series. Each book is a complete story that will leave you longing for days on the ranch with a country boy who works just as hard during the day as he does at night.

Not a fan of him leaving her so broken hearted to go live an exciting rodeo life and sleep with “more than his share of women”. Then to come back and blame her for his leaving and not coming back sooner. Why did she apologize to him? He was so sad because he loved her and couldn’t come back because of her hatred of him. Kinda gross for him to repeatedly tell her how good he got at sex due to sleeping around for 9 years. Hard to believe that she couldn’t find an attractive man to have a normal healthy relationship with in 9 years. She had to go out of town for her dates.

I wish Mae would have crushes Boone's truck with her SUV.
I hate stories where the guy hurts the girl but convinces her he's sorry and he's changed his selfish ways while continuing to be selfish. Then she buys his "I'm a changed man" story and falls in love with him again, because you know she has always loved him. Ugh

For once I want a romance story where she finds a guy that truly deserves her and he does the right things and leaves alone her to live a happy life.

DNF - I got tired of hearing how “good at sex” the hero got after dumping the heroine.

I've been waiting for this book since Cowboy Seeking a Nanny came out and Janice doesn't disappoint! This was everything I hoped it would be and more! I chuckled throughout this book being the reader trying to understand where they were both coming from. Lots of intense moments, not necessarily from the main characters but I loved how the plot evolved and also came to the end with some extra bits added to tease you to what will happen to the other brothers.
Boone and Mae have had a tumultuous relationship but now they're both older and wiser. I was happy to see how strong a character Mae was and how hard she tried to protect her heart. Equally I thought that Boone was mature in his approach to be patient yet persistent whilst chipping away at the wall she'd built up. Once they'd got through their initial interactions they started to listen to each other and owned up to their mistakes brought on because of their youth. There are lots of twists and turns through this story but it's a great read and follow on to book 1. Definitely recommend you taking a look at this if you're into cowboy romances.

Maybe I do love cowboy romances after all.

I love rom-coms, romance novels, and love stories. So I read a lot of them. This is great fun for me, but it means that my personal "market" is oversaturated. It will take a truly great romance to get more than three stars. In case you are interested:

Relyn's personal rom-com & romance novel rating system
5 stars - This book is excellent. It stands out from the hundreds of other love stories I've read, and I loved it.
4 stars - Oh, I really, really liked this one.
3 stars - This was a good, entertaining book and I'm glad I read it.
2 stars - Meh - boring, or overdone, or in some other way just not a good fit for me
1 star - This one stunk.

DNF not because it’s not good but because it’s too sweet and predictable too me.
It’s well written and the plot is good.
Oh, and this book deserves a better cover. It’s too cheesy.

hilarious and emotional

This story. It was incredibly emotional, seeing the characters fight through the shadows of their past to become the couple they wanted to be. And seeing them interact, and Mae’s bravery, was something else. I wish Mae were real so she could be my friend. :)

So so so soooooooooo feckin good. I love this series, just makes me all warm and fuzzy.

I knew Mae wasn’t going to take any crap and she did good. She certainly made Boone work for it.

Obviously Boone was swoon worthy, and so friggin patient.

Great storyline bringing in new characters.

But yet again the “Girl Gang” is strong, love that about a Janice’s books.

AND OMFG.....not only do we get an Epilogue but TWO Bonus Bits. Friggin love it.

Well done Janice you did it again, fantastic 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼❤️❤️

Can’t wait for Brooks & Nora 😏

Cowboy Seeking a Second Chance
Boone and Mae
Book 2 in the Cowboys of Moss Creek
This was an enjoyable continuation of this series.

Boone and Mae have history. High school sweethearts who were looking forward to their future together on his family’s ranch. Marriage, babies and a happily ever after. Unfortunately, when Boone graduated he chose something different. He left Mae behind to persue a career in pro rodeo.
Ten years later he’s back and has one very angry and very different Mae on his hands. She is no longer the shy meek young lady he left behind. She’s now a fierce, strong woman. She’s used her anger and hurt to propel her forward. She now owns and operates the most popular restaurant in their small town. She doesn’t take squat from anyone, has a backbone of steel and a mouth to rival any sailor. And still has a firm hold on her hatred of Boone.
Neither Boone or Mae are the people they were ten years earlier. They have both grown up. Boone is out to prove he can be there for her, for anything she needs. He just needs to convince her to put the knives and cast iron away anytime he comes near her.
When the two of them come together to help a friend out of a bad situation, Mae is seeing a different side to Boone. And might be ready to admit that him leaving, was the best thing for both of them.
I loved Boone. He was so focused and patient with Mae. He didn’t want to spook her and send her running.
Mae. At times I loved her spunky attitude. She was fiercely protective of those she loved. At other times, her continuing to berate Boone for something he did when he was nineteen years old and even internally admitting that he was right to leave, drove me crazy. She held on to her anger just to hold on to it. She was so focused on being angry she didn’t see anything else.
I loved seeing the other characters. Catching up with Brody and Clara. And meeting some new ones that I can see fitting into future stories.
It was well written, great characters.
A quick, easy, light read. A little drama, but nothing too bad.
Each book is a complete story, but I would recommend reading them in order so you don’t miss anything.
I’m looking forward to the next story.

Mae became less of a shrew, starting at around the 25% mark and I began to enjoy the book a lot more. I don’t remember Maryann (Boone’s mom) being such a bossy old hag in Brody and Cla-la’s book.

I sure hope I get a better feeling than I do now about this book. At 16% in, all I know is that Boone broke up with Mae in order to pursue a career in rodeo but beside that, I’m not aware yet whether or not he did anything of a worse nature to Mae (no one has ever hinted that he did), but if that’s all he did, I think everyone is overreacting to this. Good Lord, just like thousands of teens, he broke up with his girlfriend. He stayed away for 10 YEARS and had to ASK HIS MOTHER IF HE COULD COME HOME!!! Yes, that’s right. Then, once he got home, SHE DID NOT ALLOW HIM TO LIVE IN THE FAMILY’S HOME—SHE MADE HIM LIVE IN A WORKER’S CABIN!!!! I understand her being upset with her son but for crying out loud, SHE IS HIS MOTHER!!! A mother is supposed to get over that and ACT LIKE A MOTHER! Makes me lose respect for that woman. As for Mae, she becomes an immature shrew anytime Boone is anywhere near her. In the previous book, she even held a large kitchen knife to his chest. Mae got a flat tire and was stranded on the side of the road in a huge downpour. Boone was passing by and saw her so he stopped to help her. She did not make it easy for him to help her. Because her spare was flat, he offered her a ride home, which she refused until she realized she had no cell service to call an Uber. When he dropped her off at home, SHE NEVER TOLD HIM GOODBYE, THANK YOU, OR EVEN FUCK YOU. A bigger person would not act the way Mae does.

I seriously love this series so much! These are decently short books so it’s easy to just knock ‘em right out!

Boone Pace and Mae Wells were high school sweethearts that everyone thought would get married. But what happens when Boone wants to go be a rodeo cowboy traveling the world? Well he breaks the heart of the woman he loves and gets on his mama’s bad side for a while.

Ten years later and Boone is back after realizing that he gave up the one thing that mattered to him the most, Mae, and boy is his mama making him pay for it. As is Mae, who has no problem showing Boone how much she hates him.

So what happens when a date night goes wrong, Mae gets stood up, her tire goes flat in a rainstorm on a deserted road that only Boone happens to be driving down? Well a whole lot of cussing that’s for sure, but also an opening that Boone sees and definitely takes.

These Pace brothers are very good and knowing what they want and doing whatever it takes to get it. And Boone knows he wants Mae back and is literally doing everything he can to prove that he’s grown and is different from the boy he was.

I loved their banter and relationship. Boone is such a sweetheart and I love how protective he (and all the boys are) of their women. Also this and a little bit of action in it which I loved!

We also got a little update on Brody and Clara! They moved the wedding up and are close to starting to build their home, but Brody wants to officially adopt Wyatt. I love these little updates and can’t want to see some more of these characters in the next book, which is Brooks and Nora!

A second chance at love for Boone and Mae ten years after he left her to be a cowboy on the rodeo circuit.

Boone knew he wasn't ready to settle down no matter how much he loved Mae, so he took himself off to the pro rodeo circuit, and missed her every day instead. She took his leaving badly, and put herself through culinary school, bought an old building and started her own cafe. It's ten years later and she's still mad at Boone for leaving her, even though she's a lot better off and stronger than she'd ever been. He's been home a year now, biding his time, cause he's done decided that he's going to win Mae back, and it's gotta be done slow and careful, cause he wants to do it right this time. There's problems with one of her friends that she hired to help her out, she's having problems with her lazy drunk of a husband, and it's moved on to wife beating. Then after Mae and Boone help her leave him, he sets fire to Mae's cafe, then he trashes her house and tries to hurt Mae again, but Boone steps in just in time to be shot. So Mae slaps Junior with a cast iron skillet, knocking him out her front window. She'd been wanting to clobber him anyway for what he had done to her friend and their son. There are happy endings, and a bit more family drama, but it's all good.

A Better Book Cover:
description

A Second-Chance Western Romance

💪 Featuring strong women who are perfectly capable on their own and won’t be controlled by men. The men are willing to do anything to keep them happy—probably because their strict mother taught them from a young age to toe the line.

Book 2 in the low-angst Pace family series, where the "B" brothers find their happily ever afters. Boone (29) reunites with his high school sweetheart, Mae.

This is a sweet romance with three sensual sex scenes (3/5 heat level). The simple story centers around Boone and Mae easily reconciling after an 11-year separation, with another side of ex-husband drama. It includes characters from other books, so this isn't a standalone.

Brody and Clare, the MCs from book one, are planning their upcoming wedding. The Pace Inn is now open for business. Both Brody and Boone are getting ready to build their own houses.

One thing that's clear is, the author doesn't write distinct characters. The Pace brothers have similar voices, and the women have pretty much the same personalities. Even with my quibbles, I appreciated finding an easy to read book that I could finish, with hunky heroes who will do anything for their women. I enjoyed this feel-good story more than book one.

📕 More About the Book with Spoilers:

At age 18, Boone wasn't ready to marry Mae, so he left to become a successful rodeo cowboy. Over time, he matured and gained sexual experience from all his one-night stands. He returned home feeling regretful over losing Mae—the only woman he loved. For more than a year, his mother made him stay in a small cabin meant for ranch hands and sons who ruined their mother's lives. (Apparently, she's never made mistakes.) It was sad that Mae was the only one who understood Boone—knowing that he stayed there as a form of punishment. She helps him to heal, and even admits that she also made errors.

During Boone's absence, Mae also matured, forced to stand on her own. She went to culinary school, renovated a building into an apartment and a diner called The Wooden Spoon. Now outspoken, confident and successful, the new improved Mae is happy without a man (but she did have sex). The story follows Boone showing Mae he's changed and trying to win her back. By the middle of the book, they've made up.

After they reconcile, the sex scenes start. They're more heated than in the first book, but are still on the short and vague side (just how I like it).

The ex-husband drama: Camille, who works for Mae, is an abused wife. She decides to leave her husband, with help from Mae. Her angry husband, Jimmy, retaliates by trying to burn down Mae’s restaurant and wrecking her apartment above it. A feisty Mae fights back when Jimmy confronts her and shoots Boone in the shoulder. She hits Jimmy on the head and sends him out of the second-story window. (After this is when Mae shows some vulnerability. 🤗 Boone manages the restoration of her diner and organizes a get-together with her friends to help her.)

With the danger over, the story shifts back to Boone winning the heart of Mae, with their future being discussed together.

Boone repeatedly expressed his regret: He was young and stupid, selfish, cowardly, and a fool to leave her. He knows there aren't enough apologies to make up for what he did.

It's emphasized how improved Mae is: Boone comments frequently on it. Mae keeps saying how she's not broken. She’s become a woman who knows her worth, her strength, and what she wants. She no longer needs him to take care of her, she can do it herself—emotionally and financially.

Boone is proud of his sexual skills, saying he’s improved, having learned a few things over the past ten years. He wants Mae to see that he’s no longer amateurish. (The sex is vanilla and pretty basic.)

🍑 Mae gave Boone a piece of his favorite pie, that she perfected. How could he only take one bite, have an intimate moment, and then leave the rest behind??!

👥 It was odd that Mae's parents are only mentioned.

The huge oak tree where a young Boone carved his and Mae's initials in, is dying. It's cut down at the end.
What Mae wants to do with the wood:
🌳 I would really like to use the wood to make a stool for my prep station at The Wooden Spoon.” A reminder that Boone was her foundation. In ways she used to think were bad. But now thought of differently.
“I think we should hang the spot you carved in our house.” Above the fireplace she might already be planning.

🌳 “Still a lot of tree left.” Boone opened her door and waited as she climbed in.
🌳 Mae faced him, knowing what she was about to say was a big step. One she was only just starting to let herself consider. “I think we should make a crib.”

💝 Final Words:
♥ Mae leaned back to look at his face. “I love you.”
♥ “I love you.” Boone pressed a kiss to her lips. “Always have.” Another kiss. “Even when you wanted to kill me.”
♥ “You probably should have been more careful about that.”
♥ “I know that now.” He grinned. “I heard you’re not to be f*ked with.”
♥ Mae smiled back. “I heard that rumor too.”
♥ Boone tipped one finger under her chin. “Oh Sweetheart, that’s not a rumor.” He leaned close. “That’s a fact.”

The more books in this series I read, the more I fall in love with It!

Growing up in small town rodeo country in Central California, and as a High 4-H member, I thought I left my cowgirl days behind me. Who knew that small town Cowboy romances would become my guilty pleasure when I reached my "golden years" ! The more I read of Janice Whiteaker's Cowboys of Moss Creek series, the more I want to read her work. Cowboy Seeking a Second Chance is book 2 in the series. In it Janice introduces us to another Pace brother and his second chance romance with high school sweetheart Mae. Once again, Janice Whiteaker has me forgetting how hard, dirty and sweaty, ranching can be. Instead I long for those days past when I was content to sit on a bale of hay, dreaming of a possible future with a guy in demin with a cool hat and even better looking cowboy boots!

Janice Whiteaker has a way of making her characters seem real. Boone Pace is so real in this book, not only can I picture him, I can feel what it is like to be thoroughly kissed by a man who loves with his whole self! But as gorgeous as I imagine the Pace brothers are, it is the main female characters I really relate to! Janice Whiteaker writes about women who have more strength and personality than they give themselves credit for. And isn't that the problem most of us have. Like Mae in Cowboy Seeking Second Chance, I too have been guilty of blaming a man for breaking my heart and ruining my life, only to realize how much stronger and independent , I had become since he left! That is the magic of Janice Whiteaker. You get caught up in the romance of her well written story and only as you reach the end do you realize Janice has given you an opportunity to learn a valuable life lesson about your self! It is magical!

There is lots of steamy romance in this book, mixed with sexual tension and double entendres that will have you grinning while trying to control the melting feeling you have deep in your core! In the end you too will be shouting "Don't f*** with Mae!". But more importantly you will be shouting "Don't f*** with ME!" Janice Whiteaker has that effect on you!

What would it be like to spend a decade kicking yourself for making a bad decision?

Boone left his high school sweetheart to pursue his dream: be a pro cowboy. After Boone’s goodbye, Mae reinvented herself. Owning the best restaurant in town she’s independent and successful.
Ten years later Boone’s back to seek his second chance.

I’m not a huge fan of second chance trope but I became curious about this couple. Boone punished himself for his decision to left Mae behind, and we can fell his regret. I understand he needed to try something else for his life. If he had stay he could’ve resent her for this.
Mae was stuck in her hatred. And I get it. I’ll never judge her because she had her heart smashed and her life upside down. And she’s afraid to open up again obviously.

I enjoyed a lot reading their path to each other. ❤️
The dialogues were great with so much feelings involved, the banter between them very fun, every interaction was priceless!

Mae’s such a rich character, she’s imperfect and it was easy for me to empathize with her.
And I looooooove reading a man groveling kkkkkkkk 🗣️

I liked Camille’s plot either, how her story and Mae’s are connected! 👏🏻 The tension moments made me really nervous ☠️

The spicy scenes were few but well placed and HOT🥵🔥 ! The sexual tension growing until the climax made the moments much more relevant.

That’s Janice’s second book that I read and the end still lack closure to me. 🫠 But the experience was good enough so I hope to read more about this couple in the other books!

I don’t know if I’ve ever been so sure so quickly that a book was going to be a five star read. Maybe not even a full chapter in and I knew I was going to unequivocally love this book. I don’t even favor the second chance trope but Janice Whiteaker totally blew the trope out of the water.

I am honestly ashamed I waited so long to read this book after having enjoyed the first one. I loved Mae then, I’m obsessed with her now. The casual bonding over murder definitely made her my favorite.

The accountability in this story was insane. The maturity of characters phenomenal. The way they recognized the separation, what the time spent apart meant for each other, that even though they were the same people they were inherently different than before and that being together didn’t mean picking up where they left off, it didn’t even really mean starting over, because there’s was a love unforgotten.

If *this* is second chance romance sign me the heck up. It was done so damn well.

I am a ho for communication, for respect between partners and families, and Janice Whiteaker always delivers that in spades.

Boone wasn’t anything I expected him to be and I was so pleased by his character that I am aching for the rest of the boys and their inevitable love stories. Brett, especially, since he waltzed right up and stole my heart in this one.

Cowboy Seeking a Second Chance in the second book in Janice Whiteaker’s Cowboy Classified series. I think I have read everything Janice has written and never ever has she disappointed me! No matter what the genre – paranormal, MC, cowboys … you name it! When I finished reading the first book in the series, I knew that I will be impatiently sitting on my hands and waiting for the other Pace brothers’ stories and oh my goodness, did Janice deliver! Boone and Mae’s is a beautiful story of second chances. It is a story of youthful decisions that take us down different paths and even when they break our hearts and seem to break us, they actually help us to find ourselves!
I have always loved second chances stories as they make us work harder for what we want AND they also have taught us the difference between what we want and what we actually truly need … and so it is also with Mae and Boone … I love the strong female characters that Janice keeps giving us and for some reason I especially feel for Mae, her determination, her passion and her diner! Keep on giving us the cowboy love, cannot wait for the next book and I can only imagine what you have in store for the youngest of the Pace brothers!

second chance romance

I loved this book even more than the first. Boone and Mae were childhood sweethearts, she thought their future was planned, marriage and babies, until Boone left her to be a rodeo cowboy. Ten years later he returns home realizing although it was what he wanted at the time he was selfish and it no longer held the appeal. He still loved Mae and wants her back. His mother makes him stay in the cabins where the ranch hands live clearly not wanting him to hurt Mae again.

Mae is not the same delicate, accommodating girl he fell in love with. His leaving forced her to decide what she wanted. She became strong, independent and a business owner of the best restaurant in town. She never settled down because deep down it would always be Boone.

I loved that they made their way back to each other realizing they were different people, getting to know one another again and falling all over again. Throw in someone trying to destroy their happiness and it was gripping.

I also loved that all the characters from book one had prom

He didn't regret anything. He had tons of women over the many years and then decided ill go back and show her what he learned. And he actually said something to that effect during one of their boring discourses. She said I have higher standards now but I still hated him. I thought he was a selfish jerk. I understood why she was bitter. I just wish she wouldn't habe let him back in. I don't think there was any true grovel either. I think I may stay away from this series now. This was major disappointing. its me though. Not the author. I like unicorns and true love and sparkles and heroes that actually love the heroine so much that they don't ever look at another. And don't leave without saying goodbye. Yes they were young but I married at 18 and we are still together. Real love doesn't have to only come when your older. And it doesn't mean sleeping around until you get your fill. I didn't believe he really loved her or he wouldn't have left without a word, breaking her heart, staying away or slept with all those women. He was a pig. ruined my day. Wish I had a warning.

I really enjoyed this story. However, when I clicked and suddenly saw "epilogue" I felt the same as I do when engrossed in a TV show and suddenly the dreaded words "to be continued" appear on the screen. The story just did not feel finished at that point, and the extended epilogues only partially resolved that.

I'm not entirely clear what Mae and Boone's status is, though it appears they are together in some way. This is really the most vague resolution I've ever read and it's hard to call it a HEA.

There was a lot of additional character introduction and development in this book that clearly sets up the next book, which is good. But this added to the sense that this was part 1 of a 2-part episode arc and not a stand-alone with a complete story of a couple. I hope that the next book continues to explain what actually happened to this couple and fills in some of the gaps left in this story.

Definitely one of my favorite authors

This is the 3rd series that I have read by this author, and I am stoked to read more. This story has a roller-coaster ride of feelings. I love how Mae came back from her heartbreak like a fiery phoenix rising from the ashes of her past. I loved how both her and Boone owned up to their faults and the fact that their mistakes were made from a place of youth and not malice. Their growth apart and together were awesome. I love how this author shows strong women who don't think they need a man because they are weak, but because they realize they compliment them and make them stronger. Loved the extra bits at the end of this one, it helps to tie all of it together. Can't wait for the next in the series. I also think Brett and Camille will end up together in the end, once she starts to heal.

Mae is a proud owner of a diner and she works hard to maintain her operations. When her date did not come, she leaves the restaurant until her car breaks down which made her day worst. Then, she sees a familiar truck which she immediately knows that it belongs to Boone. She hates how he left her so he could enjoy the life on a rodeo circuit.
Boone was in a professional rodeo and he had Mae until he broke her heart to pursue his dreams. He knows that she is angry at him for breaking Mae's heart and his apologies were not enough to fix it. He realizes that she is not the same person before. Now, he wants her back again even though he has no idea how to try.
Mae plans to give Boone hell for stealing her tires. She does not want to encourage him about having a chance with her again. Boone regrets that he walked away from Mae when he was a teenager. It took him years to realize his mistake and he knows that she has the right to be angry at him for it. However, he wants to prove to her that he is a different person now.
Boone fights against Camille's husband when he threw Mae off the porch. He tells her that he came back for her and he acknowledge his foolishness to let go of the only woman he loves. He does not hide his attraction to her and he is determined to make her realize his intention.
Once upon a time, he fell in love with Mae but, one day he walked away. She could not make him stay so she build a new life on her own way. Can she give him another chance to open her heart or will they remain forever apart?
The story is interesting to read and I love how they have a tight knit family. The characters have a great chemistry and it has a good character development. I like the banter between them and the way how they knew each other back then. I enjoyed reading the story and I love that Mae and Boone have a

Boone and Mae

This one is so good. It’s an emotional second chance romance. Boone made a huge mistake ten years ago and he regretted it instantly and continues to punish himself everyday. He left Mae and the farm behind to pursue his dreams. Mae is determined to show she’s moved on and made a life for herself by running The Wooden Spoon (her restaurant) her way. She doesn’t need a man but Boone is determined to get her back. I love these two and the way they grew up and did things they wouldn’t have done if they got married ten years ago. Boone has his work cut out getting Mae to love him again and getting back in his mama’s good graces. He also has to keep Mae safe and keep her from going to jail when one of her employees shows up with bruises. Lots of laughs and love in this one. Oh yeah, there’s pie and pie jokes too.

Cowboy Seeking Second Chance

Boone and Mae were high school sweethearts and had planned to marry and have kids right after high school - until Boone decided to travel the rodeo circuit. 10 long years later he is back in Moss Creek thinking everything would pick up where it left off, what a surprise Boone had in store and it wasn't a good surprise! Mama Pace relegated Boone to the lowest position on the ranch and staying in the bunk house. Mae had very nicely moved on with her life and hated him for leaving. All Bone wants is to get Mae back and begin again with her in his life.
Now if that isn't enough, throw in a town abuser and life gets very complicated. Can Boone help out with Mae and her friend that is being abused to stop the abuse and maybe even win Mae back?

Captivating from Start to Finish

I've been waiting for this book since Cowboy Seeking a Nanny came out and Janice once again did not disappoint! This was everything I hoped it would be and more! I smiled, I swooned, I gasped.

Boone and Mae had a rocky journey. I loved how strong Mae was and how hard she tried to protect her heart. I loved how patient yet persistent Boone was in chipping away at the wall she built up. I loved that they listened to each other and owned up to their mistakes.

If you're in the mood for a good slow burn with a second chance story, you need to read this! And if you haven't read Janice Whiteaker before, what are you waiting for?

Happy to have been back in moss creak, I NEED MORE!!

Second book in what is turning out to be one of my favourite series. And what a great storyline it turned out to be. Gave me all the feels.. strong hard sexy cowboy not giving up on his strong feisty sexy sweetheart.
Love the girl gang, a fabulous group of strong females.
Love a sexed up cowboy book!
Welldone Janice - fabulous work of art.
Brilliant author, who takes time to hear her own #girlgang whilst creating masterpieces in forms of great books.
Brooks is next, but I am especially looking forward to Brett & Camilles book, especially falling in love with little Calvin bless him.
Really worth a read.

Cowboy seeking a second chance

The characters were interesting and well developed. The main characters were easy to love and the protagonist was easy to dislike. The storyline was well developed but Boone worked his way back into Mae's life with the reassurance that he had changed and was trust worthy this time. Only time will tell if he is worth taking on for a lifetime so, we as readers into their story , hope for the best. Maybe a second book into their future to see how it played out would be a good project for the author Janice Whiteaker. I look forward to more stories into the Pace family!

Boone Pace and Mae Wells were high school sweethearts. Boone’s dream was to work the rodeo, Mae’s dream was only Boone. But the minute he turned 18, Boone left without a by your leave, a decade later, Mae hasn’t forgiven, forgotten or stopped loving Boone. If there was any doubt a member of his family reminds him every day by word or deed.

But Boone learned something in the last ten years he learned he’d left the best thing of his life at home when he’d left. But Boone learned to swallow his pride in the decade he’s been gone and he’s determined to win Mae back. And he might have a chance if he can get Maggie to see neither of them are the people they once were.

I’m obsessed with this series.
Overall this series is small town, found family, strong women, cowboys, and all the love.
If you want one of those books where you just wish you could pack up and move to a town, this is one of those. You will love Moss Creek!
(I’m pretty sure my husband would fit right in…)

This specific book is a second chance romance. You will love Mae and her fierceness. You will swoon over Boone and his persistence.

I do recommend starting from book one. They are meant to be standalones but I think it’s best to read these in order.

Also-Janice is the best for not only giving epilogues but bonus scenes too. It’s the best part! I love that she does this.

In other second chance romance that I read the woman either went back right away, or she just tried her best to make the man’s life a nightmare even when it was not necessary, so I really liked how Mae was the right balance. She didn’t went straight back into Boone’s arms but also once she understood he changed and he was the right one she didn’t stepped back, and got the life she wanted. This series so far has some shocking events, it seems like most of the women had toxic relationships before ending up at the ranch, which I would suggest to write before the books starts because not everyone wants to read those stuff.
