I really enjoyed reading through this book and trying it out for myself. Even my first efforts are pretty good, and I like my second attempt especially well. There are many beautiful examples for inspiration, but truly the idea is that this is a form of art that you cannot mess up. I have also used a couple of her YouTube demonstrations for further instruction, and I am tempted to buy the DVDs. This is a great alternative to taking a workshop in person, which I wish were possible for me! The hardest part was making myself just sit down and give it a try the first time.

This was super helpful. It has a very thorough review of different materials, kinds of ink, mixers, and so on and then has step by step tutorials.

Great introduction to the medium

I first heard of alcohol ink paintings as an impromptu demo in a painting class. This book covers everything I learned there and more. So if you don't have a local teacher, this book will tell you all you need to know to get started. I next would like to find somebody using these inks on a larger format.

Basic Intro to Alcohol Ink

This book provides a basic overview of the alcohol ink medium's properties. It also describes the difference existing between different ink brands and how the act upon various materials. However, Ms. Rollins only touches the tip of the iceberg of the possibilities of alcohol ink. Dream, experiment and create! Use this as your launchpoint.

Great for Beginners

Ms Rollins describes in terms, examples and pictures everything beginners need to know to start and succeed. She is very encouraging, without overwhelming with technical terms or techniques. After reading I knew what paints and tools to buy. she actually saved me money because my list of items I thought I needed was shortened.
