A basic overview of raising backyard chickens. I didn't really learn anything new from the book, however. I might have benefited from reading it a year ago, but in the meantime online research pretty much answered my questions.
In particular, this book says not to feed them cherries, but doesn't say why. Online I have discovered that it is the pit and the leaf of the cherry that you should avoid them eating. Mine love the actual cherries. One is even called Cherryface.

Basic overview. I don’t have chickens yet and I’ve been doing some online research and flipping through other books. I’d say 4 of the 75 pages contained great info that I haven’t figure out yet,
There were some questioning portions (peaches are listed as a healthy AND unhealthy food source), and some other unhealthy options that are listed as great for chickens elsewhere.
Overall, a good beginner book to answer basic questions.

Kale is a questionable food to give to chickens? When I came across this, I began doubting the other info in this book. (Although I have to admit the rest of the book seemed to correlate with my other chicken raising research.) It's just the section on treats for chickens that conflicted with the majority of other backyard chicken experts' opinions.

I liked this book. It gave clear information about how to raise chickens with some details about how to judge bedding and how to raise the chickens from eggs or chicks.

Short, sweet and to the point.

Good information but it would've been nice to have some illustrations or photos to go along with the descriptions. Good start though.

This book gives a lot of information, but is sort of all over the place. I have looked back several times for info.

I read this for research on a chicken project I will be working on in Kenya next month. It was helpful but not fantastic.
