From New York Times and USA Today bestseller Michael Prescott, author of FINAL SINS and COLD AROUND THE HEART, comes CHASING OMEGA, a 30,000 word paranormal thriller. "Do you believe in life after death?" It's a question Daniel Brand finds himself answering after he picks up a mysterious woman on the side of an Arizona highway long after midnight. The issue isn't merely philosophical. His passenger, Claire Holland, is a psychic medium on the run from a secret conspiracy holding the key to the truth about life, death ... and what comes after. CHASING OMEGA is a fast-paced, twist-and-turn story of pursuit and betrayal, seasoned with cosmological speculation and spiritual exploration, from one of America's most widely read ebook writers.
Douglas Borton grew up in New Jersey and attended Wesleyan University, then moved to Los Angeles and pursued a career as a screenwriter. After working with several independent producers, he eventually switched to writing novels, a much less stressful occupation. He has published 25 thrillers, starting with horror novels in the 1980s and continuing with suspense and crime novels in the '90s and beyond. His latest book is Bad to the Bone (2015), a sequel to Blood in the Water (2014). After twenty years in traditional publishing, he went the indie route in 2011 and has become one of America's bestselling ebook writers.
Interesting diversion from Mr. Prescotts usual fare. Paranormal mixed with some verifyable facts, and some fast paced action make for a decent read. I was left wanting more, perhaps because I enjoyed the subject matter and a lot was alluded to, but there lacked some depth. Though during an afterword there was a further reading list, fully hyperlinked and all. I read much of Mr. Prescott and welcomed this one, though I would have liked to go deeper into the program (albeit fictitous) that the book is based on.
Lots of interesting paranormal ideas in this novella. Michael Prescott has done his research, and the story is successful. The plot is "out there", and it leaves one hanging for an update on what has happened in the six months to a year Claire and Dan are at the Institute. Chasing Omega was a fun, quick read.
This is a departure from Prescott's usual style, and ventures into a different genre. It wasn't my cup of tea, but I appreciated some of the humor and he surely did his homework on the subject matter.
So often we hear the same tired cynical view. It's great to see hope and life taken seriously as something more than a meaningless by product. All that and a good fast moving story.
