Even though the title of the book is about how to "increase your energy", everyone - and women in particular - should give this a read, because the author talks in detail about hormones and the part they play in regulating our body systems, a critical topic which too few people currently know about, including doctors themselves! As the author is an endocrinologist, she looks at ailments and other health issues from the perspective of hormones first and foremost, in relation to the entire body. This is a much needed viewpoint in the medical world as hormones are practically in charge of, or involved in, almost everything in the human body, and failing to consider them, or not understanding how they work, makes you miss out on a huge part of the big picture.

There is no need to read through every chapter; just select ones that are relevant to you, though reading the entire book gives you a better idea of just how much hormones are involved in every single aspect of your life.

Throughout the book, the author cites numerous case studies of patient conditions and their subsequent treatment. This is useful in that you may find a case similar to yours, and can then extrapolate the course of action you should take in order to help remedy your situation. Sometimes this may involve taking a blood test (which may reveal hormonal imbalances, including thyroid conditions, etc), changing your diet, changing your lifestyle, etc.

Some chapters also provide explanations for why you may be encountering the issues you face. E.g. A lack of iodine may be behind an enlarged thyroid gland; elevated cortisol levels may be the cause of acne and a whole host of other problems; irregular mealtimes or skipped meals may be wreaking havoc on your body's entire hormonal system, etc etc.

Basically, a lot of what this book contains are explanations, facts, and other stuff that you won't ever find out from your GP. There is also brief mention of alternative treatments and how they may be beneficial.

A must-read especially if you want to find out more about what's going on with your body, and/or why you're suddenly experiencing things you never did, and so on!

There are young people who look very old: what this lack of energy is due to?

The great book "Vaincre the fatigue: accroître are énergie en huit étapes" Eva Cwynar has very good tips that will comment in general:

Eating: at least processed as possible.
Take care of your stomach: maintaining intestinal flora (careful with antibiotics).
Stress: try to minimize it.
Sex: all you can but at least three times a week.
Exercise: constant, aerobic, strength and stretching, balanced the three.
Sleep: at least eight hours.

Interested to know more? I highly recommend the book.
