A groundbreaking book when published, “The Twelve Steps for Christians” is a powerful resource for merging the practical wisdom of the Twelve Steps with the spiritual truths of the Bible. It combines recovery and spirituality to give Christians an effective way to work a twelve-step program with Jesus Christ as their Higher Power.

The authors have a theoretical understanding of the Twelve Steps as well as a personal understanding as a result of their own recovery journey. They know from first-hand experience how God can use the spiritual essence of the Twelve Steps to transform broken lives, heal emotional damage from the past, and mend shattered relationships. The book includes “Common Behavior Characteristics” that help one identify with their hurtful behavior.

The book includes a meeting format and review questions for each step. The format is very effective when used in support groups. It includes ideas and guidelines for choosing and working with a recovery partner. Other important aspects of the book are; “Step Overviews” to assist in understanding, working, and preparing the step; “Helpful Hints” to aid the reader in areas of prayer, meditation and Bible study; and “Key Ideas” in each step to reinforce central concepts.

The book adapts the Twelve Steps that were written over seventy five years ago when Alcoholics Anonymous was founded. This program teaches us how God uses the healing power of the Twelve Steps as a way to restore the lives of countless individuals. Members of Alcoholics Anonymous carry the healing message to others, acknowledging that they know what it feels like to be broken by life and mended by God. It is dedicated to all those who have found healing through the twelve-step program, and who continue to choose to share their experience, strength and hope with those still searching.

I've been attending an Alanon group and have been helped a lot by the people there and the materials we use. But this is exactly what I needed. Being guided by God's Word "and" the principles within the 12 steps has me on a journey. I'm changing. I believe this book, as I read and reread will grow my intimacy with the Lord, and help me to trust Him in greater ways.

This book was a loan from a dear friend. I loved this book and the healing that is found in its pages. The Scripture used to illustrate the steps leapt off the pages, and the book ministered to me. It is used in Celebrate Recovery, a Bible based recovery program.

A really helpful summary.

When someone becomes a Christian they are on the road to recovery but they are not yet there. Transformation takes time, involves a process, and demands willingness from each individual to follow each step rigorously with the support of others.

We used this book at our New Hope meetings. A good book for Christians to add scripture to the 12-step program.

This is the revised edition. I have both books and like both of them. I use them for reference so go back to them when in need of reading and inspiration and courage to change the things I can.
