When I tell you the hero gave me creepy rapist vibes, I’m not exaggerating. The hero went from sweet to having the most disturbing thoughts and conversations about the heroine you could ever imagine. If I ever heard a guy talk the way he did when the heroine was ignoring him, I’d have called the police.
“He shakes his head in disbelief. “You can’t just take whatever you want from good girls like her.” I frown.”
“Why?” “Because you can’t take a good girl the way you want to. “Not the first time, anyway. Not the first twenty times, actually.” “What do you mean? That’s ridiculous, I’ll take them how I want them, and they’ll fucking love it.” What a ridiculous notion. I’ve never had a woman not want to come back for more. “You have to train them up, they aren’t wired like us. You have to train their body and mind to take us how we want to take them,” Ben says.”
EXCUSE ME? YOU HAVE TO TRAIN WOMEN TO GET THEM TO LET YOU FUCK THEM HOWEVER YOU WANT? WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY???
Here’s the hero after he’s spent the past week calling her nonstop and she doesn’t respond.
“It’s Thursday and I’m sitting in the car as I wait for Ben and Jesten to come out. I call Tully’s phone number for the fiftieth time this week.My anger is at an all-time high. How dare she not answer my calls? Who the fuck does she think she is? The phone drops out without the call going through, and I narrow my eyes. I dial again, and it does the same thing. She’s blocked my number. She wouldn’t.”
He then proceeds to use someone else’s phone to try to get her to answer. when she does he screams at her for having blocked his number.
Let’s not even get into the part of he book where he drags her out of a bar and back to his car and screams at her for having let someone kiss her. He pulls her hair and pulls her face to him to tell her he owns her.
This is not romance. Stop romanticizing abusive heroes that encourage rape culture. This was sick
To top it all off, when he finally does leave her alone he goes and has multiple threesomes with random girls.
Firstly the h has a steady boyfriend since she was 15. He loves her and wants to marry her. But she is kinda bored and wants a break from the relationship for 1 year. Fine. Then after some 9 months she meets the H in a gym and then they hook up. Both are attracted to each other. But when she sees her ex with a girl in a bar she is suddenly feeling angry. Wow. I mean she can hook up and flirt with other guys but when her ex does that she is angry. And plus the h’s theory that there are two types of guys in this world. One who are fuckable and sexy but not marriageable. And then who are marriageable but not fuckable. So her fiancé is marriageable. And the H is fuckable.
I didn’t read any further. I do wonder but what exactly was the h to her fiancé. Fuckable or marriageable???
*This is like the third time I re-read it and I can't decide how to rate this so I'll probably change it later*
This is Tully and Brock's story. Tully (h) dated Simon since she was 15 yrld, now at 25, he proposes to her but she begins to doubt their love-relantionship so they take a break to explore ~the world~ Eight months later she meets Brock (H) at the gym. He is totally different from the sweet Simon, he's a dominant asshole.
The story had all the potential but, where to star...
- The first time, Brock goes straight to anal without asking for her consent. THAT scene was so unreal and it made me so mad.
- After this Tully doesn't want to have any relationship with him so they don't see each other for almost two months. At that time Brock wasn't celibate and there is a scene of him after he had fucked two twins (so clichw). Even in those two months he had sex with three women at the same time 💀 Personally, this pissed me off, yeah, they weren't together, but I hate all that shit about him fucking dozens of women to find out he's probably in love cuz u know, sex doesn't feel the same blablah.
- Tully was so annoying. She tells Brock that she is going back to her ex and doesn't understand why he's so angry okey bestie, years of relationship, the perfect couple etc. You obviously don't love him when you don't give a shit about him fucking other people!!! and god all that scene of her upset to see Simon with OW when she was doing the same thing.🤪 and again I get it, it's hard to move on after almost ten years of relationship, but she really got on my nerves.
▪️some minor things that I didn't like but didn't care for▪️
- Those nicknames for her pussy like "Princess Pussy Porridge" Lmao. the breakfast of champions.
- The drama btw Tully and Brock at the end, the author decided to make Simon sick. WHY???? So unnecessary.
- The whole plot about prostitutes sometimes looked like ¿¿¿??? It got a bit lost in the story.
▪️what i liked▪️
- The scene where Tully meets Brock's family was cute.
- Tully's friend Meredith
- The epilogue. Short but kindda cute.
~ My relationship with this book is love/hate cuz seriously there are some cute scenes but others that make me want to bang my head against a wall.

this book would be better if the first 40% didn't exist lol
this is the worst thing ive read out of the 400 books i've finished in the past 11 months.
flaming hot fucking garbage. if any of you actually find this desirable or sexy or whatever the hell, then you need to get yourself evaluated sis. this is is peak abusive/rapist behavior. yelling/screaming/flying fists/yanking/sneering/ and demanding you will DO what you want to a woman and she 'better damn like' is so beyond fucking disgusting i would lichrally set a motherfuckers balls on fire if i came across a demon like that.
fuck this book
here's a taste of what to expect (this is near the 90% mark btw):
Tully has been with her boyfriend since she was 15 years old. They have shared all their firsts through high school and college. In her eyes he is the perfect guy. The next step would be marriage but the thought of committing to Simon for the rest of her life right now is causing doubt in Tully's mind. She thinks they need to experience more, on their own, before making a decision to marry. Twelve months is what they agree to, they can do what they want with who they want and then they will pick up where they left off. I can't see any flaws in that plan can you?
Eight months later... Tully has joined a new gym and on her first visit meets Brock Marx. The very sexy, sensual man who is about to completely flip her world on its head. Brock is a hot, dominant, alpha male. He is used to women falling at his feet, let's face it, he is fucking gorgeous and knows exactly what to do with his generous sized body parts, when it comes to pleasing a lady. Tully gets a small taste of it and she is hooked. Well kind of.
'God, Brock's like another species of man entirely, one I'm not used to.'
To be fair, Tully's senses are completely overwhelmed when she collides with the force of Brock. He is unlike any man she has ever met. Most of time he infuriates her but there is something about him that gets under her skin. Brock is feeling completely conflicted with what is feeling for Tully. She is like no other woman he has met in his lifetime. She pushes his buttons, makes him feel angry some of the time and intensely turned on the rest. She makes him feel crazy.
'Feminine, confident, sexy as fuck... and she's all mine. I've been waiting to feel like this my whole life.'
This crazy man whore is about to be schooled on how to romance a girl. He is way out of his comfort zone. Tully experiences an awakening like nothing she could ever imagine and OMG, hang onto your knickers ladies, make sure your vibrator is charged because things are about to get very hot in here!
I started this to read this book late one night as I slipped into bed. 'I'll just read the first few chapters' I told myself and 10 chapters later I had to force myself to put the book down at 1.00am to get some sleep. Sleep did not come easily because I was completely aroused and all I wanted to do was keep reading. Needless to say I was sneak reading at work the following day and completely inhaled the remainder of this addictive story when I got home. I thought it would take me a few days to read this 542 page book but in less than 24 hours I had completely consumed it and I loved every moment of it.
It has taken me a few days to get my mind around what I wanted to say about Gym Junkie, or whether I wanted to say anything at all. I realise that others will not share my views but the more time I’ve spent thinking about this book, the more I realised I needed to write my review.
I enjoyed almost the first 25% of this book. It was hot and steamy and gave me more than one laugh. However, I began to feel rather uneasy as the story progressed, particularly in relation to a character called Meredith, who was quite forthright in a pretty outrageous way. I’m not easily offended, especially when it comes to fiction and I enjoy a quirky character as much as the next person, but I became increasingly turned off this story by the continued use of the word “weird” when describing Meredith. Once it was explained that Meredith was “on the spectrum” that really should have put the nail in the coffin of this story for me. As the mother of a teenager with ASD, I take exception to someone with a mental disability being described as weird and used in a less than positive way for comedic purposes. Would it be acceptable to disrespect someone with a physical disability in this way? Meredith’s mother was also apparently on the spectrum but after getting to know her, Tully declares “she is not as bad as I first thought”. Well thank goodness for that! Nevertheless, I pressed on, thinking that maybe I was being overly sensitive.
I’m afraid things didn’t get any better for me the more I read. I found Brock to be violent and domineering in an abusive, not an endearing, way. The first sexual encounter between him and Tully really pushed the boundaries of consent when it came to one particular “backdoor” moment which took place without any prior conversation. Tully too was not a likeable character. Selfish and hypocritical, she really had no redeeming features in my eyes.
Lots of editing errors, excessive use of the words “frown”, “weird” and “crazy”, together with my dislike of the main characters makes this a definite no from me.
I don't know what it is about TL Swan books but I love them. They're so angsty, and, while I don't usually do angsty, she writes them on a way that is so easy to read.
I LOVE BROCK!!! He is such an unapologetic alpha-male with the temperament (and temper tantrums) of a two-year-old. He's so adorable and frustrating at the same time. Tully, on the other hand, is such a good girl. She is always trying to do the right thing and feels so guilty for not feeling as much for her childhood boyfriend that she shoots herself in the foot with her relationship with Brock. There were a lot of times throughout the book that I just wanted to shake some sense into Tully.
I love this book! I'm hoping she continues writing about the guys who work for Brock. I think Jesten's story needs to be told, or possibly Tully's best friend Callie...or maybe even Callie and Jesten get together (hint, hint).
DNF @ 15% Second hook up they have sex in gym shower he goes straight for anal without consulting with her...just surprises her during that act? Hell no and extremely unrealistic. Not to mention I'm not a fan of the h taking a year long break from her childhood sweetheart to explore the world but then gets upset when she sees her ex with someone else?! Fickle much? She wants her cake and to eat it too. Not OK, sister. 1*that's being generous * stars
Heroine is a vacillating hypocrite who breaks up with high school sweetheart in order to travel and live before they marry and yet gets upset when she sees him out on a date after she got finger fucked by the new guy just the other night. And the H (who is not the high school dude) basically has anal with her without asking or preparing or anything during the first time they get it on. And then the h goes home and has a complete meltdown in the shower crying in shame because she liked anal.
Amei! Adoro os livros dessa autora. Ela sabe contar uma história. O casal principal é inesquecível. Brock é o cara!!!!! Sinceramente, não queria que acabasse. Vale muito a leitura.
Hands down, T.L. Swan writes some of the hottest stories with f*cking hot alphas!
Brock & Tully are the opposite in everything except in not wanting a serious relationship. Brock's never had the urge to want to settle down but when Tully comes into his life he might just change his mind.
The chemistry between Brock & Tully was H.O.T-especially one of the first scenes they are together in the gym bathroom. One thing that's for sure is that there are plenty of hot scenes but there's also some mystery in trying to find a killer that is out to get anyone that gets in his way.
Now there were a couple of times I wanted to smack some sense into Brock because his stubborn attitude was just slap worthy but he made it up in other areas ;-) Be prepared to get lost in their story and not want to put it down until your questions have been answered! Kara~ 5 HOT Stars
I liked this one. Maybe I have too high expectations for books that are over 3 stars, but I don't really care. 4 stars is a high rating, not all of the good ones deserve it. It has to be a great read for that!
Well, I mean, the book was fun at times and a bit boring at others. The characters were decent (no depth but fun at times) and the plot was pretty good as well (nothing special, but I'm not really looking for that in a romance (it's almost impossible to find anyway)).
What I really liked was the writing style. Don't think I've read this author before (or if I had it was a long time ago) and I can say that I really like her!
I'd say, give this book a try. Or at least try the author, she's worth it!
I am torn about my feelings for this book. After reading Mr. Masters by this same author, and loving it, I thought I'd try something else. Gym Junkie was not Mr. Masters. I don't even know how I even finished this book, it's so so bad on one hand but there's just something I liked about it.
First of all, the hero is an asshole. He gets better towards the end but for most of the book, especially the beginning, he is an entitled jackass who deserves to get his balls cut off. And I don't mean the sexy kind of asshole, no. Brock is mean, rough and condescending. I honestly couldn't believe what he was saying and doing most of the time. He does get better as the story goes on but it takes quite a while and I couldn't get over his initial behavior. To put it simply, if a man treated me half as badly as Brock treated Tully, I'd have dumped him and called the police on his ass.
I liked the heroine at first but, oh the stupidity. She went from being a good character to being the stupidest most annoying heroine out there. The decisions she took made absolutely no sense to me and she made me so angry, I even had to vent on twitter (<-- that's when you know it's bad).
The plot in itself was entertaining and kept me interested in the story but it was kind of all over the place. I feel like the author tried her hand at romantic suspense but didn't go all the way there and it failed. It could've been very good but she did things halfway and it didn't really work. I also think she mixed too many different genres together and it made a mess of a book.
To be honest, even with all that, I actually enjoyed some parts of this book. That's what I mean when I say I'm torn, because there are so many wrong things about Gym Junkie, it's over the top, the hero is the biggest asshole there is, the heroine is Miss Stupid, the plot is inconsistent and there are so many typos but, somehow, I didn't hate it. I hated parts of it but there were times where I actually enjoyed myself and I found myself rooting for Brock and Tully.
Would I recommend this book? Probably not. I would, however, recommend Mr. Masters by T.L. Swan.
I am beyond disappointed in this book. I had high hopes for this story line too, which it could have been a good one had Brock not been psycho, for lack of a better word!! I even feel like it started out with a good start, but with Brock's moodswings it just gave me whiplash! One scene he was what i would call endearing and in the next he was this overbearing, jealous ape! I really wish that i was about to enjoy this book and give it a great review, but unfortunately i just couldn't deal with Brock!
Well.. Holy hotness! What a book! Finally read a great 5-star book after a really long time The story kept me captivated and the smut was off the charts hot! my god! I wont spoil anything because you have to read it.
GYM JUNKIE is Brock Marx’s story. And in true TL Swan fashion, she gives us another handsome, dirty-mouthed alpha-hole who hardly has a romantic bone in his body. Well, as commitment-phobe as he is, there’s no need for that anyway, or is there? So you see, a real catch of a man and every girl’s mother’s dream of a son-in-law. And still, it was so easy to fall for him. Well, I did, anyways. It’s just the kind of hero – flaws and all – that speaks to me … every damn time.
Tully is the total opposite of that man – caring and soft and, well, a tiny bit chaotic too – and maybe that’s why they match so perfectly.
These two meet in a gym, where Tully is instantly drawn to Brock in all his glorious jerk-iness. Tully, a girl who decided she needed a break from a 9-year-old relationship with her high school sweetheart.
This is a big book, which includes it all – the smiles, the flirts, the sexiness to melt your panties, the cheekiness in between, even a flare of angst and mystery and just the right amount of emotion – yeah, even where Brock is concerned.
Of course, it’s also connected to the Stantons, which are always a fun bunch of characters to revisit (if you haven’t read the series – you absolutely should). Generally, this story is so uniquely TL Swan and I’m already looking forward to whichever story she brings us next.
How to explain this book... It was “different”.... it took me all day to read and though it was annoying the hell out of me I was invested enough that I continued to read it. This book is called Gym Junkie but the gym is literally only part of about .5% of this book. This book was absolutely all over the place. Tully was a true pain in the ass. She decides she needs a year break from her 10 year relationship before they get married and then obsesses over everything Simon does the entire time when it was HER who decided to have the break in the first place. She meets Brock who’s alpha to the extreme and realizes maybe Simon isn’t her soulmate. Yeah well no shit Sherlock. Then there’s a whole murder mystery in the background, as well as Tully pushing for a relationship and falling in love with with a man who is closed off, cold, borderline psycho, who she barely knows. This book kept me engaged but wholly fuck was it all over the place.
I can imagine how many people would hate the hero and be pissed with the heroine. For me personally, all the flaws in the characters made those two very real.
The book is all over the place at times, with so much happening, with lots of back and forth... Again, Swan's language is noticeably repetitive and sometimes I spot same phrases used on just neighbouring pages, which means she really needs a good proofreader and a better editor... (I'm not even a native speaker and notice those things.)
But I'm okay with that, because, strangely enough, her writing is very good. And damn, how well Swan writes her perfectly imperfect characters and shows their growth!!
This book will be definitely not everyone's cup of tea. The hero's dominance and stubbornness, the heroine's indecisiveness and sometimes naivety will annoy people. But I really liked those two and everything happening between and around them. So yeah, a good one.
My friends with similar taste as mine in reading are giving it low grades so I decided not to try it at all although I was interested in it at the beginning.
Brock is one HOT tempered alphahole 🔥 He started out as strong male but somewhere along the way went a bit too soft for me throwing tantrums like toddler and just lost his edge. To be fair his territorial trait with Tully was shown throughout.
Loved Tully having a backbone and she stood up for herself but again went overly sappy. She fell in love pretty quickly and it felt rushed into and used the words making love very early on.
Didn't enjoy knowing about the OM/OW but I suppose they weren't technically together so shouldn't make a difference I suppose.
I felt sad for Simon through out this book as he is portrayed as a really great boyfriend who was only giving Tully the space she wanted even though it would separated them 💔 and ultimately lead to the end of their relationship.
There are some fucking funny moments where Meredith was concerned....she is definitely a hoot!!
I struggled with some of the character builds etc....Tully not knowing what Blow is but she works for the police forensics, Brock not knowing what to do when Tully gets taken but HOLD ON isnt he ex Navy Seal 🤔.....just didn't add up to me.
Esse foi um grande NÃO pra mim, não me envolvi com nada desse livro. Não gostei da história, não gostei dos personagens, não gostei de nada. Então NOPS, definitivamente NÃO.
Ugh, i really hoped my friends were wrong. I’ve read some other reviews before starting this book and they weren’t quite positive, but i thought “hey, this is T.L. Swan, i like her, what can go wrong?”. Unfortunately, this heroine is as exasperating as other readers portraited her to be and Brock Marx isn’t that lovely either. 😔
First of all, the premise is just wrong. Some couldn’t get past the first 30-40% of the book, just because little miss Tully just broke up with her nine years boyfriend, her one and only ever boyfriend, just because he wanted to marry her and she wanted a year break to “explore” the world. 🙄 I mean, there might not be something so terrible about it, but then, if you claim to love him so much, why do you need a break and not just break things off for good? Why the limbo dance? During that separations, one night at the gym she meets Brock and within the next half an hour she just lets him fuck her in the bathroom. 😐 Trigger alert: And that’s how the love triangle starts and many drop the book.
It might not seem like a love triangle, but when feelings start to develop between Tully and Brock and their relationship progresses, she actually says something like “oh, by the way. You’re just a guy a want to fuck for a few months, but then i will go back to my (ex)boyfriend”. :insert bitch slap: Then, through out the story she will keep doing and saying stupid shit like that, so she’s quite impossible to love. I’ve really tried to justify some of her actions, but i came up short.
Now Brock. Alpha cavemen, foul mouthed, notorious playboy and a little bit of a jerk who doesn’t do the girlfriend/relationship thing, but gets really offended when Tully says that about him and their “relationship’s expiration date”. Usually, this type of hero gets better towards the end, but that’s not the case here. He remains just the same and also, i feel like each jerk asshole hero had a reason for being that way, but Brock doesn’t.
The thing is, even if i didn’t like a lot of things about this book, it still kept me awake until 3am and i couldn’t put it down. Maybe because this author’s really good, even this particular main characters are a little bit of a “failure” or something like that.
2.25 Basically for Brock. This one started off okay and then just declined gradually with every extra plot twist and every reckless action by the main girl Tully. Brock was a bit much too but atleast he always knew what he wanted and was honest about it. To say I was disappointed is, well.. accurate since I loved reading The Takeover and thought this one would be a winner too. There were a few laughs to be had but outside of that and the steamy parts wasn’t really into it.
First, this can be read as a standalone but it makes the first part of the book difficult to follow. I have read the previous books, Dr. Stanton and Marx Girl, but it's been a long time and I didn't remember much of them. I didn't even realize they were part of this series at first. The author throws so much information at you in the first chapter - what felt like 30 characters, Brock's business that was only briefly explained, and a murder case that they're discussing small details about when we don't even know the big details. It was overwhelming as a reader.
On only their second interaction, Brock and Tully hook up in their gym's bathroom. For one, how romantic. Second, Brock thinks it's a good idea to go up her ass, without asking, and somehow that's just okay?! WTF. Although Tully eventually enjoys it in the moment, she later feels shameful, dirty, and cuts all communication off with Brock. Brock doesn't even realize what he did wrong until Ben has to clue him in. What an egotistical manwho*re.
I think most people love a take-charge, alpha male but Brock was just way over the top, to the point of being a controlling, stalking, narcissistic a**hole. When Tully blocked his number, he called her on Ben's phone and berated her for blocking him, then proceeded to hunt her down at work. Brock almost beat a drunk guy to death for getting handsy with Tully and couldn't understand why she was upset. How about when he threw her male co-worker to the ground just for sitting next to her? He demanded that Tully call Simon, her ex-boyfriend, in front of him while dumping the guy, or else he wasn't going to give their relationship a try. She asks him not to tell her family they're moving in together, but he does to prove a point to her step-brother. When Simon receives life-changing news, Brock agrees that Tully should go see him, but then gets pissed when she wants to be there for him and makes it all about himself. He let her cry on his front porch in the rain and ignored her. When she begged him to take her back, he told her he wished he'd never met her. When he sees her kissing someone else, he drags her to his car and has sex with her. And, to top it off, while they're separated in the first part of the book he sleeps around and even has a threesome. Wow, what great boyfriend material! Yet, somehow, Tully manages to look past all these red flags and finds his possessive, controlling behavior acceptable.
Tully definitely had her flaws as well. For instance, she wanted a break from her boyfriend of nine years but then gets upset when she sees him with another girl and sleeps with Brock as payback. Oh, and shall we talk about the love triangle she caused between her, Simon and Brock? Or when Brock didn't want her back so she flirted with every guy in sight to intentionally piss him off?
Brock's few redeeming abilities absolutely did not outweigh his bad ones. This story took the idea of a possessive, alpha male and did a piss poor imitation of it. The only part of the book I really enjoyed was when Brock was being sweet and a normal, loving boyfriend (which wasn't often).
This author has really evolved form her first set of books! It has a 4.15 overall rating, but was surprised by so many one and two stars that popped up for this book when I looked at the individual ratings, because I enjoyed it!
Brock Marx, was like a super-de-duper alpha! I still don’t know if I love him or not!! He is the most unromantic romantic, yet I felt for him when his heart was broken. He was another strong silent type, and ex-military...swoon! Tully, had a really hard set of decisions to make...I can’t ever imagine being in her position.
Meredith was some kind of special treat!!! LMAO This author can absolutely crack me up out of the dang blue!
At the end of this book the author mentions an extended epilogue for Brock, and Tully. That would be great, as the ending was pretty short, and I know I’d enjoy more from these two! When Brock wasn’t pissed off or brooding, his character was addictive! Can’t wait for more book that include the original gang!
I go to the gym regularly and I'm sorry but that preposterous scene at the gym!! I just thought what a crock of sh*t!!!! He is on the rower and she is on the treadmill when the chain on the rower snaps (yeah right) and it gets tangled in her treadmill which makes her fall off and hurt herself.
BUT if that wasn't bad enough the sex scene that followed just had me rolling my eyes and thinking f*ck this sh*tty book and gave up. I'm pleased I did as reading other comments the second hook up is just as absurd!!!
Terminei e agora fiquei querendo o epílogo estendido.
