This manga started with the disappearance of beloved character, Red. No one truly knows what happened to him but everyone wants to find out.
His Pikachu, now following a young boy named Yellow, has mysterious powers and a kind heart.

Most of the same characters from the last three volumes make an appearance in this one, asking the same question, what happened to Red?
We follow young Yellow as he tries to answer that question, meeting Red's friends along the way.

We also see the strongest trainers in the Kanto region, the Elite Four...do they have something to do with Red's disappearance? (The answer is yes, yes they do).
Do the Elite Four have another reason to stand against Yellow and Red other than securing their undefeated status or is the plot thicker than that?

Things have gotten a little weird here, and definitely far darker than I expected. Criss-crossed with webs of conspiracy, the otherwise bright world of Pokemon has been mired into something truly horrific. Born of a particularly harsh introduction, things only get darker and darker from here on out.

Contravening any expectations, the simple rabbit hole we’ve tumbled down has branched all across the roads previously trodden. Firmly binding the past with the present, we are all sucked into the maw of the latest ever-growing conspiracy. Firmly branching from well laden roots of the previous, the darkness here is well textured, labyrinthine and ultimately well cured from its established precedents.

Crushing any predictable predictions evinced by the poppy productions of yore could portend, Pokemon Adventures Vol. 4 continues to astonish fans and newbies alike. Moving from its ostensible simplicities, this volume proves that its staying power is as much birthed from its intrinsic appeal as it is from the fantastic creativity of its production team.

This one just might bear a repeat read.

lemme just say i’ve been a pokémon fan since 2003 and have played and replayed and watched the anime, specifically in kanto, so many times. getting a new story and new protagonist that does not follow the games or anime is doing it for me. it is so nice to explore kanto again but in a fresh way i’ve never experienced before. Yellow is such refreshing and dynamic character (sick of red’s antics and personality); i liked the little backstory we got and can’t wait for more. i love what they’re doing w the elite 4 and makes them feel daunting in the best way possible. Long love the kanto region - i wish the game would b like this

Coming hot off the heals of the main Red and Blue storyline, now we enter the story of Yellow. A very mysterious young boy who seems to know a lot about Red and Pika. With some unexplained and mysterious abilities, Yellow brings a certain uncertainty to the story. So rarely is your lead character the one wrapped in mystery. This volume, and entire arc feels like a conspiracy all revolving around the disappearance of Red. I'm hyped to see how all of it ends!

Red disappears in this book and everyone wants to know where Red is. Red disappeared when Red and Bruno (one of elite four) had a battle at an unknown place. This weird boy named yellow of the Viridian forest started a rescue team with pikachu (pikachu escaped Red's and Bruno's battle) . I liked this book because I think the rescue team for Red is forming fast!

The book pokemon Adventures is by Hidenori Kusaka. The book is about taking most of the pokemon on a field trip, but what happens when things get out of control. I liked the book because of all the action and humor. I recommend this book to comic book lovers because it's a comic book.

In part 4 of this manga series, the story takes a dark turn as Red disappears! Focusing on a new character gives a fresh new spin on this grittier version of the Pokémon world, and Red's disappearance adds a cool mystery to solve.

A lot of fun revisiting a book series I had as a child, and a fair challenge for where I'm at right now with Japanese. Volume 1 to 7 covers the first generation and feels like a nice cap-off at least for now. Yellow is an endearing protagonist, and the story, while nothing extraordinary, is full of nice art and a sweet ending.

Het is 2 jaar geleden dat Red de Pokémon League gewonnen heeft. Maar hij is nog niet klaar met trainen. Hij vervolgd zijn reis maar dit keer alleen zijn gewonde Pikachu terug.
Een mysterieuze trainer wordt vrienden met Pikachu en samen gaan ze opzoek naar Red.

In dit deel leer je een nieuw personage kennen: Amarillo Del Bosque Verde - Yellow of the Viridian Forest oftewel Yellow. En wat een leuk personage is Yellow, ik denk dat hij één van mijn favorieten is. Maar ook oude bekenden keren terug om Red te zoeken.
Er zit ook een flashback in van 2 jaar geleden. Gelukkig was dit duidelijk aangeven en niet verwarrend.

Hoewel er minder gevechten in dit deel zaten, vond ik dat niet erg. Het is meer een introductie van Yellow, die ook nog eens een geheim heeft.

Een ontzettende aanrader! Ik ben benieuwd naar het vijfde deel.

I think this has been my favourite Volume so far. I really enjoyed Yellow as a protagonist, she was a lot of fin in her brief appearance in Volume 3 and it's really cool to see her bumped up to the lead. I enjoy her Pokemon team as well and feel I know Rattu and Dody nearly as well as Reds old team.

I think it's also cool how established the world and it's characters are now that we're 40 or so chapters in. The Good Gym Leaders, Bill, Green and Blue all make a return and are all in keeping with them selves.

The battles were really well done too. I found some of the fights in previous volumes (especially the front half of 3) to be a little messy at times but these were easier to follow and all had exciting and clever solutions for Yellow to come out on top which was nice to see.

The art it pretty as ever, with a very cute Growlith and Caterpie being my personal highlights. Overall this was a great read and I look forwards to reading Volume 5.

This is a review for Pokémon Adventures Volumes 4-7 (Yellow). Two years have passed since the end of Volume 3. Red goes missing after receiving a letter of challenge by another trainer and suddenly this unknown kid shows up in Pallet Town wanting to look for him. As I progressed through Volumes 4 and 5, while okay, it felt like something was missing. Yes we started getting an introduction of the Elite Four but following Yellow, it felt like the stakes just weren’t really there. Yellow isn’t that great of a trainer, if you can even call her that, as she doesn’t really want to catch any, doesn’t want the ones she has to evolve, and barely wants to use them in battle if it means either side might get hurt. But she has these mysterious powers that allow her to communicate and heal Pokémon.

However, starting with Volume 6 this arc starts picking up a bit. We finally delve into what happened to Red and certain characters come back for the final showdown with the Elite Four. During these final battles, even Yellow shows how much she’s picked up from all the skilled trainers she’s met through her journey. Overall, the Yellow arc is decent enough though not as good as Red’s arc; honestly unless some huge event harkens back to this story it can just be skipped. But I’m looking forward to continuing on to the Gold/Silver arc, especially since the ending of Volume 7 was setting up the journey to Johto!

This volume loses a bit of steam after the epic arc conclusion that was volume 3 of the series. This one sees the introduction of a new protagonist in Yellow - who uses a bunch of hodgepodge of unevolved Pokemon – replace Red as the series' focus. The main premise for this new arc of the series is that Red has been shanghaied by The Elite Four. His Pikachu escapes, and it is up to Yellow and Red's Pikachu to save Red. You can tell the writers of the series had a hard time figuring out how to treat the first third version “mid-quel” game when Pokemon Yellow came out. The series is trying to essentially shoehorn another character into the mix after the fact. You can forgive it, because Pokemon Yellow was the first game of it's type to present this weird type of handling of the official game time line.
Anyway, this volume takes a bit of a step back in terms of pacing and content. I can tell it's going to build to something soon, so this rating isn't much of a bad thing, it's just an accurate rating for the level this series has been so far (mostly 5's for me). I enjoyed seeing The Elite Four, and Yellow's fight with Lorelei had all the qualities I like in the action parts of this series.
3 stars. Nothing bad, but not the greatest this series has to offer. Looking forward to volume 5.

In this book, a new character is introduced into the series, and her name is Yellow. She is the main character in the next few books, and she introduces the fact that Red, hero from the previous three books has mysteriously gone missing after a pokemon tournament. The one clue that leads Yellow on a journey to find him was his crippled pikachu that barely made it back to Red's home town. Yellow had to convince Red's professor that she was a special trainer, just like Red and his affiliates. One theme that comes up in this book is friendship. Yellow's bond with her pokemon and her new pikachu grows every moment that they spend on this journey. The main character meets lots of new friends that give Yellow and her crew assistance. But, they need to make sure to keep an eye out for old and new enemies they might make along the way.

The fourth volume is a mixed bag for me. The middle section, especially Super Nerd, feels rushed and unfocused, throwing a thousand ideas out to see what will stick.

However, I am intrigued by Yellow's powers, the Elite Four are given a good starting place to build from, and I am immediately biased towards any character with a name like Amarillo del Bosque Verde. There continues to be a good use of strategic thinking to the battles and the general use of Pokémon.

I don't think I'll ever understand why Yellow's gender was supposed to be a mystery though.

I didn’t love this volume. I like the new character Yellow, I think he’s very different to the other protags so far and he adds a new, softer element to the story. I thought the storyline was a bit unfocused, we jumped a lot between different character perspectives which was messily executed. Overall, I was pretty bored.

Probably my favorite volume so far. I love Yellow.

Art: Art is clean with good poses and compositions. It’s not too expressive, I feel like the first volume still has the best expressions.

Character: All the characters are fairly well written IMO and do a decent job at having or keeping their unique traits. But since, like usual there’s a decent amount of characters, the side characters tend to just serve the plot. The villains are fairly memorable, and are fun and unique. I love when a villain isn’t just one note. They're a good threat and antagonist to our heroes. Side characters- Bill makes an appearance for a good part of the volume. I like him how they use recurring characters, like him. Some gym leaders also make an appearance, they kinda all act the same oddly in this. Another nitpick. Main characters. Blue keeps his arc from the end of the last volume, making him super likeable. Also Yellow takes over as the lead in this volume. I love them, their powers are so cool, their personality is adorable, they work well of the story and worldbuilding too.

Story: The volume keeps things fresh by adding new stakes, antangonists, battles, conflicts, characters, etc. The battles are probably my favorite so far, with how fun they are. Now to the chapters. Light character spoilers.
41-43 The intro- A pretty quick paced intro to the new conflict, with a great introduction to our new hero Yellow. The comic does a good job at defining their character. Finally we have an adventure with them and Bill. Also does a good job at showing Yellow's character while adding in some good old fun.
44-46 Lorelei battle- I like this arc alot, it's not just a simple linear battle we're used to it. There's real stakes and since we're seeing a new protagonist in Yellow, you don't know if they will be able to win. Plus Lorelei's pretty cool- finger guns.
47-49 Super nerd battle- Another good antagonist, he's pretty much bursting with personality so it's really fun to watch him battle Yellow. Also a good battle with a pretty good ending. This arc kept me turning the page, wanting to see how or if Yellow would win. Plus it adds some depth to Yellow, that they still have to learn. I also liked that the gym leaders are here again. Erika's amazing.
50-52 Blue flashback- There's a transition to Blue's story where a flashback is shown. The antagonist in this is great as usual, and it repeats the formula to sucess from the last chapters. We also get to see a bit of Blue's past. I like when they flesh out characters like this, it feels like they've grown.

Really good volume, fun to read. Good battles and art. And Yellow is MVP.

Similar to the last book, the beginning of this one was underwhelming with many explanatory battles, but the last section was so good, I had to bump up my rating.

Yellow is a fun character in that he’s mysterious, clearly in disguise, has magical healing/mind reading powers, and refuses to fight normally because he doesn’t want to hurt other Pokémon. This creates some interestingly fun scenarios but they tend to have way too much explanation attached to them, and his secrecy feels somewhat unnecessary. Part of me wishes this story was told a few years later because I think the team behind it would’ve been able to utilize a lot more, and understand how big Pokémon was to become.

Additionally, there would probably be less typos in the translation, because omg was it sometimes unrreadable in this book. Viz didn’t do a great job translating these early works, but this one is by far the most egregious at this point. Translations don’t affect my ratings, and I don’t normally comment too much about them, but this one was hard to ignore.


All that said, Blue’s flashback to his fight with Agatha was wonderful. It reminded me of the when Red first met Yellow in the last book. But we get to see Blue’s mentor ship style here which is very different than Red’s. I’m assuming the character Blue met is Gold but I’m not 100% sure. Either way, the fight was cool, and finally had some moments where they simply showed instead of told us what was going on. We got to learn more about Blue’s backstory, his personality, and where he still needs to develop mentally. It was a great flashback, and I loved it. Blue, Red, Green, and Yellow, all represent different sides of what it means to be a trainer and by extension what it means to be a person working with a team. The ability to strategize and remain calm in tense situations is something we can all learn from Blue.

Seeing the other gym leaders together we also fun. Lorelei’s battle with Yellow/Bill showed off how much this series can do without being bound to game mechanics.
