Interesting life story of a lady who unwittingly became a household name. From humble origins and a single mother of two Laila Morse became an acclaimed actress . With a brother a film actor and a son who could best be described as a bit of a handful to put it mildly. Laila with a job in a betting shop was an unlikely candidate for celebrity status but fairy tales can and do happen and this one did. A colourful life and an interesting read throughout.
I didn’t really like this book at all. There wasn’t many photos in it which was disappointing. The author just didn’t keep my interest in the book and I found it hard to read at some points xx
I really enjoyed this. I love stories about people who grew up in what I call 'old' London. Nanny Pat's book Penny Sweets and Cobbled Streets: My East End Childhood is one of the best books I have read about growing up in London and Laila's book touched on it in the first few chapters of this book and I really enjoyed reading them. Laila was a right little trouble maker when she was younger and the first few chapters had me laughing out loud.
I also didn't realise just what a life she has led. It would be easy to assume that having a famous brother would mean she's lived a great life however she endured an unhappy marriage which at least gave her two kids. One of whom went on to become her best friend and the other went on to become a drug addict and Laila talks about this with such honesty and talks about how she tried to help her son. She also talks about her marriages and relationships with warmth and honest and it really felt as if Laila was reading the story out loud to you, it didn't just feel like you were reading a book.
It was also fun to read about how she became an actress at not that young an age and how she went on to become one of EastEnders well known characters, which is quite an achievement given that she has never really had a huge storyline to get her teeth into.
Overall I enjoyed this book and really loved reading about her growing up in London, the stories were hilarious.
everyone i think know laila Morse better as big mo from Eastenders i am quite a deep reader but like to read these type of books as they are quick and easy but they give an insight into someone u think u know just cause see them in a soap opera . I must admit never realised she had such a hard life and it is interesting reading about hard times then rosy times like hearing about the factual eastend as well as wot a wot we know m better for today will think about her and her lifestyle and the beeting s etc and wot she has to put up i also had no idea that she suffered from such nerves and being related to gary oldman think gave her a leg up but she is where she is today by being her !!!
