This is the 4th book in the series and starts about 40 years on from where book 3 finishes and centres on the romance between Wyatt and his mate Emily/Kass. In this book, Wyatt has grown up but spends much of his time in his wolf form going slowly insane following the death of Emily years before. Due to Queen Alex' desire for wolves to have more experience within the human world, Wyatt attended a human school where Wyatt first met his mate Emily. Fast forward several years and Emily is dead and Wyatt wishes he was as well.
Kass and Wyatt first meet when Wyatt walks in on the diner where she works in the middle of a robbery. Although he doesn’t want to get involved, there’s something about Kass’ scent that peaks his interest. After getting her out of the way of danger and ordering her to run, he sets about dealing with the robbers. When he leaves the diner, he scents Kass to her car where she is passed out so he picks her up and takes her back to his hotel room. Wyatt has been at odds with his wolf for years and now it’s taken a turn for the worse. Wyatt is convinced that his mate Emily is dead whilst his wolf is convinced that Kass is their mate. As if being kidnapped isn’t bad enough, Kass also has to ensure that she stays one step ahead of her nemesis Ethan who is intent on taking her heart…… literally!
After an incident involving Ethan, Wyatt takes Kass back to his home in the Clans. All he knows is that he has to keep her safe until her 27th birthday which is a few short weeks away, she has a very fragile heart that can just stop at any moment and that miracle of miracles, she’s his mate. Most of the story takes place in the Clans where Kass is supposed to be safe and we learn how despite her not being Emily, his wolf was right and she is Wyatt’s mate. The two slowly get to know each other but it seems that Ethan is not their only enemy. An unbalanced wolf from Wyatt’s past decides to wreak revenge on him, refuses to believe that Kass is his mate and separates him from Kass…. With Kass being locked in a tower whilst wolf after wolf is paraded in front of her in a quest to find her ‘real’ mate and Wyatt is locked away in the dungeon.
It’s a shame that we didn’t get to see Wyatt and Dylan growing up as it’s difficult not to fall in love with their characters but it’s good to see that Wyatt got his happy ever after. All that’s left now is Dylan’s story…. Unless we get to see what happens with the children of Tobias, Sebastian and Ryan. The editing still hasn’t got any better which is a shame as it has affected the rating I’ve given it but it’s still been an enjoyable and original series.
