Wow! Sweet, sexy and surprising! So many twists and turns right up to the shocker at the end. Alex Holmes doesn't have time for love. He is too busy raising Jasmine, his 7 year old daughter and running his construction business. In addition, his lying, cheating, DEAD ex-wife made it impossible for Alex to trust another woman. That is, until he meets Renee Moore, Jasmine's reading teacher. Awesome story!

Oh my! Rescue Me is my favorite Holmes Brothers story so far! Alex was such an amazing character, and I loved him and Renee together! Of course, the fact that Mama Holmes also got some romance here just made me extremely happy.
These stories are well written (even with some editing issues and typos) and the slow pace just made everything even better.

Rescue Me: Holmes Brothers Book 3 is by Farrah Rochon. This book is set in New Orleans .
Alexander was the oldest of the three Holmes brothers. When their Father died, he dropped out of school to go to work to help his Mother support the family. He began working in the construction business and eventually began his own company. Now Holmes Construction was the largest black owned business in the area. However, it took lots of work.
Alexander had married and his wife stayed with him because she was pregnant. She didn’t want the baby so bribed Alexander into giving her whatever she wanted. He began working longer and longer hours. To him, having his daughter, Jasmine, was worth anything. He wasn’t too upset when his wife died in a car accident along with her lover. Now he was raising Jasmine with the help of his Mother and brothers. However, they were spoiling her terribly. He was surprised when he got a call to the principal’s office only to learn his Jasmine was bullying others and talking bad to her teacher. He knew something had to be done. Because he was off work for a shoulder injury, he had time to volunteer at her school to see what was going on.
Renee had come to New Orleans to help her aunt after the flood. Her aunt needed her house rebuilt; but the contractor had taken her money and left. So, her aunt was trying to do what she could on her own. Renee had taken a job at an elementary school as a special resource teacher. She took the students and encouraged their reading so they could pass the Accelerated Reading test. She also ran the library. When Alexander overheard her talking to another teacher about her aunt’s house, he offered his crew to do some work on her house. By having his crews able to go out and help those in need after the hurricane, he was giving back to the community who helped build his business. He was also attracted to Renee, the first since his wife died.
Would he be able to start dating or was it just wistful thinking? Would Renee even think of going out with him? What would Jasmine think?

Alex's HEA (published in 2009) marks the conclusion of the first wave of the Holmes Brothers series, which appears to pick up again with Indina, their cousin (published in 2017). From Rochon's booklist, the trilogy about the Holmes brothers was her first and I can see the improvement in her craft as the series progressed. Like the 2 books that came before, there's a subplot featuring Alex's mama, Margot who herself gets a second chance at love with a widower she's secretly been seeing since Toby's book.

There were a lot of things I liked about this story - I love cameos from earlier books in series and we get a call back to Amanda Daniels in Ch 2, the bi-polar expecting mother* from Eli's first book. She's pregnant again with her second child and Eli has to rush off to deliver this baby so she and her husband are doing well which makes me happy.

As Alex and Renee's relationship developed, they were honest with each other - there were no misunderstandings about what was going on because they talked about how they felt all the way. I was charmed by how they used "going out with each other" as a euphemism for sex, which he apparently hadn't had for 6 years?! His unfaithful wife had been dead for 2 years and his daughter is 6, so, do the math. They have a ton in common, which was in stark contrast to Rashad, the jerk who Renee had been seeing as a friend. I don't understand football but I've read enough sports ball romances to understand the appeal of a heroine who knows her sport and is super engaged. On one of their first dates, when they're watching football and she asks Alex what position he played and he said centre after her first 2 guesses had been wrong, I was reminded of Kirsten Callihan's Game Plan, my favourite in her Game On series. The broody cinnamon roll hero Ethan Dexter played centre, too, and in that position, you have to watch the entire field and anticipate what will happen next in order to protect your teammates, and that is Alex to a T. He's the responsible older brother who is always taking care of everyone, putting himself last, and Renee sees that in him.

I liked the details revealed in setting this series in post-Katrina New Orleans: Renee had moved from Florida into a trailer provided by FEMA for families who were recovering from the hurricane and when we meet her, she and her aunt are trying to demo her aunt's house which had survived Katrina because the contractor she'd paid her lifesavings to ran off with her money. These are the stories that we generally don't hear about once the reporters have gone to chase the next disaster. I can say with honesty that I've never thought about what it must be like in the aftermath and I really appreciated this part of the story.

Back to my earlier point about how I can see the improvement in her craft - each of the books in the series had a subplot that I feel like, over time, made more sense in the context of the central romance - in Eli's it was his pregnant bipolar patient Amanda's marriage in trouble* which seemed a bit of a distraction because if we cut it out, we wouldn't lose anything from the central story. In Toby's it was the enemies to lovers pairing between his friend Jonathan and Sienna's sister Ivana (who appear to show up as a second chance romance in bk 8 of this series) and this, in context, fit better because we have a better understanding of Sienna through her relationship with her sister. But in Alex's story, it's his mother falling in love after years of devoting her life to her family - which is a nice parallel to Alex as he's a widower, and they're both grappling with how to redefine themselves as someone other than their child(ren)'s parent. Alex is forced to come to terms with his mother's relationship because he's going through the exact same thing himself with his daughter Jasmine and I loved this.

Minor gripes here that centre around Jasmine - first being that I was super annoyed with him policing her clothing as in the instance when she wanted to wear her sponge bob socks with a pink dress and he told her to go back to her room and put her pink and white socks on. The second thing is generally how spoiled she is (and I've noticed this since the beginning of the series) but the description of her Princess suite, which was a completely new addition that he added to the house just for her that was 700 sqft. My first condo was a 765 sqft one bed plus den and this 6 yo girl has a similarly sized suite all to herself with a life-sized castle(?) that she could play in?! I've concerns that she's going to grow up to be an entitled asshole if they're not careful.

Overall, I enjoyed this series and the cast of characters, including New Orleans which played a key role in setting the scene, and I'm curious to check out Rochon's other series published more recently to see how her writing has evolved.

Out of the three Holmes brothers stories I like Alex’s, and Eli’s story line most, with Alex nudging out ahead due the the epilogue within it. The epilogue made all three stories tie together which was missing from the other two. I understand why the author chose to do that but each individual stories felt so abruptly ended. Even this one did. I will say that I’m glad I continued on with reading the final one of the three brothers.
While each had a decent story line they didn’t capture that feeling I usually get when reading, normally I feel like I’m living in the story.
This is a nice easy read series though, so if you’re looking for that then you may enjoy it.

Second chance at love with a few bumps in the road

Alex and Renee's story had a nice added bounce by incorporating Jasmine into their story. As Alex being a single parent, it was essential to see how six year old Jasmine would adjust to the Change. It was also good to see the brothers Eli and Toby revisited, and how Margo's story with Gerald was intertwine. You'll laugh, you weep, and you feel all types of emotions that comes from the secrets revealed of family and close hurt.

Content warnings: heterosexual relationships, sex, pregnancy mention, death mention, physical abuse mention, manipulation mention, emotional abuse mention, cheating mention, head trauma, child not your own, dealing with parents dating (both from young kid and explaining as an adult to them and as an adult explaining to adult children), talk of hurricane katrina and resulting devastation, financial issues, being ripped off by con men

Excellent

They just keep getting better. I liked the first one in this series, and thought the second was even better, but this one really hit it out of the ballpark. The guys are just as adorable as ever, but Alex is so deserving of his second chance. And Mamma Holmes adds a surprise twist of her own. Loved it.

This book left some things hanging. I have questions! The first two books tied all of the loose ends, but this one didn't. All in all, it was an okay book. Since I read the fist two the ending was kind of expected. The secondary storyline in this book, but much better. There are more in the series. On to the next!

Loved It

I think, no, I know Alex is my favorite of the three brothers. He is the ultimate older brother/sibling. Farrah, you have written about a family that mimics mine in the family make-up. I love this family, the way they fight, the way they celebrate together, and the way that they love. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE YOU FARRAH!

The book was okay but the important issue was never addressed. They still went on spoiling the little girl. I'm assuming Alex is just never going to tell Jasmine the truth, like maybe find out who her real dad is or was.

Book 3

As a read these romances in order I have become very invested in the characters. This has been the funniest so far. Book 2 left me wondering how the mother was going to fair in her new love. Still with conflict, all have their HEA. On to book 4.

Farrah Rochon is a talented writer and in her Holmes Brothers series she finishes as strong as she began. Alexander Holmes vows to work hard, take care of his daughter and widowed mother. He has a business to run and there's no time for a relationship. Women are constantly flirting with him or throwing themselves at him but he continues to resist them. He blames himself for the loss of his wife so he doesn't want to take the chance of another failed relationship. His daughter Jazz who is spoiled by the entire family is having some issues at school. He decides to volunteer at her school to help ger straighten her out and runs into Ms. Moore and he can't get her out of his mind, she blows his plan to stay unattached. This story is a good read if you read the series you won't be disappointed.

I loved Alex and Renee's story, and it was a great way to wrap up the series. Alex was the epitome of what a great father is. He put is daughter before everything else, even his own love life. Renee was the perfect fit for him. She was able to show him what real love was, and she loved his daughter so much as well. It was great to read about Elijah's and Monica's wedding since they fell in love in the first book, and their mom Margo's story was really a great treat.

Now this book was my favorite, don't get me wrong the entire series was good, but Alex's story left a lasting impression on me. This a person, who was very giving of himself out of all the characters and the one who got the rawest deal. That wife of his I wanted bring back and kill again (sorry for any spoilers) Finally with Renee, they were able to heal each other. Momma Margo's little secret was a nice added bonus. It was a nice wrap up.

I couldn’t wait to read this book. It was the one I wanted to read the most out of the whole series. I loved Alex. It was a good story, but after reading the first two, it was pretty predictable. I still liked the book. I loved that Alex finally found someone who will love him and show him how it feels to be loved. He deserves it after everything he does for everyone in his life. Renee deserves it as well. After the childhood she had, she has a lot to overcome.

Great closer

This trilogy was great. I loved the stories for these brothers whom had been through so much but are able to find unyielding love. Although my heart broke for Alex and all he had to endure with his ex-wife but glad that Renee was able to rescue him from it all. The moment Monica told him to go to the blood bank, I knew it would come out that he was not Jasmine's father. He broke down but love brought him back up and helped him keep it together. Loved it!

Cliche

To me the story was too slow and seem to drag on at some parts. My issue is that a lot of authors must have mandatory word count. That would explain the drawn out scenarios that don't quite fit with the story.

Another thing was we didn't get introduced to the heroine until chapter 3. In which she also came with some baggage but that story was sporadically told.

An upstanding man!!!!!

Alex was absolutely adorable. I enjoyed this story and smiled from ear to ear as Alex and Renee had to deal with their horrific past. I've been telling everyone about The Holmes Brothers Books. Minimal cursing, and just enough passion to make the point. I've enjoyed this ride. Thank you Farrah for letting me play in your world.

I have read about all three of the Holmes boys and it was good but I knew what to expect. There wasn't any real drama except for the females having family issues of their own. It just seem to be the same thing for each book.

Love this one. Everyone's story comes to a conclusion. Truly enjoyed the closeness I this family. So very glad that Alex finally found someone to bring happiness back to his life. Seeing everyone happy made this story perfect.
