This was a excellent series. This book could be read as a standalone, but the first book drew me in just as much as this one did. My heart went out to Janie. She was in a abusive relationship, and knew she needed to leave. She also knew she had to have a plan in place. Paul was into drugs, and he thought she knew too much. He would never let her just walk away. She almost had everything in place to make her get away, but Paul forced her hand before the pieces were lined up. Janie had to fight back, or die trying. She knew this time, Paul was not going to just hit her. He was going to leave lasting scars. Her will to live, came alive. I loved how brave she was.
Sam knew both sides of the law. He worked on the police force. His biggest mission in life was bringing people to justice. A few years back his sister died by being abused by her boyfriend. The boyfriend didn't go to jail. Now Sam is in a group of men, that stands up for the people hurt. They go after the people that the system lets go. They do bend a few rules, but the hearts of these men are in the right place. They have never gone after a innocent person. They go after people that needs to be taking off the street.
I loved how protective Sam was when it came to Janie. I loved how the friendship grew between the two, turning into love.
This book really pulled at my heart. It explained why some women stays with people that hurt them. Some have a plan to get away, but is waiting on the perfect time to leave. I'm not sure I will ever look at domestic violence the same way again. I was a abused child growing, and I always wondered why my mom stayed with a man that beat her, and her kids. Seeing it from the view point of this book, I can see both sides. My heart goes out to all that has to live through it.
This is the 2nd book in the series and I was glad we saw the characters from the first! Of course, Janie is the friend/neighbor who was introduced as well as Xander's friend (Sam, the police detective) who catches her eye. Having a bit of a development of each character helped to skip over the introductions and get straight to the storyline. Your heart breaks for Janie and how she's suffered for so long at the hands of her abusive live-in boyfriend. Her and Sam's story was full of chemistry. I especially loved any scene with Christian and am anxious for his book!
The 2nd book in the series was as good as the first, if not better. Not a sequel exactly. Different story and different lead pair, but the characters remain same.
Cindy is a gifted writer who can make something as ordinary as a bike ride look extremely romantic. The tension between the lead pair was both funny and romantic.
Full of hot romance, uncontrollable desire, a bit of action (both verbal and involving fists), a bit of chasing and finally it is a happy ending.
Domestic violence in books is usually an instant no for me....... but I had already started the first chapter and couldn't turn back. I liked the action/suspense in this book it keep me interested enough to read to the end to see justice served. One thing I've noticed about these books in this series is that everything is glossed over just to get to the final ending. Janie was a good character but I would've liked to see her learn to stand on her own 2 feet first before jumping into something with Sam....and I couldn't help but fault Sam for what initially happens in the book at the wedding. He had to have some inking about the type of guy Paul was but it was like he forced the issue by putting too much attention on Janie.
This story I'm sure rings true for some people. It depicts a lot of reality in today's world. Wonderfully written with descriptions and actions that are very truthful and accurate.
