“A Broken Heart”, is a poem that speaks directly from the author’s heart. It’s so touching that I shed a tear the first time I read this poem. This specific poem is about leaving a loved one with a broken heart and the emotional feelings that come along with it. “A Broken Heart”, is a poem that speaks directly to all of the people that have ever had their heart broken. This song with make you cry and reminisce on what was, or what could have been. This poem is filled with so many emotionally unanswered questions with no resolution. From reading this poem, you can tell that this was something that the author was passionate about because of the emotions that go along with this poem. The writing craft used in this poem would have to be rhyming and voice.
Jenna, the author of this poem, did exceptionally well with her voice. This poem is so powerful that it can reach any broken hearts which it’s intended to do. Writing when your emotional can be some people’s best writing, because they are honest in how they feel and do a great job in getting those emotions out. Since it seems as though she may have a broken heart its easier for her to relate to an audience and write about because it’s something that she has lived through herself. She ask questions in her poem which is another way I think that she uses voice very well. She’s very open and honest about her emotional feelings and how she feels about her loved one which another way I believe she used this writing craft so well.
I would use this poem to teach my students a different form of writing, as well as voice and rhyme. I could definitely use this entire poem to have a mini lesson to teach students about rhyming different words with the same ending sounds. I would also use the entire poem to teach my students how a poem is written with different stanzas and punctuations marks. This is a great emotionally connected poem that can be used to teach rhyme, feelings through voice, and poem writing formation. I enjoyed this poem because it spoke directly to me as a reader.
