Aversion

Rate this book
The third and final novel of the Subversion Trilogy, amassing 60 chapters and 3 POVs, will leave you speechless with an emotional and unforgettable ending.

“She's not going to back down very easily,” I assert. “And it's only a matter of time until she takes advantage of our weak spots and challenge us even more. She is a very determined person, and if she keeps up with the same drive and force she's going at right now . . .” My lip trembles as a nightmarish realization settles down on my mind. “Then we might not be able to win this war.” Slowly, I look up at him, and my breath hitches as I see the sorrow etched in his eyes, his eyebrows tugged together in thought. In one slow motion, they land on me, the muscle in his jaw twitching as his lips curl down, almost agonizingly. I think, at first, that he is going to refute my bold claim—maybe reassure me that that is not going to happen, that we are all going to make it out alive, and that we will easily put an end to my mother's ever-growing army. But he remains quiet instead. As if he silently agrees with me. IT HAS BEEN TWO weeks since the ERUSA defeated the Reformers, and Detroit is destroyed. With heads hung low, the Reformers retreat to a safety regime in El Paso, Texas, where they must figure out a way to take the ERUSA down once and for all. But at what costs?

"The love and attention you get from your family is on a whole different level, you know? It's the kind of love and attention no one should take for granted because God knows when it's gonna get snatched away from you."

Ruhi, I died and came back to life several times while reading this.

One, the writing was descriptive and painted a picture in my mind perfectly, I applaud you on that because that's something that not a lot of authors will do. This book had loads of plot twists, and you will definitely need tissues because as soon as you think the worst has come, there are even MORE plot twists! That being said, I did predict every last one of the plot twists, but the way they were introduced was very unique.

Thank you for selecting me as an ARC reader, and congratulations Ruhi!

I'm just going to start off by saying Ruhi what the heck were you on while writing this book because the amount of STRESS I was in while reading was absolutely insane. It kept me on my toes literally the entire time- just when I thought we could be happy and relax it was like WRONG! and suddenly everything was going downhill. Honestly, I think Mallory's pov in this book was essential and really tied the story together since they were fighting with her mother. I loved seeing her growth as she stood up to her mother and faced her feelings I'd say she is my favorite character.

Now let's talk about the Cohen family🙂. I love Nico so much and the journal entries had me in TEARS because ugh I just felt so bad for him. That entire family could not catch a BREAK from the beginning till the end- and the letter omg I was sobbing so much I definitely advise having a box of tissues next to you because if you thought conversion was sad, just wait until you read this one. and continuing with the tears, Jax's backstory was also so sad I had to take a couple of breaks while reading it.

So it's safe to say that the common theme in my emotions while reading was stress and tears!!!

All in all this book was amazing (I literally binge-read it in one sitting) and I cried so much throughout it and at the end because I don't want to say goodbye to these characters💔💔💔

maybe I can convince Ruhi to write a novella one day just for happiness :)

I first want to thank Ruhi for giving me an ARC copy and congratulate her on the blood, sweat and tears she evidently put into this trilogy! Seriously well done.

However, I unfortunately have to admit that I feel it wasn't ready to be published? The world wasn't fleshed out enough, the characters and relationships felt 2D, and the hook was hard to believe in. There were definitely attempts to make the characters less two-dimensional, for example, Jax's trauma, but even that made me wonder if a sensitivity reader was used because of its inaccuracies.

It didn't feel natural but rather like an accumulation of popular tropes from Booktok and character's that served no purpose. The overall writing style had the same problems of the first two books (purple prose, unnecessary triplets and over-description, unnatural dialogue) which also made it hard to get through.

For a dystopian book with a chilling premise, the execution severely lowered the stakes and made it less hard-hitting than it should have been. So when they were forced to leave a team-mate behind to die for example, I struggled to connect or feel anything.

I will say this was a definite improvement from the first two, which leads me to believe that Ruhi is growing as an author and will only improve with every book she releases, but this unfortunately wasn't for me. Still, I wish Ruhi all the success in the future!

If you need an incredible dystopian series to read I HIGHLY recommend the Subversion trilogy. Aversion is the final book of this trilogy and it continues Blaire’s story with her friends and her rebellion against the government and politics that mess with her life.

Aversion was amazing! It was fast-paced and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I can’t say too much because I don’t want to spoil anything, but the characters continued to develop and grow and it was wonderful to watch them do this! Ruhi’s writing is intriguing, descriptive, cohesive, and easy to follow. She has vastly improved as a writer over the course of publishing the Subversion books. I can’t wait for everyone else to read Aversion and experience the thrills and emotions of the third and final book of the Subversion trilogy!!

Wow, what a ride.

I was an arc reader for this book and I loved it. It felt a bit slow at first but then I devoured it like soup (the good soup). I loved the characters and their relationships, and I love that they got their happy ending. Might wanna keep some tissues nearby though haha.

Ruhi, thank you for letting me arc read, and congratulations on finishing the series!!!

Oh my Jesus lord this book was good. This was an incredible end to an extraordinary series and I could not recommend it enough. I wanted to throw the book at a wall, yet I couldn’t put it down. Ya’ll better have tissues ready though. The emotion, the stakes in this novel are off the charts. I’m so glad I was able to read this arc!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review

Tears are still fresh in my eyes. I don’t think I’ve stopped crying since chapter 42. It was a happy ending… just not for everyone.
This book brought me so much stress.
How many times did I cry? Yes.
This book is definitely a heart breaker as some amazing characters don’t make it to the end. It pains me to know they didn’t get the happy ending they deserved.

I loved how real the characters felt. They had emotions and weaknesses. All of them did and it helps creating characters so many people can relate to. This book touched on the topic of mental health, while providing resources at the end. Which I find amazing.

I did find the book slow at points but it was still able to keep me fully entranced, on the edge of my seat and not able to stop. Ruhi definitely knows how to create an amazing world with the best characters.

The descriptions were amazing. They really dove into the surroundings and the characters feelings. It’s all what made this book feel so real.

Jax really went through it during this book 😭 Every time I read one of his chapters, all I could think about was the song ‘The Therapist’ by Foreign Air. I was happy to see him finally get better near the end. He still holds so much of my love. He deserves the best.

Nicos journal might have been some of my favorite parts. Reading about Ki….
Nico really grew on me and reading that letter he wrote near the end has me sobbing, the pages covered in tears. He’s definitely in the top of my favorite characters. Always and forever.

Ajay is a hunk and I live by that. I love that man. He is an AMAZING man. I wouldn’t have mind if this book had been 500 pages of just him.

I’m proud of Mallory. The happiness I felt when she finally stood up to her mother.

Blaire lost so much during this series. So so much. She is so strong to be able to keep going in the end. And I’m happy Jax will be by her side.

I sad to let this series go. I wish I could read more about the couples, old and new, just to get some banter and a glimpse into their lives together. But, alas, it’s the end… (but I wouldn’t mind a novella of all my loves)
In conclusion, this series is amazing. A must read. I highly recommend it. There’s so much more I could have said in this review, but I didn’t want to spoil anything. Maybe I’ll add more later on, but for now, I cry and try to move on.
