I was so honored to be able to Beta read Rest in Him, the third and final book in the He Redeems series! This is a beautiful, raw story of showing how to find love and life after loss!

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” Isaiah 43:18-19

Opal travels back to her late husband, Sam’s, hometown for another funeral. She winds up staying longer than expected after hearing some unexpected news that relates to Sam. Now she questions everything surrounding his death and will stay till she finds the answers she’s looking for. While on her journey she makes some new friends, has new adventures, finds herself again and possibly love!

It’s not often a book breaks me and causes me to ugly cry, but Rest in Him brought about all the feels! Opal was such a strong character to me, despite all the emotional trauma she endured! She was kind and funny! Such a sweet friend, who loved fiercely and with her whole heart! My heart broke for her in so many ways throughout this story, and I wanted so badly for her to find true happiness again!

Vince had experienced loss as well, and knew the pain of losing someone you love. He was the ultimate cinnamon roll hero!! He was quiet at first, but when he opened up, so much goodness came to the surface! I loved how gentle and patient he was with Opal. He treasured her and treated her like a gentleman.

Such a beautiful finale to a wonderful series full of love, friendship, adventures and laughter!!! This book can be read as a stand alone, but it’s so much more impactful to read all 3 in order!!! I hope this book and series blesses you like it has me!

Thank you, Hattie, for being such a wonderful friend and letting me beta read your book! I loved sharing all my thoughts with you along the way, along with the laughter and tears I shed!

Love after loss. This was a beautiful love story.
Hattie hit some really hard topics throughout this whole series, but I feel like this was the toughest one. It has been 2 years since Opal’s husband died and she is back in his hometown for another funeral. Some of the moments in this book were hard to read. Opal really struggled with her internal feelings especially when a new man enters the picture.
I thought Hattie did a good job with this specific topic.
I love the Bible verse that is mentioned in the story

Do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.
Isaiah 43:18b-19

I have truly loved this series!

Oh, I loved reading opal’s story!!

Very satisfying book trilogy!

CW: alcoholism, an affair between parents in childhood, death by suicide, some PTSD and grief.

Best quotes: "Opal...," I look up at him. As my name rolls off his lips, it's laced with something different. Sounds like desire. I swallow hard; my heartbeat picks up as my eyes drop from his eyes to his full lips. Desire.
He drops his forehead to mine.
"Opal...." he whispers my name again, his eyes shut. He holds me close.
I know.
"I know...," I whisper back, as my heart races.
I gently place my hand over his chest and feel his heart race as well.
"I'm sorry... I'm, I'm not ready yet," I say, looking up with glassy eyes. He takes my hand from his chest and kisses it.
"It's okay, mi amiga. Tome su tiempo. Take your time." He nods to me and then over the cliff.”

“Vince reaches out and catches me. His arms feel familiar.
I have a small flashback, next to the tombstone. That night.
I always thought it was Drew, that first night, who carried me to Loris from the cemetery, but no, this feels familiar; it was Vince.
It's always been Vince.”

“Psalm 56:8
You keep track of all my sorrows.
You have collected all my tears in your bottle.
You have recorded each one in your book.
I am seen. I am heard. I am held. Just as Sam was. Im flooded with relief.
I can rest in that. I can rest in Jesus, as I trust that He was there. He's here right now. He's never left me alone. I need to trust Him. Seek Him, look to Him for the next steps. I'm laying this Sam mission aside. My main focus now, as I realized in the hospital, is forgiveness.”

What a deeply beautiful story of trusting God and resting in Him even when we don't understand the answers He gives. Opal is still mourning her late husband, but when her husband's brother asks her to come to his graduation, she can't refuse. She doesn't intend to stay long, but when she finds out her husband died under mysterious circumstances, she vows to uncover the truth. In her search for answers she discovers something greater then closure - healing! Jesus heals the broken parts of her and gives His peace and joy in its place!
Vince is such a cinnamon roll character and I loved that he was a little shy at first, but then he opened up to Opal and they became each other's best friend!

Content guide:
Language - stinking, "for the love", dang, heck x5, darn/darned x2, gosh x9, crap, shoot x2

Sexual content - not detailed kisses, barely detailed kiss x2, lightly detailed kiss

Other - this book is focused on a widow recovering from her husband's suicide
- mentions of drinking alcohol

“Just take everything one step at a time…You’ll find yourself again.” -page 87

When it comes to loss and grief, Rest In Him holds nothing back. The book closely follows Opal Hayes as she grapples with her late husband’s death and the aftermath of questions left in the wake of the tragedy.

And what a journey the readers are taken on! We not only get a front row seat to Opal’s grief but also her personal growth, healing, and the hope that we can have because of God. The book also has an authentic, Biblical take on forgiveness.

I enjoyed the realistic pacing of this book, the lovable side characters, and how the author showed grief and life/love after loss so genuinely.

Sweet romance only too.

So, grab your tissues. You’ve been warned.
