Trusting God: A Girlfriends in God Faith Adventure

Rate this book
You don’t have to understand God to trust him.“Just trust me.” Those are the words we often hear in movies just before something bad happens. And yet, we are told to trust God. In a culture where we tend to take control of our own lives, trusting God has become a religious platitude rather than a life-changing attitude. We say it, but do we really mean it? And what does trusting God really look like? Sharon, Mary, and Gwen—the Girlfriends in God ministry team—have been there. They’ve traveled the tough roads of life to discover the peace and power that comes from grabbing the hand of God and trusting his plan. The life stories they share bring laughter and sometimes tears, but always spiritual growth.  Each of the 12-week sections concludes with a Bible study guide and journal page, inviting you to lock arms with Sharon, Mary, and Gwen and share with other women in a small group setting or to use individually in your own quiet time.

This all goes along with how I should be able to trust myself and my decisions. And in doing so do I trust God is leading my life in the direction it should go. Of course he knows much better than I do. It is always so hard to let go and learn to take that step out into the unknown. Sorta like when your on that rope by the edge of the river. You know that you can grab it and swing out above the water. But will you let go? Drop into that cold water to be washed with the free spirit or will you hang on and swing back to the safety of the river bank? Trusting God (Multnomah Books, December 13, 2011) written by Girlfriends in God, Sharon Jaynes, Gwen Smith and Mary Southerland is a 12 week plan to help me do just that, let go of the rope. Here I will have a Bible study guide and journal that will help me learn that it is time to reach out once again. Time to see how can I help someone else and where will that road take me to? We have lost Our Gentleman but we have not lost our ability to share with others. And I can not let the fear of losing someone we come to love stop me from doing that. In the past I have had my home, friendship and life open to help others in anyway possible. From taking in a woman and her three kids for 7 years to offering dinner and a shower to a man on the road. Whatever is needed that we have needs to be shared for those who might just need the extra lil help. Gosh knows that when we do our lives are filled beyond our imagination. Why heck I might even find myself dancing in the kitchen once again. It has been known to happen on more than one occassion with new found friends.

Throughout the weeks I’ve been convicted over just how little I actually trust God with my day-to-day life. I trust Him with my salvation. I trust Him with my overall well-being. I trust Him in all the big things. But it’s those little things, the things that actually build my character, that I have a harder time handing to Him. And as much as I wish I could just open the Bible and let the word of God flow through me in utter reassurance, I’m just not there. Maybe I will be one day.

But, for now, I love allowing men and woman wiser and more studied that me to guide me through my attempts to be better at this Christian thing and the verses and stories leapt off the page and into my heart from these much wiser and studied women.

I started reading this book with a group of girls that my husband volunteered me into (Lol because he knows my love of books) and I’m so glad he did because it was not only a great read, but something I really needed at this particular time. Isn’t it funny how that always happens? These are a series of very short stories from 3 authors and they are so powerful and uplifting. You may find you need them as well.

A 12 week, 6 day, bible study and encouragement, I really enjoy reading, "Trusting God: A Girlfriends in God Faith Adventure". Although, I took the time to read it more as a devotional and not as a bible study, I do have immediate plans to work through this book, in the fall.

With contributions from familiar names, readers will find themselves, challenged, convicted and encouraged to learn to just "let go" and trust God a little bit more in their lives.

This type of book, is great for new moms, maybe people going through life changes, new followers of Christ, or maybe you just have that season in your life, where you need a little bit of an encouragement to just "let go and trust God" right now.

I found the writing very free flowing in the aspect that the writers, knowingly write in a conversational, having a pep talk over a cup of coffee (or tea) manner, that really pulls the reader in.

For those who are looking for something to add to their quiet time (when ever that might be), you'll be uplifted and find yourself fully charged going through this book.

Personally, I found this book good to either read at leisure, all in one day or night (if you're a fast reader or on vacation or have lots of time on your hands), while at the same time, makes for a great bible study book, be it by yourself or in a group.

The contributing writers are very down to earth, women you can relate to in all stages of your life and, "Trusting God: A Girlfriends in God Faith Adventure", not only clearly reflects that but they also offer a link on their "Girlfriends in God" which is worth looking into as well as the website as a whole.

I found myself nodding not just in agreement, but feeling really encouraged to take that extra step in my growth as a follower of Christ. The rhythm of the book truly captures the spirit of having those close girlfriends, in your life, who encourages you to take that extra step and reminding along the way, the strength and ability that we do have within all of us and part of that including, getting over that hesitation about trusting God.

The version I have is on an e-reader which makes it even more "take anywhere you are" worthy, but you can also find this book in a paperback version, particularly if you're, like me, the type whom enjoys highlighting, using a post it note and writing in the margins, when the books touches you in a personal way.

The content of the book is very scriptural based, the typeface is easy on the eyes to read, and I particularly just enjoyed the 12 week, 6 day setup, that makes it, again, a great bible study to work through, either by oneself or in a group setting.

This is a book so worth not only reading for yourself, but sharing with the women close to you in your lives and in a bible study setting.

I read Trusting God, in exchange for an honest review from Blogging for Books. The book was written by Sharon Jaynes, Gwen Smith, and Mary Southerland. The book is a Girlfriends In God, faith Adventure. The book was published by Waterbrook Multnomah Publishing Group. (Multnomah Books).

I chose this book because I need to trust God more. In church today, we had a speaker on ADHD. He also came to our Sunday School class on ADHD too to answer questions. My question was on patience. How do I have more patience to deal with my kids? I thought it would be an easy answer, but he got religious. He said I need to trust God more. Read the bible more. Increase my faith. Instead of thinking my kids are the problem, I need to work on my spiritual life. His words touched me deep. I do have a weak spiritual life. He also gave me practical suggestions. Take time for self. Get a babysitter sometimes.

The book talked about putting your trust in God versus people. People will let you down and it is not always intentional. People are human, flawed, and they make mistakes. People can cause frustration, disappointment, and hurt. People need to learn to put their trust in God. God does not fail. You may not understand his methods, but God is 100% trustworthy.

The book starts out with a definition of trust and the goodness of God. God does not change. God love does not waver. God is the same, yesterday, today, and for the future. We should learn to trust God in the good times and bad times. It is easy to trust God when things are going good, but you still have to trust him when things are falling apart.

I read Week 1 a few weeks ago. It was an amazing story about a grandma and her granddaughter. Her son showed granny a trick, which caused Granny to be concerned. The granddaughter did not care because she felt safe in her daddy's arms. She knew her daddy would catch her when she fell. The grandma wanted to have that kind of trust in God--unconditional trust. Knowing that no matter what she going through, God will always catch her when she falls. Having no fear, just complete trust.

The book is a devotional. Each week provides a story and ends in a prayer. Each story shows an example of how people put their faith and trust in God. I definitely will continue to read this book all year. This was a good read.

So many Bible studies are written by people who have, well, let's just say, lived a broad expanse of years and experiences that the authors often forget how to relate to people of all ages. This 12-week Bible study was a bit different. Written by three women of varying ages, they cross all generational spectrums to reach out to every woman and bring her into a closer relationship with her God.

Trusting God is a 12 week study that takes women through the variety of themed trials that life throws at each of us in a practical way. Each week you will find five daily readings (or short chapters within a chapter) followed by one day of reflection questions and journaling. The entire study is broken into themed weeks without being blatantly obvious. For example, the first week repeats the theme of trusting God for protection each day with a different vignette.

I have to say that I do have a favorite author of the three. There is nothing wrong with the other two, but I really enjoyed Sharon Jaynes daily stories. Perhaps that is the reason behind my enjoyment? Each has a different writing style an Jaynes is definitely the storyteller of the group. Reading her is like reading a short story each day. Mary Southerland writes as if she is teaching you directly, reminiscent of a well laid out lesson plan. You never miss her point. Reading Gwen Smith is like sitting down and catching up with a friend you haven't seen in a while. It's a very relaxed, personal writing style, as if you are sitting and having a conversation with her.

While you can use it as a stand-alone study for one person, many of the reflection questions are far better suited to a group setting. This study would be a great one for a woman's group who doesn't have the time (or the inclination) to dig into some of the heavier studies (like Beth Moore) but still want to spend quality time getting to know God. New Christian women, especially, would benefit greatly from this study as would teen girls. While I enjoyed the time spent (no time with God is ever wasted), I prefer more "meat" in my studies and a specific topic rather than general themes but that is entirely personal preference and I would definitely recommend this study to the groups I mentioned.

Trusting God by Sharon Jaynes, Gwen Smith, Mary Southerland

This is a thoughtful and interesting book written by three women as a devotional and bible study. The authors are Girlfriends in God. They share stories from their lives openly in an engaging and conversational way. Almost like talking with your girlfriends. Their stories tell you about who and what they are about, and more importantly, about the One they trust.

In a twelve week format, each week has five devotionals that start with a truth from scripture, then a short thoughtful devotion, and ends with a prayer. The sixth day is the bible study part. There are questions for reflection and space to write your own thoughts and insights. The devotions seem light and easy reads until you get to the questions the Girlfriends in God ask. The reflections of day six are, at least for this reader, heavy-duty, thought-provoking, sometimes very difficult questions to ponder.

I found the devotions were short enough to read in just a few minutes yet left me with much to think about; where I have been, where I am, and where I want to be in my experience of trusting God. And as I said, the study part takes some work. Work worth doing.

The book can be read simply as a devotional or you can include the sixth day “Now It’s Your Turn” as a bible study. However you decide to use Trusting God, as a personal time with God, sharing with a friend or prayer partner, or in a small group study you will learn a lot about yourself and why you can trust God.

Trusting God: A Girlfriend's in God Faith Adventure is divided into twelve weeks, with five day mini chapters contained into each week, the sixth day being "Now it's your turn time for reflection." Many life stories from the authors and others of different topics are in each mini chapter, along with bible passages that coordinate, stories and creative prayers, and journaling to compose and list your own thoughts.

What I loved about this book is the way it is presented, a down to earth and loving read, and told in a way your best girlfriend (who understands how you feel) would talk to you. I connected with all of the authors but have one I felt more connected with. I took my time in reading, reflecting and journaling this book. Helpful was Now its your turn which offered questions and quizzes for personal assessment. This is a very faith affirming and inspiring read. I was highly entertained and would recommend this well written book to others. Do yourself a favor and spend some time knowing how to Trust God with your girlfriends! I received this book for free from Waterbrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review.

Trusting God is a fantastic girlfriends in God Faith adventure . its co written by Sharon Jaynes-Gwen Smith -and Mary Southerland.

I have been reading this as part of my morning devotional reading and I really loved it. Its set up for weekly reading and journaling and also allows you to write in the book and answer the study questions . This book is part devotional and part workbook and its everything you could want in both.

I read this daily so I could do the review for it and I found each chapter to be so inspirational and filled with practical advice. Just reading it will help you increase your faith but the book also offers you an online discussion on Girlfriends in God forum or GiG. which would be at this link
Girlfriends in God

All together I thing this is a excellent devotional and study book with nice resources and uplifting stories.
This book would make a wonderful gift for any woman and would be especially helpful for those of us going through difficult times. I highly recommend this book.. thanks for looking at my review.

I admit it! I struggle with trusting God. He is the only one who will never let me down, but I still struggle with it. That is why I loved this devotional. It is an honest and open look at what it means to trust God and to walk in faith. Written by the women of Girlfriends in God, they share stories from their lives and talk openly about what trusting God looks like in their lives and even about their own struggles with trusting God.

The devotional is a twelve week long study. There are devotionals for five days of the week and then on the sixth day it is your turn to reflect on what trusting God looks like in your own life. They ask you some questions to get you to thinking, give you some actions to take, and some Bible verses to reflect upon. They give you practical suggestions to help you build your own faith. They take a look at many different aspects of trusting God, from why should we trust Him to what to do when discouragement hits to stepping out in faith and being obedient to Him.

I can’t wait to go through this devotional again and hopefully with some friends!

A Girlfriends in God Faith Adventure.

Gwen, Mary, and Sharon make up the Girlfriends in God Ministry Team and together they wrote this book on how to trust God. The book is broken into weekly segments which is then further broken down into six days each written solely by one of the authors with a recap at the end of each week.

I love that they use stories and examples from their own lives to illustrate the points they make each day. They show how to trust God in the real world, not just with words but with action, and they show us we don't do it alone.

This book is perfect for a pre-teen or teenage girl. She can read it alone or with a group, as the ministry team recommends a Girlfriends in God team. If you're looking for a good way to help your teenage daughter learn to trust in God this is a book you should definitely check out.

It is designed to be a twelve week program and I read it in just a few days but I know that I will use it many times in the future to my inspire me to trust God even more! I loved that the authors used moments from their own lives to get their point across! I felt my love and trust for Jesus and God grow as I was reading this book! This is an excellent devotional. It is designed to be a twelve week program and I read it in just under a day but I know that I will use it (as intended, in 12 weeks) many times in the future! I loved that the authors used moments from their own lives to get their point across. What I loved about this book is the way it is presented, a down to earth and loving read, and told in a way your best friend would talk to you. I enjoyed having a space for to journal and reflect as well as how it lends itself to be either a solo read or a group bible study. This is one of the best devotionals I have ever found, I highly recommend it!

The title of this book was what grabbed my interest, but I was pleased to see that it was also a devotional, with daily readings and a weekly "reflection" or journal page to think about what you have learned during the week. Learning to really trust God is so important, and these authors bring their various experiences and share what they have learned on their journeys in a step by step format that makes it easy and enjoyable. I have enjoyed this book, and an now following the Girlfriends in God blog so that I can hear from these authors on a regular basis!

"Trusting God" is a book with honesty. Each of the women tell the truth concerning trusting God and how it does not get any easier in full-time ministry. Many in ministry and others get caught up in a mindset of people participating in full-time ministry; never have trials, trust or temptation issues. This is a lie straight from the devil, which sets up those in ministry to fail...Visit Dawn's Dialogue to read more of review: http://www.dawnwhitmorespeaks.org/201...
