Kidnapped by bandits to be sold into slavery, beautiful Green Eyes Blue becomes the wife of an aristocrat of the capital city of Tollan, but she soon finds herself battling worshippers of the evil Dark Gods, who are threatening the destroy Tollan. By the author of Spirits Walking Woman. Original.
Wow! This was an enjoyable story set in the middle of the Mayan empire. Historical details were prevalent, without being overwhelming. Characters in the book were touched by the gods, and more than a dash of mysticism was stirred into the plot as well. The antagonists were as well formed as the protagonists, something I enjoy reading. It is nice to get a feel for both sides. It even tends to make the evil seem tangible when I know their back stories too.
I was fascinated by Green Eyes Blue as she grew into a woman, and wish the book could have been longer. That is my only complaint with the entire story. I could read an entire series based on these characters.
I enjoyed reading this book to fill idle time. One complaint I have is that I often had to remind myself that the language and dialect the people spoke is in Mexico and not Greece. It just seemed too proper English, would have been nice to see a Spanish influence.
Meh? This was a read about a young girl (like…12 year old) being kidnapped and then becoming a sexual object and a religious icon. And she was ok with it because she got comfortable? It felt weird.
I can read only so many books of the general genre of today, i.e. mysteries, soul-searching books, even Janet Evanovich or Dean Koontz. Then I need something a little different...a lot different, and these prehistoric books fit the bill just fine. All of the characters were very relatable; the action moved along at a perfect pace and I only found one problem--no sequels. I would have loved to see Green Eyes, along with her unusual husband and special little King-baby, return to her homeland along with all of the perils that would probably happen along the way. Oh well, got to go now...I think I hear Janet E. calling me!
I didn't like this book at first but it really picks up after the characters enter the city. The characters were bland with the exception of Gentle Dawn. She was the only character with palpable emotions. It was like a watered down version of the people of the wolf series.
