I really enjoy the Scene of the Crime series. Each book is interesting and a quick, fun read. Mystic Lake was no exception. The characters were engaging and the story was fast paced.

Amberly Nightsong, native American single mother and FBI profiler, has been sent to Mystic Lake to help solve a series of murders. The reason she was sent to Mystic Lake was her native American ties. The serial killer is posing the murdered women with dream catchers hanging above the bodies. There are three victims and the serial killer has marked Amberly as his next victim.

Sheriff Cole Caldwell doesn't need or want the FBI's help. He is widower thanks to the FBI and he hasn't forgotten or forgiven their inaction when his pregnant wife had been killed by a serial killer gunning for the spouses of local law enforcement officers. He doesn't want Amberly under foot and doesn't want the complications that she brings to the mix. You see Amberly is making him feel again and he doesn't like it.

Neither Cole or Amberly are looking for love. Cole had that once in a lifetime forever love. Amberly has been burned and doesn't trust love. They both fight their growing attraction but they both fall hard.

Good book. Both Amberly and Cole had given up on love. Cole because of the guilt he felt over his wife's death, and Amberly because she didn't think it would last. When she was called in to assist with the murder investigations, she and Cole had to work together. He wasn't thrilled because he had had a bad experience with the FBI. He also discovered that something about her got under his skin and made him start to feel again. When the serial killer went after Amberly, Cole realized that he had come to care for her. Now, he just needed to convince her. The suspense was good, trying to figure out who did it was challenging.

In Cassidy's romantic suspense novel, FBI profiler Amberly Nightsong is sent to Mystic Lake as a consultant to the local cops regarding three ritualistic murders. Sheriff Cole is a widower, shut off from romantic involvement and focused only on the job. Working side-by-side, Cole is drawn to the single mom and as the killer targets her through her son, Cole will do anything to save them both. Fast-paced, twists and turns, passion--an excellent story!

En toch he.

I loved Amberly's relationship with Max. I appreciated that she didn't approach her work as if she was searching for an MRS. Degree, but rather, she wanted to work a case to get to the bottom of the truth. Cole was the dashing sheriff that we all yearn for: strong, kind, and smokin' hot. If you're looking for a high stakes thriller, with poignantly unique characters, this is a must read!

A bit disappointing after so much attention was given to these characters in the last book. Time-line of this crime was out of sync as well as not even any mention of former characters.

A nice romantic suspense, with emphasis on the relationship between the heroine, an FBI profiler, and the hero, a sheriff with a string of murders on his hands. It was well written and enjoyable, with a series of solid secondary characters and a few good red herrings. However, the resolution was fairly unrealistic and, yet, predictable as the book developed. There were also parts where the story seemed to sag, where the principle characters seemed to just hang around waiting for something, which might have been better used with police work, such as tracking the purchase point of the dream catchers left at the scenes. Still, the book did a good job presenting the frustrations and lulls of criminal work, and presented a few interesting theories for the crimes. The settings and backdrops were rich, as well. The growing romance was handled maturely, though it was a bit light on conflict, and I liked the characters quite well. A nice evening's read.

The book grabbed my attention from the very first page. The setting and the characters dragged me deep into the book. I could not put the book down as I was trying to figure out who the evil person is kidnapping law enforcement. The last page left me hooked waiting to pick up the next in the series to see what happened next!
