Jason Drake, the rogue captain of a remarkable warship, is on a campaign of justice against the perpetrators of a terrible tragedy that robbed him of his beloved daughter’s life and ended his marriage to his uniquely talented wife, Aria. Perhaps it was unrealistic for either of them to expect that their unique connection could ever be severed, for when the need arises, Aria calls out to him from the backwater world on which she intended to hide.Without hesitation Jason drops everything and recklessly answers…with catastrophic results. Despite the severe damage to his ship, Jason stubbornly stretches the talents of his surviving crew, only to painfully uncover an unimaginable threat to galactic freedom.
I am a journalist, small magazine editor, and media/PR representative for a health oriented company looking to expand their training curriculum. What I love to do most is write fantasy stories. If you have read and enjoyed Open Channel it would be of great help to get your feedback in the form of a rating and short review here on Goodreads.
Open Channel is by far one of the best science-fiction related reads that I have read so far this year (and I am an avid sci-fi fan, it's definitely my favorite genre and it's quite rare to not see a sci-fi book/my kindle in my hands these days).
I think I'm at the point where I can tell early on whether a book is going to be a 'hit' or 'miss', for me personally- based on a few simple things that I look out for. With that being said, I knew within the first chapter that I had stumbled upon an absolute top quality work, and I was hooked from start to finish.
It's not hard to tell that the author has read plenty of sci-fi in his time and truly has a passion for the genre, the literary devices are pulled off flawlessly and I think this is the type of read that even the most critical readers could actually like. I'd give it a strong 9.5/10, and I will definitely be remembering Daniel Betts's name.
Open Channel is action packed from beginning to end. Never got boring for me. Mr. Betts painted such an incredible picture in my mind with his diverse characters, this is definitely movie worthy! There's even a freaking dragon! Need I say more? lol
