I liked this book, and would probably give it one and a half stars. With limited space for a significant story, Jim Razzi does his best, and I like the twists on the Disney movie.
This book take the classic tale of Pinocchio adds the element of the "Choose Your own Adventure" books to it. Readers can choose where to take the story next, simply by choosing a page number at the end of each page.
Much shorter (34 pages) and larger print than the average Choose Your Own Adventure" book, this is a great way to read a classic story with children, and allow them to think somewhat critically about the story and their choices. As well, it can be more entertaining for readers, as the option to choose is always available.
Of note: This book is for young readers, but I think the youngest may still need a little assistance with some parts and concepts, in this book.
Sure, this is baby's first choose-your-own-adventure with a mere 42 pages to its name, but there is something incredibly charming about reading a book where your little Italian boy self-insert is hanging out with Pinocchio and going through the events of the movie. No setup is needed, there's just a little Disney styled kid standing in Geppetto's workshop now and this wacky old man is telling the small child about how he wished upon a star and a magical fairy made a wooden puppet come to life.
You can then choose to be distracted by a bakery and eat a bag of doughnut holes instead of seeing the magical talking puppet. This was my personal favorite ending.
Even though I am an adult, I loved this book for the most part. There were so many choto choose from and different endings that it keeps you guessing. The pictures are colorful, exciting and magical as well. The one downside is that not all endings are "Happily Ever After" ones' I understand why, but it is a bit sad and disappointing. Overall though, I highly recommend this book!
