Another scorching entry in Vina Jackson’s Eighty Days series delves into the backstory of Luba, the mysterious, blond Russian beauty who danced her way into mischief in the original trilogy
In her youth, Russian dancer Luba fell for a bad a handsome but dangerous rare amber dealer who would disappear for months on end but expect Luba to drop everything when he called. Despite all this, Luba could not deny her attraction to the seductive Chey, but their passionate, turbulent relationship came to an end when Luba discovered a shocking secret about her lover and fled from Russia. From elite private clubs in New Orleans to the London mansion of enigmatic rock star Viggo Franck, Luba embarks on a journey of self-discovery, embracing the exciting, enticing experiences that her life as a dancer brings. Her adventures introduce her to a fiery, flame-haired violinist, Summer, whom readers will know from the original Eighty Days trilogy, and Lauralynn, a woman with decidedly dark desires. But can this new life ever truly satisfy Luba, or will she forever crave the one man she knows isn’t good for her?

Luba is a Russian dancer. Luba is moving to New York City and always falls for the wrong/bad man she meets. Luba has a boyfriend-ish man called Chey, Chey is an Amber dealer in America but suddenly he disappeared without any words. Their relationship ends a little unstable and Luba discovered secrets she was never meant to find out about Chey. As Luba's story goes on she meets Rockstar Viggo Franck and she does some self-discovery and some new experiences.

In her new exciting life, Luba meets Summer from the first 3 Eighty Days books.

An Erotic Romance what I read in English, I have read the other books in Dutch, I found it interesting and thought it was very nice how the stories from Luba and Summer crossed in this book.

This the #4 book of the Eighty Days collection, but you can read this one as well as a stand-alone.

I received this book from Orion, the publisher, and rated it 4.5 stars.

Lubov Shevshenko (Luba) was born in the Ukraine and raised both there and in Russia while she trained as a ballerina. Attracted to bad boys from her teenage years she has been known to give them pleasure and ecstasy without ever giving herself to them. It isn’t until she moves to New York and meets Chey, not so much a bad boy as a bad man, that she feels enough of a connection to fully surrender herself. Luba and Chey are made for each other and their relationship is exciting, exhilarating and filled with passion from the start. But bad man Chey has a darker side. Officially a dealer in rare amber, Chey often disappears without a word for months on end and his house contains many locked places. Uncomfortable about the secrets Chey is clearly keeping from her, Luba is nevertheless content to stay in their relationship until the day she makes a shocking discovery. Unable to live with either the secrecy or the implications of what she’s found Luba leaves without a word, determined to make her life without the man she loves so very much.
On her own Luba extends the career as an exotic dancer she started while living with Chey. A career that will lift her to exquisite heights on a secret but very exclusive circuit and provides her with the means to live as she pleases and set her own demands. While dancing her way through life, and various exotic locations, Luba drifts from short-term relationship to one-night-stand and back again, never able to find anything that comes close to the perfection she had with Chey. But even a reunion with Chey won’t bring the easy happy ending she might have dreamed up. Chey’s bad man past will have to be dealt with before life can settle down again.

This is the fourth book in the Eighty Days Series and the first one not to centre on Summer and Dominik, although they do make several appearances in this book. And they’re not the only familiar characters the reader gets to reacquaint themselves with. It was nice to have an another opportunity to read about our playful rock-star, Viggo Frank and Lauralynn, the cellist with very dark desires as well as other, more minor, characters from the earlier books.

It would be wrong to call this book a sequel to the three earlier books though. In many ways this book stands on its own. Although the story in this book intersects with the earlier narrative on several occasions, it isn’t necessary to have read those books in order to enjoy this one. Luba’s story can easily be read as a stand-alone without the reader ever feeling that they are missing out on vital information. Having said that, I do feel that this book would be more fun if you had read the other books first. Several scenes from the earlier story are revisited here but from a different perspective giving the reader a new insight into Summer and Dominik’s story. And, conversely, this book gives the full story of Luba who was a rather mysterious and enigmatic character in the earlier books.

Although I have labelled this book as “erotica” I wonder how accurate that description is. This is contemporary fiction with a higher than average sexual content. But the erotic scenes in this book are mostly written as if from a distance. There are few, if any, excruciating details. Details are either not mentioned or referred to later on, in a memory, rather than in the moment. And because everything that happens in the story is completely normal for the characters it is easy for the reader to treat it as such as well. Some of the acts as described in this book may be far from what most readers will have experienced or even imagined, but to me it never felt shocking or blush-worthy.

Vida Jackson (who is in fact two authors collaborating) seems to be hitting her stride better with each subsequent book. The writing is getting smoother all the time. Although there was one occasion in this book when I consciously thought that I had reached a point where one author had handed over the keyboard to another, the rest of the book could easily have been written by one single person.

One side remark; I’m still not sure why this series is called “Eighty Days”, but there is absolutely no mystery why in this case that part of the title is followed by “Amber”.

As far as I know there is at least one more “Eighty Days” book to come, giving the story of yet another background character and I am very curious about what is still to come and look forward to what I think will by Lauralynn’s personal road of discovery. Although I’m also very curious about the girl with the tear-drop tattoo and can’t help hoping that we’ll hear more about her too.

This is a wordy rant and probably won't make much sense unless you've read the original Eighty Days Series.

What makes Luba an interesting character in this series is that she's bisexual. She's a very sexually open, sensual character. Summer engages in a threesome with Luba and Viggo in Eighty Days Red...and it's hot. Like, really hot. This book covers the same time period as the Eighty Days series, so I was looking forward to f-f-m scenes with Viggo, Luba, Summer, and Lauralynn.

The threesome scenes were an absolute disappointment. There was little description, and very little time spent on them. There were phrases like, "Lauralynn was an enthusiastic and generous lover." Um, ok? Well, that's good to know. Thanks Vina Jackson.

You know, I'm amazed by the amount of m-m and m-m-f erotica out there, and the absolute lack of f-f-m menage. I know of female erotica readers who like reading m-m for a change, and I personally like reading f-f-m for a change. It's so difficult to find. F-f-m menage is totally lacking in today's erotica market.

In the Eighty Days Series Lauralynn is described as someone who is more into women, but likes dominating men occasionally. She chooses women over men repeatedly. So it amazed me that she enjoyed dominating Viggo more than having sex with Luba.

It was lame there were no Lauralynn and Luba love scenes. Also, Viggo was described as having a dominant streak in Eighty Days Red, and thus I absolutely did NOT buy into him being submissive to Lauralynn. Lauralynn and Viggo's characterization did not hold continuity from the original series.

The magic of all these characters present in the Eighty Days Series was completely missing in Eighty Days Amber.

I also couldn't find it in myself to care for Chey at all. There was poor storytelling here--there were many times where I felt I was reading a summary of Eighty Days Blue and Red.

Why: Christmas gift

Brief synopsis: Ukrainian dancer Luba has always been attracted to bad boys and Chey is no different. In no time at all, she became Chey's woman and in even less time, she was back to Luba. Focusing on her dancing, Luba takes a position that allows her to travel the world but will her heart travel with her?

What I thought: After reading the Eighty Days series, I was a little reluctant to read this but felt compelled as it was a gift. It wasn't that I hated them, I just didn't love as much as I did the Crossfire and Fifty Shades books. I'm delighted I did though, I think this was better than the main series.

This book runs parallel to the three books in the main series but tells the story of Luba, the Ukrainian dancer. At points it re-tells parts of those books from the new perspective as the characters unite which I felt added another dimension to the story. Unlike the main series, I thought this book had more of a love story running through it (I think this was why I preferred it) and whilst the sex scenes were still plentiful and not always what your average Mr & Mrs get up to (well, at least not in our house) it was much tamer than the BDSM activities Summer indulged in.

Overall, a great book. If you're going to read the main series, I'd recommend that you read those first otherwise parts of this book will spoil that story.

Favourite quote:
I didn't have a particular quote as such but I loved the list 'The things about you I will never forget' - this is my favourite from the list:

Being a couple, an 'us'

The author managed to spew out 5 books in the Eighty series in 7 months, starting less than a year after Fifty Shades came out. I haven’t read any Fifty Shades books since the comments from women that I know who did read it were not favorable. From this sample, I would say the Eighty series fell into the same rating based on an n of 1.

Luba is a Ukrainian ballerina that is not good enough to get picked up by a company. She gets to America, her visa expires and she has to find a way to earn money. Being attractive and a dancer, she managed to get a job as a “dancer.” She had hooked up with a dealer in amber stones who randomly disappeared for periods of time, who took her in.

The writing was so jumbled that I originally thought it had been created by an AI engine. There are errors in logic and geography and time, which would be consistent with an AI author, but I doubt there was anything at the time capable of even this mess. It was a complete waste of time, and thankfully a short book.

Picked this up as I desired a bit of a '?hitt?' read as I call it, in other words, an erotic romance, I was hugely surprised and very very happy right from the get go. The story is not written from the usual perspective, it's does not have a cliched storyline, it's not badly written at all!
The writing is educated, detailed, imaginative and varied, I was hooked by the descriptive style of the author (or should I say authors), I could see and feel everything that happened and was never lost in the story whether it was a scene from the present or the past.
I will be seeking out the others in this series for sure. Thank you Vina Jackson for giving me some quality smut just when I needed it.

As posed on http://jessysbookclub.wordpress.com/

I’ll start by saying that this is my first Vina Jackson novel. There have been three more before this and this one is considered a companion novel. I was of course apprehensive having not read the other three. I knew that the characters in the previous books would make an appearance in this one, but I was also hopeful that this book could be read as a standalone. And luckily, it can.

This is the story of Lubov Shevshenko, or Luba for short. Her story begins in the city of Donetsk, Ukraine. A tragedy happens that has Luba moving in with her aunt. Luba’s aunt sends her to St. Petersburg to train to be a prima ballerina. While Luba is gifted, she’s not as dedicated. She spends more time learning about the opposite sex… and while she learns the art of pleasing them orally, she doesn’t allow them to touch her. She’s certain there’s more to life than what she can see and what she has, so she dreams of moving to America. Eventually she does, still a virgin, and there she meets Chey. And their story begins.

I’d always liked bad boys. And as I grew up, they became bad men . . .

But this is more Luba’s story… a coming of age story if you will – we see Luba growing – mentally, physically, sexually. Meeting Chey is unlike anything she’s ever experienced. Men and women have always been attracted to Luba, but she’s never had anyone who’s captured her interest… until Chey. While their relationship develops, she realizes that something’s off… Chey keeps disappearing for long periods of time and Luba is tired of it all. On one such extended disappearance, Luba runs out of money. And that’s how she starts a career as an exotic dancer – which has her travelling all around Europe.

It’s difficult to write my review without giving away too much. Mostly because the reader experiences life with Luba, grows with her. I liked Luba as a heroine. She was strong, she made her own decisions and was never influenced by anything or anyone. Her story was sad to read… even though Luba carried herself with a dignity that left no room for pity. She was her own person and aimed to please only herself, and when she got bored, she’d move on.

I had to admit that this is not what I was expecting when I started reading the book. I expected the kind of in your face steam I’m accustomed to in Erotic Romance. But this was not that at all. I wasn’t sure how to describe it. I’d read somewhere that literary erotica is a combination of four elements; sexual heat, humor/pathos, surprise, and human condition profundity. And this had all four in good measure. Again, the sexual heat was not in your face steam. It was more subtle… aimed to arouse yes, but done in an understated way. I would compare it to a joke that makes you smile and shake your head… but doesn’t result to all out laughter…

While I did find it long and overly descriptive in parts, I have to admit that the writing style was beautiful – not only expressive but atmospheric. An interesting story, a profound story… one that I’m still thinking about… more in confusion than anything else. I enjoyed it, but I feel as if there were things I would have done differently. I would have included Chey more in the story. I admit, I missed him in parts and I feel like we din’t get to know him. Possibly the author’s intention as this is meant to be Luba’s story. But I wish I knew why, of all the men ready to do her bidding, she loved only Chey…

Other than that, I did feel like it dragged on in parts and by the time I was getting to the end.. I knew that if I’d had more patience, I probably would have enjoyed it much much more.

3.75 Stars

Finally I’d like to thank Open Road Media and Netgalley for providing this copy for my review.

L’histoire :

Article first published as Book Review: Eighty Days Amber by Vina Jackson on Blogcritics.

Eighty Days Amber is the fourth book in the Eighty Days series. Readers of the previous books will already be acquainted with the main character of this one - Russian dancer, Luba. This is her story, from how she ended up leaving Russia and moving to America, what events conspired to put her in a New Orleans club when Dominik and Summer were there, and how, finally, she came to bump into Summer again. It's a life story, really, but a much more interesting one than most.

Eighty Days Amber is not my favourite of this series, but I can't quite put my finger on why. There is certainly plenty of action, both of the sexual and cleaner kinds, and even the occasional bout of humour. Perhaps I just didn't engage with Luba as a character, I don't know. But regardless of this, I would still say give this book a read, especially if you've read and enjoyed the others, as it's a great insight into the world the characters inhabit, and ties up some of the loose ends that were no doubt deliberately left trailing in the previous novels.

Sexy, exciting and interesting, Eighty Days Amber is another great addition to the series, giving us more information on the characters we've been introduced to so far, as well as a comprehensive backstory on Luba. Now onto Eighty Days White.

Book 4 in the Eighty Days series is different, but I am still committed to the series. This one is centered round Luba, the Russian Dancer, and I had a hard time connecting to the character - perhaps because of her background and the way the authors drew her. She seemed a bit distanced, so I found this book harder to immerse myself in. I do think that her life story was interesting and I appreciated the inclusion of this book in the series.
The authors do tie up a lot of plotlines from the previous books. Once again, the sex is passionate, sensual, and not gratuitous. The dialogue has wit and humor. The secondary characters were likeable, the settings beautifully written and the pacing relatively even.
I enjoyed my journey back to the world created by the authors of Eighty Days, and I look forward to the next installment.
I rated Eighty Days Amber 4 stars because it is well written, just didn't feature my favorite character.

I enjoyed all of the Eighty Days books prior to this ‘spin off’ series and find myself continuing to enjoy. Eighty Days Amber is a great addition to them all. It actually answered some lingering questions I was previously left with. A highly erotic, sexual, unpredictable and engrossing start to the companion series that fans of the genre will lose themselves in.

Luba is one of the most memorable characters of the series (besides Dominick and Summer). She’s a beautiful, sexy, intelligent and mysterious woman that has incredible talent as a dancer. We get to learn a great deal about her and the why’s of her chosen profession. As well as her true love for one man in her life that’s never really died.

It was great to hear another side (in some ways) to the original Eighty Days. Many different sexual situations. Some that will shock you. Others that will turn you on and leave you wanting more. I enjoyed this one very much and look forward to the next of the series.

In all honesty, this is my first book by this author. I read that this is a companion novel, but it can be read as a stand alone. And, it can. It's hard to really give a review of this book without giving too much away. This is one I those books you need to read for yourself...and you should read it!

The story is about Luba. She is very likeable and she is one of those heroines who can stand on her own. We watch her grow in all aspects of her life through this book. We watch as she moves from Russia to America. There is heat in this book, but it's not in your face heat.

I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be checking out more in the series. I want to check up on some of the other characters. I recommend this to all my fellow bloggers and GR friends if you are into Erotic Romance.

SUMMARY (55 words or less)
This book starts off very interesting. It had been a while, so at first I wasn’t quite sure who Luba was. I remembered she was a dancer but I’d forgotten the Viggo part of the story. Anyway, I was hooked for the first third or so. This author know how to reel you in.

Unfortunately I couldn't finish it. I got it out from the library and I now see there are previous books in the series that perhaps I should have read first...
However I found I couldn't connect very well to the central character Luba, the story felt a bit aloof and I almost felt I was watching all the action happening from a distance. The story (as far as I got) was a bit slow, and really didn't pick me up and carry me along with it. I prefer more action and a faster pace to my novels.
The quality of the writing was excellent, and it read very smoothly and lyrically, but for me just too slow, and there wasn't enough interaction between the characters. It just wasn't to my taste unfortunately.
